Obadiah 1

Darby Bible

1The visionH2377 of ObadiahH5662. ThusH3541 saith the Lord Jehovah concerning EdomH123: We have heardH8085 a reportH8052 from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sentH7971 among the nationsH1471. AriseH6965 ye, and let us riseH6965 up against her in battleH4421. 2Behold, I have madeH5414 thee smallH6996 among the nationsH1471; thou art greatly despisedH959. 3The prideH2087 of thy heartH3820 hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the cleftsH2288 of the rockH5553, whose habitation is highH4791; — he that saith in his heartH3820, Who shall bringH3381 me downH3381 to the groundH776? 4Though thou exalt thyself as the eagleH5404, and though thou setH7760 thy nestH7064 among the starsH3556, thence will I bringH3381 thee downH3381, saith Jehovah. 5If thievesH1590 had comeH935 to thee, if robbers by nightH3915, (howH349 art thou cut off!) would they not have stolenH1589 [till] they had had enough? If grape-gatherers had comeH935 to thee, would they not have leftH7604 some gleaningsH5955? 6HowH349 is EsauH6215 searchedH2664! his hidden things sought out! 7All the menH376 of thy confederacy have pushed thee to the borderH1366; the menH376 that were at peaceH7965 with thee have deceived thee, they have prevailedH3201 against thee; [they that eat] thy breadH3899 have laid a snare under thee. There is no understandingH8394 in him. 8Shall I not in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah, destroyH6 the wiseH2450 men out of EdomH123, and understandingH8394 out of the mount of EsauH6215? 9And thy mightyH1368 menH376, O TemanH8487, shall be dismayedH2865, to the end that every oneH376 may be cutH3772 off from the mount of EsauH6215 by slaughter. 10Because of violenceH2555 against thy brotherH251 JacobH3290, shameH955 shall coverH3680 thee, and thou shalt be cutH3772 off for everH5769. 11In the dayH3117 that thou stoodest on the other side, in the dayH3117 that strangersH2114 carried away captiveH7617 his substance, and foreigners entered into his gatesH8179, and castH3032 lotsH1486 upon JerusalemH3389, even thou wast as oneH259 of them. 12But thou shouldest not have lookedH7200 on the dayH3117 of thy brotherH251 in the dayH3117 of his disaster; neither shouldest thou have rejoicedH8055 over the children of JudahH3063 in the dayH3117 of their destruction; nor have opened wide thy mouthH6310 in the dayH3117 of distressH6869. 13Thou shouldest not have entered into the gateH8179 of my peopleH5971 in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343, nor have lookedH7200, even thou, on their affliction in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343, neither shouldest thou have laid [hands] on their substance in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343; 14and thou shouldest not have stoodH5975 on the crossway, to cutH3772 off those of his that did escapeH6412, nor have deliveredH5462 up those remaining of him in the dayH3117 of distressH6869. 15For the dayH3117 of Jehovah is near upon all the nationsH1471: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy recompence shall returnH7725 upon thine own headH7218. 16For as ye have drunkH8354 upon my holyH6944 mountainH2022, so shall all the nationsH1471 drinkH8354 continuallyH8548; yea, they shall drinkH8354, and shall swallow down, and they shall beH1961 as though they had not beenH1961. 17But upon mount ZionH6726 shall there beH1961 deliveranceH6413, and it shall beH1961 holyH6944; and the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 shall possessH3423 their possessions. 18And the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 shall beH1961 a fireH784, and the houseH1004 of JosephH3130 a flameH3852, and the houseH1004 of EsauH6215 for stubbleH7179; and they shall kindle in them and devourH398 them; and there shall not beH1961 any remaining of the houseH1004 of EsauH6215: for Jehovah hath spokenH1696 [it]. 19And [they of] the southH5045 shall possessH3423 the mount of EsauH6215; and they of the lowland the PhilistinesH6430; yea, they shall possessH3423 the fieldH7704 of EphraimH669 and the fieldH7704 of SamariaH8111; and BenjaminH1144 [shall possessH3423] GileadH1568; 20and the captives of this host of the children of IsraelH3478 [shall possessH3423] what belonged to the CanaanitesH3669, unto ZarephathH6886; and the captives of JerusalemH3389, who [were] in Sepharad, shall possessH3423 the citiesH5892 of the southH5045. 21And saviours shall come up on mount ZionH6726, to judgeH8199 the mount of EsauH6215; and the kingdom shall beH1961 Jehovah's.
