Matthew 6
Darby Bible
1TakeG4337 heed not to do your alms before menG444 to be seenG2300 of them, otherwise ye have no rewardG3408 with your FatherG3962 who is in the heavensG3772. 2WhenG3752 thereforeG3767 thou doest almsG1654, soundG4537 not a trumpetG4537 before thee, as the hypocritesG5273 do in the synagoguesG4864 and in the streetsG4505, so that they may have glory from menG444. Verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have their rewardG3408. 3But thou, when thou doest almsG1654, let not thy left handG1188 knowG1097 what thy rightG1188 handG1188 does; 4so that thine almsG1654 may beG1510 in secretG2927, and thy FatherG3962 who seesG991 in secretG2927 will renderG591 [it] to thee. 5And whenG3752 thou prayest, thou shalt not beG1510 as the hypocritesG5273; for they loveG5368 to prayG4336 standingG2476 in the synagoguesG4864 and in the cornersG1137 of the streetsG4116 so that they should appearG5316 to menG444. Verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have their rewardG3408. 6But thou, whenG3752 thou prayest, enterG1525 into thy chamber, and having shutG2808 thy doorG2374, prayG4336 to thy FatherG3962 who is in secretG2927, and thy FatherG3962 who seesG991 in secretG2927 will renderG591 [it] to thee. 7But when ye prayG4336, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they thinkG1380 they shall be heard through their much speaking. 8Be not ye thereforeG3767 like them, for your FatherG3962 knows of what thingsG3739 ye have needG5532 before ye beg [anything] of him. 9Thus thereforeG3767 prayG4336 ye: Our FatherG3962 who art in the heavensG3772, let thy nameG3686 be sanctifiedG37, 10let thy kingdomG932 comeG2064, let thy will be done as in heavenG3772 so upon the earthG1093; 11giveG1325 us to-day our needed breadG740, 12and forgiveG863 us our debts, as we alsoG2532 forgiveG863 our debtorsG3781, 13and leadG1533 us not into temptationG3986, but save us from evilG4190. 14For if ye forgiveG863 menG444 their offences, your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 alsoG2532 will forgiveG863 you [yours], 15but if ye do not forgiveG863 menG444 their offences, neither will your FatherG3962 forgiveG863 your offences. 16And whenG3752 ye fastG3522, be not as the hypocritesG5273, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their facesG4383, so that they may appearG5316 fastingG3522 to menG444: verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have their rewardG3408. 17But thou, [when] fastingG3522, anointG218 thy headG2776 and washG3538 thy faceG4383, 18so that thou mayest not appearG5316 fastingG3522 unto menG444, but to thy FatherG3962 who is in secretG2927; and thy FatherG3962 who seesG991 in secretG2927 shall renderG591 [it] to thee. 19Lay not up for yourselvesG4771 treasuresG2344 upon the earthG1093, whereG3699 mothG4597 and rustG1035 spoils, and whereG3699 thievesG2812 dig through and stealG2813; 20but lay up for yourselvesG4771 treasuresG2344 in heavenG3772, whereG3699 neither mothG4597 nor rustG1035 spoils, and whereG3699 thievesG2812 do not dig through nor stealG2813; 21for whereG3699 thy treasureG2344 isG1510, there will beG1510 alsoG2532 thy heartG2588. 22The lampG3088 of the bodyG4983 isG1510 the eyeG3788; if thereforeG3767 thine eyeG3788 beG1510 single, thy wholeG3650 bodyG4983 will beG1510 lightG5460: 23but if thine eyeG3788 beG1510 wickedG4190, thy wholeG3650 bodyG4983 will beG1510 darkG4652. If thereforeG3767 the lightG5457 that isG1510 in thee beG1510 darknessG4655, howG4214 great the darknessG4655! 24No oneG1520 can serveG1398 twoG1417 mastersG2962; for either he will hateG3404 the oneG1520 and will loveG25 the otherG2087, or he will hold to the oneG1520 and despiseG2706 the otherG2087. Ye cannot serveG1398 1GodG2316 and mammon. 25For this cause I sayG3004 unto you, Do not beG1510 careful about your lifeG5590, what ye should eatG2068 and what ye should drink; nor for your bodyG4983 what ye should putG1746 on. IsG1510 not the lifeG5590 moreG4183 than foodG5160, and the bodyG4983 than raiment? 26LookG1689 at the birdsG4071 of the heavenG3772, that they sowG4687 not, nor reapG2325, nor gatherG4863 into granaries, and your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 nourishes them. Are ye not much moreG3123 excellent than they? 27But which of you by carefulness can addG4369 to his growth oneG1520 cubit? 28And whyG5101 are ye careful about clothingG1742? Observe with attention the liliesG2918 of the fieldG68, howG4459 they growG837: they toilG2872 not, neither do they spinG3514; 29but I sayG3004 unto you, that not evenG3761 SolomonG4672 in all his gloryG1391 was clothed as oneG1520 of these. 30But if 2GodG2316 so clothe the herbage of the fieldG68, which isG1510 to-day, and to-morrow isG1510 castG906 into [the] oven, will he not muchG4183 ratherG3123 you, O [ye] of little faith? 31Be not thereforeG3767 careful, sayingG3004, What shall we eatG2068? or What shall we drinkG4095? or What shall we put on? 32for all these thingsG3778 the nationsG1484 seekG1934 after; for your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 knows that ye have needG5535 of all these thingsG3778. 33But seekG2212 ye firstG4413 the kingdomG932 of 3God and his righteousnessG1343, and all these thingsG3778 shall be addedG4369 unto you. 34Be not careful thereforeG3767 for the morrow, for the morrow shall be careful about itself. SufficientG713 to the dayG2250 [is] its ownG1438 evilG2549.
