Joel Chapter 1
Darby Bible
1The wordH1697 of Jehovah that came to JoelH3100 the sonH1121 of Pethuel. 2HearH8085 this, ye oldH2205 menH2205, and giveH238 earH238, all ye inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776. Hath this beenH1961 in your daysH3117, or even in the daysH3117 of your fathersH1? 3Tell your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generationH1755: 4that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locustH697 eatenH398; and that which the locustH697 hath left hath the cankerworm eatenH398; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eatenH398. 5Awake, ye drunkardsH7910, and weepH1058; and howl, all ye drinkersH8354 of wineH3196, because of the new wineH3196: for it is cutH3772 off from your mouthH6310. 6For a nationH1471 is comeH5927 up upon my landH776, strong and without numberH4557: his teethH8127 are the teethH8127 of a lionH738, and he hath the cheek teethH8127 of a lionessH3833. 7He hath madeH7760 my vineH1612 a desolationH8047, and barked my fig-tree; he hath madeH7760 it clean bareH2834, and castH7993 it awayH7993: its branchesH8299 are madeH7760 whiteH3835. 8Wail like a virginH1330 girdedH2296 with sackclothH8242 for the husbandH1167 of her youthH5271. 9The oblation and the drink-offering are cutH3772 off from the houseH1004 of Jehovah; the priestsH3548, Jehovah's ministers, mournH56. 10The fieldH7704 is laid waste, the landH127 mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the newH8492 wineH8492 is driedH3001 up, the oilH3323 languisheth. 11Be ashamedH954, ye husbandmen; howl, ye vinedressersH3755, for the wheatH2406 and for the barleyH8184: because the harvestH7105 of the fieldH7704 hath perishedH6. 12The vineH1612 is driedH3001 up, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palmH8558 alsoH1571 and the apple-tree; all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704 are witheredH3001, yea, joyH8342 is witheredH3001 away from the children of menH120. 13GirdH2296 yourselvesH2296, and lamentH5594, ye priestsH3548; howl, ministers of the altarH4196; comeH935, lie all night in sackclothH8242, ye ministers of my 1GodH430: for the oblation and the drink-offering are withholden from the houseH1004 of your 2GodH430. 14Hallow a fastH6685, proclaimH7121 a solemnH6116 assemblyH6116, gatherH622 the eldersH2205, [and] all the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 to the houseH1004 of Jehovah your 3GodH430, and cryH2199 unto Jehovah. 15AlasH162 for the dayH3117! for the dayH3117 of Jehovah is at hand, and as destructionH7701 from the AlmightyH7706 shall it comeH935. 16Is not the foodH400 cutH3772 off before our eyesH5869, joyH8057 and gladnessH8057 from the houseH1004 of our 4GodH430? 17The seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolateH8074, the barns are brokenH2040 downH2040; for the corn is witheredH3001. 18HowH4100 do the beasts groanH584! The herdsH1241 of cattleH929 are bewildered, for they have no pastureH4829; the flocksH6629 of sheepH6629 alsoH1571 are in suffering. 19To thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fireH784 hath devouredH398 the pastures of the wildernessH4057, and the flameH3852 hath burned up all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704. 20The beasts of the fieldH7704 alsoH1571 cry unto thee; for the water-courses are driedH3001, and the fireH784 hath devouredH398 the pastures of the wildernessH4057.
