Habakkuk Chapter 1
Darby Bible
1The burdenH4853 which HabakkukH2265 the prophetH5030 did seeH2372. 2Jehovah, how long shall I cryH2199 and thou wilt not hearH8085? I cryH2199 out unto thee, ViolenceH2555! and thou dost not saveH3467. 3WhyH4100 dost thou causeH7379 me to seeH7200 iniquity, and lookest thou upon grievance? For spoiling and violenceH2555 are before me; and there is strifeH7379, and contentionH4066 riseth up. 4ThereforeH3651 the lawH8451 is powerless, and justiceH4941 doth never goH3318 forthH3318; for the wickedH7563 encompasseth the righteousH6662; thereforeH3651 judgmentH4941 goeth forthH3318 perverted. 5SeeH7200 ye among the nationsH1471, and behold, and wonder marvellously; for [I] workH6467 a workH6467 in your daysH3117, which ye will not believeH539, though it be declared [to you]. 6For behold, I raiseH6965 up the ChaldeansH3778, that bitterH4751 and impetuous nationH1471, which marcheth through the breadth of the earthH776, to possessH3423 dwelling-places that are not theirs. 7They are terrible and dreadful: their judgmentH4941 and their dignityH7613 proceed from themselves. 8And their horsesH5483 are swifter than the leopardsH5246, and are more agile than the eveningH6153 wolvesH2061; and their horsemenH6571 prance proudly, and their horsemenH6571 comeH935 from afarH7350: they flyH5774 as an eagleH5404 that hasteth to devourH398. 9They comeH935 all of them for violenceH2555: the crowd of their facesH6440 is forwards, and they gatherH622 captivesH7628 as the sandH2344. 10Yea, he scoffeth at kingsH4428, and princes are a scorn unto him; he derideth every stronghold: for he heapeth up dustH6083, and taketh it. 11ThenH227 will his mind changeH2498, and he will passH5674 on, and becomeH816 guiltyH816: this his powerH3581 is becomeH816 his 1godH430. 12— Art thou not from everlasting, Jehovah my 2GodH430, my HolyH6918 OneH6918? We shall not dieH4191. Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgmentH4941; and thou, O RockH6697, hast appointedH7760 him for correction. 13[Thou art] of purer eyesH5869 than to behold evilH7451, and canst not lookH7200 on mischiefH5999: wherefore lookest thou upon them that dealH898 treacherouslyH898, [and] keepest silence when the wickedH7563 swalloweth up a [man] moreH4480 righteousH6662 than he? 14And thou makest menH120 as the fishes of the seaH3220, as the creepingH7431 thingsH7431, that have no rulerH4910 over them. 15He taketh up all of them with the hookH2443, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them into his drag; thereforeH3651 he rejoiceth and is gladH8055: 16thereforeH3651 he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incenseH6999 unto his drag; for by them his portionH2506 is become fatH1277, and his meat dainty. 17Shall he thereforeH3651 empty his net, and not spareH2550 to slayH2026 the nationsH1471 continuallyH8548?
