Psalms 78:49-59
49He 1sent His burning anger upon them, Fury and indignation and trouble, A band of 2destroying angels.50He leveled a path for His anger; He did not spare their souls from death, But 3turned their lives over to the plague,51And 4struck all the firstborn in Egypt, The 5first and best of their vigor in the tents of 6Ham.52But He 7led His own people out like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness 8like a flock;53He led them 9safely, so that they did not fear; But 10the sea engulfed their enemies.
54So 11He brought them to His holy 12land, To this 1314hill country 15which His right hand had gained.55He also 16drove out the nations from them And 17apportioned them as an inheritance by measurement, And had the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.56Yet they 1819tempted and 20rebelled against the Most High God And did not keep His testimonies,57But turned back and 21acted treacherously like their fathers; They 22turned aside like a treacherous bow.58For they 23provoked Him with their 24high places And 25moved Him to jealousy with their 26carved images.59When God heard them, He 27was filled with 28wrath And He utterly 29rejected Israel;
