Context of Psalms 50:4
2Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone. 3May our God come and not keep silent; Fire devours before Him, And a storm is violently raging around Him. He summons the heavens above, And the earth, to judge His people: 5“Gather My godly ones to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” 6And the heavens declare His righteousness, For God Himself is judge. Selah

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4He shall call to the heavens from above - He will call on all the universe; he will summon all worlds. The meaning here is, not that he will gather those who are in heaven to be judged, but that he will call on the inhabitants of all worlds to be his witnesses; to bear their attestation to the justice of his sentence. See Psalm 50:6. The phrase “from above” does not, of course, refer to the heavens as being above God, but to the heavens as they appear to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 4-6The Lord is coming to bring justice. This hope encourages his faithful people. The Lord comes to restore order to the world (see Psalms 5:8; 22:31; 33:5; 40:9; 50:6; 71:16; 97:6).Read the comment
