Mark 6
Teaching at Nazareth
11Jesus wentG1831 out from thereG1564 and cameG2064 into 23His hometownG3968; and His disciplesG3101 followedG190 Him. 2When the SabbathG4521 cameG1096, He beganG757 4to teachG1321 in the synagogueG4864; and the 5manyG4183 listenersG191 were astonishedG1605, sayingG3004, “WhereG4159 did thisG3778 manG3778 get theseG3778 thingsG3778, and whatG5101 is this wisdomG4678 givenG1325 to Him, and suchG5108 6miraclesG1411 as theseG5108 performedG1096 by His handsG5495? 3Is not thisG3778 7the carpenterG5045, 8the sonG5207 of MaryG3137, and brotherG80 of 9JamesG2385 and JosesG2500 and JudasG2455 and SimonG4613? Are not 10His sistersG79 hereG5602 with us?” And they tookG4624 11offenseG4624 at Him. 4JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “12A prophetG4396 is not withoutG820 honorG820 exceptG1508 in 1314his hometownG3968 and amongG1722 his own relativesG4773 and in his own householdG3614.” 5And He couldG1410 doG4160 noG3756G3762 15miracleG1411 thereG1563 exceptG1508 that He 16laidG2007 His handsG5495 on a fewG3641 sickG732 peopleG732 and healedG2323 them. 6And He wonderedG2296 at their unbeliefG570.
17And He was goingG4013 aroundG4013G2945 the villagesG2968 teachingG1321.
The Twelve Sent Out
718And 19He summonedG4341 the twelveG1427 and beganG757 to sendG649 them out 20in pairsG1417, and gaveG1325 them authorityG1849 over the uncleanG169 spiritsG4151; 821and He instructedG3853 them that they should takeG142 nothingG3367 for their journeyG3598, exceptG1508 a mereG3441 staffG4464--noG3361 breadG740, noG3361 22bagG4082, noG3361 moneyG5475 in their beltG2223-- 9but 23to wearG5265 sandalsG4547; and He added, “Do not putG1746 on twoG1417 24tunicsG5509.” 10And He saidG3004 to them, “WhereverG3699G1437 you enterG1525 a houseG3614, stayG3306 thereG1563 untilG2193 you 25leaveG1831 townG1564. 11AnyG3739 placeG5117 that does not receiveG1209 you orG3366 listenG191 to you, as you goG1607 out from thereG1564, 26shakeG1621 the dustG5529 27offG1621 the solesG5270 of your feetG4228 for a testimonyG3142 against them.” 1228They wentG1831 out and 29preachedG2784 that men should repentG3340. 13And they were castingG1544 out manyG4183 demonsG1140 and 30were anointingG218 with oilG1637 manyG4183 sickG732 peopleG732 and healingG2323 them.
John’s Fate Recalled
1431And KingG935 HerodG2264 heardG191 of it, for His nameG3686 had becomeG1096 wellG5318 knownG5318; and people were sayingG3004, “32JohnG2491 the BaptistG907 has risenG1453 from the deadG3498, and that is whyG1223 theseG3588 miraculousG1411 powersG1411 are at workG1754 in Him.” 15But othersG243 were sayingG3004, “He is 33ElijahG2243.” And othersG243 were sayingG3004, “He is 34a prophetG4396, likeG5613 oneG1520 of the prophetsG4396 of old.” 16But when HerodG2264 heardG191 of it, he kept sayingG3004, “JohnG2491, whomG3739 I beheadedG607, has risenG1453!”
17For HerodG2264 himselfG846 had sentG649 and had JohnG2491 arrestedG2902 and boundG1210 in prisonG5438 on accountG1223 of 35HerodiasG2266, the wifeG1135 of his brotherG80 PhilipG5376, becauseG3754 he had marriedG1060 her. 18For JohnG2491 had been sayingG3004 to HerodG2264, “36It is not lawfulG1832 for you to haveG2192 your brother’sG80 wifeG1135.” 1937HerodiasG2266 hadG1758 a grudgeG1758 againstG1758 him and wantedG2309 to putG615 him to deathG615 and couldG1410 not do so; 20for 38HerodG2264 was afraidG5399 of JohnG2491, knowingG3609 that he was a righteousG1342 and holyG40 manG435, and he keptG4933 him safeG4933. And when he heardG191 him, he was veryG4183 perplexedG639; 39but he 40used to enjoyG2234 listeningG191 to him. 21A strategicG2121 dayG2250 cameG1096 whenG3753 HerodG2264 on his birthdayG1077 41gaveG4160 a banquetG1173 for his lordsG3175 and 42militaryG5506 commandersG5506 and the leadingG4413 menG4413 43of GalileeG1056; 22and when the daughterG2364 of 44HerodiasG2266 herselfG846 cameG1525 in and dancedG3738, she pleasedG700 HerodG2264 and 45his dinnerG4873 guestsG4873; and the kingG935 saidG3004 to the girlG2877, “AskG154 me for whateverG3739G1437 you wantG2309 and I will giveG1325 it to you.” 23And he sworeG3660 to her, “WhateverG3739G1437 you askG154 of me, I will giveG1325 it to you; up to 46halfG2255 of my kingdomG932.” 24And she wentG1831 out and saidG3004 to her motherG3384, “WhatG5101 shall I askG154 for?” And she saidG3004, “The headG2776 of JohnG2491 the BaptistG907.” 25ImmediatelyG2117 she cameG1525 in a hurryG4710 to the kingG935 and askedG154, sayingG3004, “I wantG2309 you to giveG1325 me at onceG1824 the headG2776 of JohnG2491 the BaptistG910 on a platterG4094.” 26And although the kingG935 was veryG4036 sorryG4036, yet becauseG1223 of his oathsG3727 and because of 47his dinnerG345 guestsG345, he was unwillingG3756G2309 to refuseG114 her. 27ImmediatelyG2117 the kingG935 sentG649 an executionerG4688 and commandedG2004 him to bringG5342 back his headG2776. And he wentG565 and had him beheadedG607 in the prisonG5438, 28and broughtG5342 his headG2776 on a platterG4094, and gaveG1325 it to the girlG2877; and the girlG2877 gaveG1325 it to her motherG3384. 29When his disciplesG3101 heardG191 about this, they cameG2064 and tookG142 awayG142 his bodyG4430 and laidG5087 it in a tombG3419.
3048The 49apostlesG652 gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 with JesusG2424; and they reportedG518 to Him allG3956 that they had doneG4160 and taughtG1321. 31And He saidG3004 to them, “ComeG1205 awayG1205 by yourselvesG4771G846 to a secludedG2048 placeG5117 and restG373 a whileG3641.” (For there were manyG4183 people comingG2064 and goingG5217, and 50they did not evenG3761 haveG2119 timeG2119 to eatG2068.) 3251They wentG565 awayG565 in 52the boatG4143 to a secludedG2048 placeG5117 by themselvesG2398.
Five Thousand Fed
33The people sawG3708 them goingG5217, and manyG4183 recognizedG1921 them and ranG4936 thereG1563 togetherG4936 on footG3979 from allG3956 the citiesG4172, and gotG4281 thereG4281 aheadG4281 of them. 34When Jesus wentG1831 53ashoreG1831, He 54sawG3708 a largeG4183 crowdG3793, and He feltG4697 compassionG4697 for them becauseG3754 55they were likeG5613 sheepG4263 withoutG3361G2192 a shepherdG4166; and He beganG757 to teachG1321 them manyG4183 thingsG4183. 35When it was alreadyG2235 quiteG4183 lateG5610G4183, His disciplesG3101 cameG4334 to Him and saidG3004, “56ThisG3588 placeG5117 is desolateG2048 and it is alreadyG2235 quiteG4183 lateG5610G4183; 36sendG630 them awayG630 soG2443 that they may goG565 into the surroundingG2945 countrysideG68 and villagesG2968 and buyG59 themselvesG1438 57somethingG5101 to eatG2068.” 37But He answeredG611 them, “You giveG1325 them something to eatG2068!” 58And they saidG3004 to Him, “Shall we goG565 and spendG59 twoG1250 hundredG1250 5960denariiG1220 on breadG740 and giveG1325 them something to eatG2068?” 38And He saidG3004 to them, “HowG4214 manyG4214 loavesG740 do you haveG2192? GoG5217 lookG3708!” And when they foundG1097 out, they saidG3004, “FiveG4002, and twoG1417 fishG2486.” 39And He commandedG2004 them allG3956 to 61sitG347 downG347 by groupsG4849 on the greenG5515 grassG5528. 40They 62satG377 downG377 in groupsG4237 of hundredsG1540 and of fiftiesG4004. 41And He tookG2983 the fiveG4002 loavesG740 and the twoG1417 fishG2486, and lookingG308 up towardG1519 heavenG3772, He 63blessedG2127 the food and brokeG2622 the loavesG740 and He kept givingG1325 them to the disciplesG3101 to setG3908 beforeG3908 them; and He dividedG3307 up the twoG1417 fishG2486 among them allG3956. 42They allG3956 ateG2068 and were satisfiedG5526, 43and they pickedG142 up twelveG1427 fullG4138 64basketsG2894 of the brokenG2801 piecesG2801, and also of the fishG2486. 44There were 65fiveG4000 thousandG4000 menG435 who ateG2068 the loavesG740.
Jesus Walks on the Water
4566ImmediatelyG2117 Jesus madeG315 His disciplesG3101 getG1684 into 67the boatG4143 and goG4254 aheadG4254 of Him to the otherG4008 sideG4008 to 68BethsaidaG966, whileG2193 He HimselfG846 was sendingG630 the crowdG3793 awayG630. 46After 69biddingG657 them farewellG657, He leftG565 70for the mountainG3735 to prayG4336.
47When it was eveningG3798, the boatG4143 was in the middleG3319 of the seaG2281, and He was aloneG3441 on the landG1093. 48SeeingG3708 them 71strainingG928 at the oarsG1643, for the windG417 was againstG1727 them, at aboutG4012 the 7273fourthG5067 watchG5438 of the nightG3571 He cameG2064 to them, walkingG4043 on the seaG2281; and He intendedG2309 to passG3928 by them. 49But when they sawG3708 Him walkingG4043 on the seaG2281, they supposedG1380 that it was a ghostG5326, and criedG349 out; 50for they allG3956 sawG3708 Him and were 74terrifiedG5015. But immediatelyG2117 He spokeG2980 with them and saidG3004 to them, “75TakeG2293 courageG2293; it is I, 76do not be afraidG5399.” 51ThenG2532 He gotG305 into 77the boatG4143 with them, and the windG417 stoppedG2869; and they were utterlyG3029G1537G4053 astonishedG1839, 52for 78they 79had not gainedG4920 any insightG4920 from the incident of the loavesG740, but 80their heartG2588 81was hardenedG4456.
Healing at Gennesaret
5382When they had crossedG1276 overG1276 they cameG2064 to landG1093 at GennesaretG1082, and mooredG4358 to the shore. 54When they gotG1831 out of the boatG4143, immediatelyG2117 the people recognizedG1921 Him, 55and ranG4063 aboutG4063 that wholeG3650 countryG5561 and beganG757 to carryG4064 hereG4063 and thereG4064 on their palletsG2895 thoseG3588 who were sickG2560, to 83the placeG3699 they heardG191 He was. 56WhereverG3699 He enteredG1531 villagesG2968, orG2228 citiesG4172, orG2228 countrysideG68, they were layingG5087 the sickG770 in the marketG58 placesG58, and imploringG3870 Him that they might justG2579 84touchG681 85the fringeG2899 of His cloakG2440; and as manyG3745 as touchedG681 it were being curedG4982.
