Ahaziah’s Messengers Meet Elijah

1Now 1MoabH4124 rebelledH6586 against IsraelH3478 afterH310 the deathH4194 of AhabH256. 2And AhaziahH274 fellH5307 throughH1157 the latticeH7639 in his upperH5944 chamberH5944 whichH834 was in SamariaH8111, and becameH2470 illH2470. So he sentH7971 messengersH4397 and saidH559 to them, “GoH1980, 2inquireH1875 of Baal-zebubH1176, the godH430 of EkronH6138, 3whetherH518 I will recoverH2421 from thisH2088 sicknessH2483.” 3But the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 saidH1696 to 4ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664, “AriseH6965, goH5927 up to meetH7122 the messengersH4397 of the kingH4428 of SamariaH8111 and sayH1696 to them, ‘Is it becauseH4480H1097 thereH369 is noH369 GodH430 in IsraelH3478 that you are goingH1980 to inquireH1875 of 5Baal-zebubH1176, the godH430 of EkronH6138?’ 4Now thereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘67You shall not comeH3381 downH3381 from the bedH4296 whereH834H8033 you have goneH5927 up, but you shall surelyH4191 dieH4191.’” Then ElijahH452 departedH1980.

5When the messengersH4397 returnedH7725 to him he saidH559 to them, “8WhyH4100 have you returnedH7725?” 6They saidH559 to him, “A manH376 cameH5927 up to meetH7122 us and saidH559 to us, ‘GoH1980, returnH7725 to the kingH4428 whoH834 sentH7971 you and sayH1696 to him, “ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘Is it becauseH4480H1097 thereH369 is noH369 GodH430 in IsraelH3478 that you are sendingH7971 9to inquireH1875 of Baal-zebubH1176, the godH430 of EkronH6138? ThereforeH3651 10you shall not comeH3381 downH3381 from the bedH4296 whereH834H8033 you have goneH5927 up, but shall surelyH4191 dieH4191.’”’” 7He saidH1696 to them, “WhatH4100 kindH4941 of manH376 was he whoH834 cameH5927 up to meetH7122 you and spokeH1696 theseH428 wordsH1697 to you?” 8They 11answeredH559 him, “12He was a hairyH8181 manH376 with a leatherH5785 girdleH232 13boundH247 about his loinsH4975.” And he saidH559, “It is ElijahH452 the TishbiteH8664.”

9Then the king 14sentH7971 to him a captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he wentH5927 up to him, and beholdH2009, he was sittingH3427 on the topH7218 of the hillH2022. And he saidH1696 to him, “O manH376 of GodH430, the kingH4428 saysH1696, ‘ComeH3381 downH3381.’” 10ElijahH452 repliedH6030 to the captainH8269 of fiftyH2572, “IfH518 I am a manH376 of GodH430, 15let fireH784 comeH3381 downH3381 from heavenH8064 and consumeH398 you and your fiftyH2572.” 16Then fireH784 cameH3381 downH3381 from heavenH8064 and consumedH398 him and his fiftyH2572.

11So he againH7725 sentH7971 to him anotherH312 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he saidH1696 to him, “O manH376 of GodH430, thusH3541 saysH559 the kingH4428, ‘ComeH3381 downH3381 quicklyH4120.’” 12ElijahH452 repliedH6030 to them, “IfH518 I am a manH376 of GodH430, let fireH784 comeH3381 downH3381 from heavenH8064 and consumeH398 you and your fiftyH2572.” Then the fireH784 of GodH430 cameH3381 downH3381 from heavenH8064 and consumedH398 him and his fiftyH2572.

13So he 17againH7725 sentH7971 the captainH8269 of a thirdH7992 fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. When the thirdH7992 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 wentH5927 up, he cameH935 and bowedH3766 downH3766 on his kneesH1290 beforeH5048 ElijahH452, and beggedH2603 him and saidH1696 to him, “O manH376 of GodH430, pleaseH4994 let my lifeH5315 and the livesH5315 of theseH428 fiftyH2572 servantsH5650 of yours be preciousH3365 in your sightH5869. 14BeholdH2009 fireH784 cameH3381 downH3381 from heavenH8064 and consumedH398 the firstH7223 twoH8147 captainsH8269 of fiftyH2572 with their fiftiesH2572; but nowH6258 let my 18lifeH5315 be preciousH3365 in your sightH5869.” 1519The angelH4397 of the LordH3068 saidH1696 to ElijahH452, “GoH3381 downH3381 with him; 20do not be afraidH3372 of him.” So he aroseH6965 and wentH3381 downH3381 with him to the kingH4428. 16Then he saidH1696 to him, “ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘BecauseH3282H834 you have sentH7971 messengersH4397 21to inquireH1875 of Baal-zebubH1176, the godH430 of EkronH6138--is it becauseH4480H1097 thereH369 is noH369 GodH430 in IsraelH3478 to inquireH1875 of His wordH1697?--thereforeH3651 22you shall not comeH3381 downH3381 from the bedH4296 whereH834H8033 you have goneH5927 up, but shall surelyH4191 dieH4191.’”

Jehoram Reigns over Israel

17So Ahaziah diedH4191 according to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 whichH834 ElijahH452 had spokenH1696. And becauseH3588 he hadH1961 noH3808 sonH1121, JehoramH3088 becameH4427 kingH4427 in his placeH8478 23in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092, kingH4428 of JudahH3063. 18Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AhaziahH274 whichH834 he didH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
