Mark 4

Parable of the Sower and Soils

11He beganG757 to teachG1321 againG3825 2by the seaG2281. And such a veryG4183 largeG4183 crowdG3793 gatheredG4863 to Him that 3He gotG1684 into a boatG4143 in the seaG2281 and satG2521 downG2521; and the wholeG3956 crowdG3793 was by the seaG2281 on the landG1093. 2And He was teachingG1321 them manyG4183 thingsG4183 in 4parablesG3850, and was sayingG3004 to them in His teachingG1322, 3“ListenG191 to this! BeholdG2400, the sowerG4687 wentG1831 out to sowG4687; 4as he was sowingG4687, someG3739G3303 seed fellG4098 besideG3844 the roadG3598, and the birdsG4071 cameG2064 and ateG2719 it up. 5OtherG243 seed fellG4098 on the rockyG4075 ground whereG3699 it did not haveG2192 muchG4183 soilG1093; and immediatelyG2117 it sprangG1816 up becauseG1223 it hadG2192 noG3361 depthG899 of soilG1093. 6And afterG3753 the sunG2246 had risenG393, it was scorchedG2739; and becauseG1223 it hadG2192 noG3361 rootG4491, it witheredG3583 awayG3583. 7OtherG243 seed fellG4098 amongG1519 the thornsG173, and the thornsG173 cameG305 up and chokedG4846 it, and it yieldedG1325 noG3756 cropG2590. 8OtherG243 seeds fellG4098 into the goodG2570 soilG1093, and as they grewG305 up and increasedG837, they yieldedG1325 a cropG2590 and producedG5342 thirtyG5144, sixtyG1835, and a hundredfoldG1540.” 9And He was sayingG3004, “5He whoG3739 hasG2192 earsG3775 to hearG191, 6let him hearG191.”

10As soonG3753 as He was aloneG3441, 7His followersG3588G4012, alongG4862 with the twelveG1427, began askingG2065 Him about the parablesG3850. 11And He was sayingG3004 to them, “To you has been givenG1325 the mysteryG3466 of the kingdomG932 of GodG2316, but 8thoseG1565 who are outsideG1854 getG1096 everythingG3956 9in parablesG3850, 12soG2443 that 10while seeingG991, they may seeG991 and not perceiveG3708, and while hearingG191, they may hearG191 and not understandG4920, otherwiseG3379 they might returnG1994 and be forgivenG863.”

Explanation

1311And He saidG3004 to them, “Do you not understandG3609 thisG3778 parableG3850? HowG4459 will you understandG1097 allG3956 the parablesG3850? 14The sowerG4687 sowsG4687 the wordG3056. 15TheseG3778 are the ones whoG3588 are besideG3844 the roadG3598 whereG3699 the wordG3056 is sownG4687; and whenG3752 they hearG191, immediatelyG2117 12SatanG4567 comesG2064 and takesG142 awayG142 the wordG3056 which has been sownG4687 in them. 16In a similarG3668 wayG3668 theseG3778 are the ones on whom seed was sownG4687 on the rockyG4075 places, whoG3739, whenG3752 they hearG191 the wordG3056, immediatelyG2117 receiveG2983 it with joyG5479; 17and they haveG2192 noG3756 firm rootG4491 in themselvesG1438, but are only temporaryG4340; thenG1534, when afflictionG2347 orG2228 persecutionG1375 arisesG1096 becauseG1223 of the wordG3056, immediatelyG2117 they 13fallG4624 awayG4624. 18And othersG243 are the ones on whom seed was sownG4687 amongG1519 the thornsG173; theseG3778 are the ones who have heardG191 the wordG3056, 19but the worriesG3308 of 14the 15worldG165, and the 16deceitfulnessG539 of richesG4149, and the desiresG1939 for otherG3062 thingsG3062 enterG1531 in and chokeG4846 the wordG3056, and it becomesG1096 unfruitfulG175. 20And thoseG1565 are the ones on whom seed was sownG4687 on the goodG2570 soilG1093; and they hearG191 the wordG3056 and acceptG3858 it and 17bearG2592 fruitG2592, thirtyG5144, sixtyG1835, and a hundredfoldG1540.”

21And He was sayingG3004 to them, “18A lampG3088 is not broughtG2064 to be putG5087 underG5259 a 19basketG3426, is it, orG2228 underG5259 a bedG2825? Is it not brought to be putG5087 on the lampstandG3087? 2220For nothingG3756G5100 is hiddenG2927, exceptG1437G3361 to be revealedG5319; norG3761 has anything beenG1096 secretG614, but that it would comeG2064 to lightG5318. 2321IfG1487 anyoneG5100 hasG2192 earsG3775 to hearG191, let him hearG191.” 24And He was sayingG3004 to them, “TakeG991 careG991 whatG5101 you listenG191 to. 2223By your standardG3358 of measureG3354 it will be measuredG3354 to you; and moreG4369 will be givenG4369 you besidesG4369. 2524For whoeverG3739 hasG2192, to him more shall be givenG1325; and whoeverG3739 does not haveG2192, evenG2532 whatG3739 he hasG2192 shall be takenG142 awayG142 from him.”

Parable of the Seed

26And He was sayingG3004, “The kingdomG932 of GodG2316 is likeG3779G5613 a manG444 who castsG906 seedG4703 upon the soilG1093; 27and he goesG2518 to bedG2518 at nightG3571 and getsG1453 up by dayG2250, and the seedG4703 sproutsG985 and growsG3373--howG5613, he himselfG846 does not knowG3609. 28The soilG1093 producesG2592 cropsG2592 by itselfG844; firstG4413 the bladeG5528, thenG1535 the headG4719, thenG1535 the matureG4134 grainG4621 in the headG4719. 29But whenG3752 the cropG2590 permitsG3860, he immediatelyG2117 2526putsG649 in the sickleG1407, becauseG3754 the harvestG2326 has comeG3936.”

Parable of the Mustard Seed

3027And He saidG3004, “HowG4459 shall we 2829pictureG3666 the kingdomG932 of GodG2316, orG2228 by whatG5101 parableG3850 shall we presentG5087 it? 31It is likeG5613 a mustardG4615 seedG2848, whichG3739, whenG3752 sownG4687 upon the soilG1093, though it is smallerG3398 than allG3956 the seedsG4690 that are upon the soilG1093, 32yetG2532 whenG3752 it is sownG4687, it growsG305 up and becomesG1096 largerG3173 than allG3956 the gardenG3001 plantsG3001 and formsG4160 largeG3173 branchesG2798; soG5620 that 30the birdsG4071 of the 31airG3772 canG1410 nestG2681 underG5259 its shadeG4639.”

33With manyG4183 suchG5108 parablesG3850 He was speakingG2980 the wordG3056 to them, soG2531 far as they were ableG1410 to hearG191 it; 34and He did not speakG2980 to them 32withoutG5565 a parableG3850; but He was 33explainingG1956 everythingG3956 privatelyG2596G2398 to His ownG2398 disciplesG3101.

Jesus Stills the Sea

3534On that dayG2250, when eveningG3798 cameG1096, He saidG3004 to them, “Let us goG1330 overG1330 to the otherG4008 sideG4008.” 3635LeavingG863 the crowdG3793, they tookG3880 Him alongG3880 with them 36in the boatG4143, justG5613 as He was; and otherG243 boatsG4143 were with Him. 37And there aroseG1096 a fierceG3173 galeG2978 of windG417, and the wavesG2949 were breakingG1911 overG1911 the boatG4143 soG5620 much that the boatG4143 was alreadyG2235 fillingG1072 up. 38Jesus HimselfG846 was in the sternG4403, asleepG2518 on the cushionG4344; and they wokeG1453 Him and saidG3004 to Him, “TeacherG1320, do You not careG3199 that we are perishingG622?” 39And He gotG1326 up and 37rebukedG2008 the windG417 and saidG3004 to the seaG2281, “HushG4623, be stillG5392.” And the windG417 diedG2869 downG2869 and 38it becameG1096 perfectlyG3173 calmG1055. 40And He saidG3004 to them, “WhyG5101 are you 39afraidG1169? 40Do you stillG3768 haveG2192 noG3768 faithG4102?” 41They became veryG3173 muchG3173 afraidG5399 and saidG3004 to oneG240 anotherG240, “WhoG5101 thenG686 is thisG3778, that evenG2532 the windG417 and the seaG2281 obeyG5219 Him?”
