The Gospel Exalted
1PaulG3972, a bond-servantG1401 of ChristG5547 JesusG2424, 12calledG2822 as an apostleG652, 3setG873 apartG873 for 4the gospelG2098 of GodG2316, 2whichG3739 He 5promisedG4279 beforehandG4279 throughG1223 His 6prophetsG4396 in the holyG40 ScripturesG1124, 3concerningG4012 His SonG5207, who was bornG1096 7of a 8descendantG4690 of DavidG1160 9accordingG2596 to the fleshG4561, 4who was declaredG3724 10the SonG5207 of GodG2316 with powerG1411 11by the resurrectionG386 from the deadG3498, accordingG2596 to the 12SpiritG4151 of holinessG42, JesusG2424 ChristG5547 our LordG2962, 5throughG1223 whomG3739 we have receivedG2983 graceG5485 and 13apostleshipG651 14to bringG1519 aboutG1519 the 15obedienceG5218 of faithG4102 amongG1722 16allG3956 the GentilesG1484 for His name’sG3686 sakeG5228, 6amongG1722 whomG3739 you alsoG2532 are the 17calledG2822 of JesusG2424 ChristG5547;
7to allG3956 who are 18belovedG27 of GodG2316 in RomeG4516, calledG2822 as 1920saintsG40: 21GraceG5485 to you and peaceG1515 from GodG2316 our FatherG3962 and the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547.
8FirstG4413, 22I thankG2168 my GodG2316 throughG1223 JesusG2424 ChristG5547 23for you allG3956, becauseG3754 24your faithG4102 is being proclaimedG2605 throughoutG1722 the wholeG3650 worldG2889. 9For 25GodG2316, whomG3739 I 26serveG3000 in my spiritG4151 in the preaching of the gospelG2098 of His SonG5207, is my witnessG3144 as to howG5613 unceasinglyG89 27I makeG4160 mentionG3417 of you, 10alwaysG3842 in my prayersG4335 makingG1189 requestG1189, ifG1487 perhapsG4458 nowG2235 at lastG4218 by 28the willG2307 of GodG2316 I may succeedG2137 in comingG2064 to you. 11For 29I longG1971 to seeG3708 you soG2443 that I may impartG3330 someG5100 spiritualG4152 giftG5486 to you, that you may be 30establishedG4741; 12that is, that I may be encouragedG4837 togetherG4837 with you while amongG1722 you, eachG240 of us by the other’sG240 faithG4102, bothG5037 yoursG4771 and mineG1473. 1331I do not wantG2309 you to be unawareG50, 32brethrenG80, that oftenG4178 I 33have plannedG4388 to comeG2064 to you (and have been preventedG2967 soG2443 farG891) soG2443 that I may obtainG2192 someG5100 34fruitG2590 amongG1722 you alsoG2532, evenG2531 as amongG1722 the restG3062 of the GentilesG1484. 1435I amG1510 36underG3781 obligationG3781 bothG5037 to GreeksG1672 and to 37barbariansG915, bothG5037 to the wiseG4680 and to the foolishG453. 15SoG3779, for my partG1473, I am eagerG4289 to 38preachG2097 the gospelG2097 to you alsoG2532 whoG3588 are in RomeG4516.
16For I amG1870 not 39ashamedG1870 of the gospelG2098, for 40it is the powerG1411 of GodG2316 for salvationG4991 to everyoneG3956 who believesG4100, to the 41JewG2453 firstG4413 and alsoG5037 to 42the GreekG1672. 17For in it 43the righteousnessG1343 of GodG2316 is revealedG601 44from faithG4102 to faithG4102; as it is writtenG1125, “4546But the righteousG1342 man shall liveG2198 by faithG4102.”
Unbelief and Its Consequences
18For 47the wrathG3709 of GodG2316 is revealedG601 from heavenG3772 againstG1909 allG3956 ungodlinessG763 and unrighteousnessG93 of menG444 who 48suppressG2722 the truthG225 49in unrighteousnessG93, 19becauseG1360 50that whichG1110 is knownG1110 about GodG2316 is evidentG5318 51withinG1722 them; for GodG2316 madeG5319 it evidentG5319 to them. 20For 52sinceG575 the creationG2937 of the worldG2889 His invisibleG517 attributes, His eternalG126 powerG1411 and divineG2305 natureG2305, have been clearlyG2529 seenG2529, 53being understoodG3539 through whatG4161 hasG4161 beenG4161 madeG4161, soG1519 that they are withoutG379 excuseG379. 21For even though they knewG1097 GodG2316, they did not 54honorG1392 Him as GodG2316 orG2228 giveG2168 thanksG2168, but they becameG3154 55futileG3154 in their speculationsG1261, and their foolishG801 heartG2588 was darkenedG4654. 2256ProfessingG5335 to be wiseG4680, they becameG3471 foolsG3471, 23and 57exchangedG236 the gloryG1391 of the incorruptibleG862 GodG2316 for an imageG1504 in the formG3667 of corruptibleG5349 manG444 and of birdsG4071 and four-footedG5074 animalsG5074 and 58crawlingG2062 creaturesG2062.
24ThereforeG1352 59GodG2316 gaveG3860 them overG3860 in the lustsG1939 of their heartsG2588 to impurityG167, soG1519 that their bodiesG4983 would be 60dishonoredG818 amongG1722 them. 25For they exchangedG3337 the truthG225 of GodG2316 for 61a 62lieG5579, and worshipedG4573 and servedG3000 the creatureG2937 ratherG3844 thanG3844 the CreatorG2936, 63whoG3739 is blessedG2128 64foreverG165. AmenG281.
26For thisG3778 reasonG1223 65GodG2316 gaveG3860 them overG3860 to 66degradingG819 passionsG3806; for their womenG2338 exchangedG3337 the naturalG5446 functionG5540 for that which is 67unnaturalG3844G5449, 27and in the sameG3668 wayG3668 alsoG2532 the menG733 abandonedG863 the naturalG5446 functionG5540 of the womanG2338 and burnedG1572 in their desireG3715 towardG1519 oneG240 anotherG240, 68menG733 with menG733 committingG2716 69indecentG808 actsG808 and receivingG618 in 70their ownG1438 personsG1438 the dueG1163 penaltyG489 of their errorG4106.
28And justG2531 as they did not seeG1381 fitG1381 71to acknowledgeG2192G1922 GodG2316 any longer, 72GodG2316 gaveG3860 them overG3860 to a depravedG96 mindG3563, to doG4160 thoseG3588 things which are not properG2520, 29being filledG4137 with allG3956 unrighteousnessG93, wickednessG4189, greedG4124, evilG2549; fullG3324 of envyG5355, murderG5408, strifeG2054, deceitG1388, maliceG2550; they are 73gossipsG5588, 30slanderersG2637, 7475hatersG2319 of GodG2319, insolentG5197, arrogantG5244, boastfulG213, inventorsG2182 of evilG2556, 76disobedientG545 to parentsG1118, 31withoutG801 understandingG801, untrustworthyG802, 77unlovingG794, unmercifulG415; 32and although they knowG1921 the ordinanceG1345 of GodG2316, that thoseG3588 who practiceG4238 suchG5108 thingsG5108 are worthyG514 of 78deathG2288, they not onlyG3440 doG4160 the sameG846, but alsoG2532 79giveG4909 heartyG4909 approvalG4909 to thoseG3588 who practiceG4238 them.
