Haggai Begins Temple Building

1In the 1secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the kingH4428, on the firstH259 dayH3117 of the sixthH8345 monthH2320, the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 by the prophetH5030 2HaggaiH2292 to 3ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, 4governorH6346 of JudahH3063, and to 5JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, sayingH559, 2“ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of 6hostsH6635, ‘ThisH2088 peopleH5971 saysH559, “The timeH6256 has not comeH935, even the timeH6256 for the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 to be rebuiltH1129.”’” 3Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 by HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 4“Is it timeH6256 for you yourselvesH864 to dwellH3427 in your paneledH5603 housesH1004 while thisH2088 houseH1004 7lies desolateH2720?” 5NowH6258 therefore, thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “8ConsiderH7760H3824H5921 your waysH1870! 6You have 9sownH2232 muchH7235, but 10harvestH935 littleH4592; you eatH398, but there is not enough to be satisfiedH7654; you drinkH8354, but there is 11not enough to becomeH7937 drunkH7937; you putH3847 on clothingH3847, but noH369 oneH369 is warmH2552 enough; and he who earnsH7936, earnsH7936 wagesH7939 to put into a purseH6872 with holesH5344.”

7ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “12ConsiderH7760H3824H5921 your waysH1870! 8GoH5927 up to the 13mountainsH2022, bringH935 woodH6086 and 14rebuildH1129 the 15templeH1004, that I may be 16pleasedH7521 with it and be 17glorifiedH3513,” saysH559 the LordH3068. 9“18You lookH6437 for muchH7235, but beholdH2009, it comes to littleH4592; when you bringH935 it homeH1004, I 19blowH5301 it away. WhyH3282H4100?” declaresH5002 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “BecauseH3282 of My houseH1004 whichH834 20lies desolateH2720, while eachH376 of you runsH7323 to his own houseH1004. 10ThereforeH5921H3651, becauseH5921 of you the 21skyH8064 has withheldH3607 22its dewH2919 and the earthH776 has withheldH3607 its produceH2981. 11I calledH7121 for a 23droughtH2721 on the landH776, on the mountainsH2022, on the grainH1715, on the newH8492 wineH8492, on the oilH3323, on whatH834 the groundH127 producesH3318, on 24menH120, on cattleH929, and on 25allH3605 the laborH3018 of 26your handsH3709.”

12Then 27ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH8032, and 28JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, with allH3605 the remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971, 29obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 their GodH430 and the wordsH1697 of HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, as the LordH3068 their GodH430 had sentH7971 him. And the peopleH5971 3031showedH3372 reverenceH3372 for the LordH3068. 13Then HaggaiH2292, the 32messengerH4397 of the LordH3068, spokeH559 33by the commissionH4400 of the LordH3068 to the peopleH5971 sayingH559, “‘34I am with you,’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068.” 14So the LordH3068 stirredH5782 up the spiritH7307 of 35ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH8032, 36governorH6346 of JudahH3063, and the spiritH7307 of JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, and the spiritH7307 of allH3605 the 37remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971; and they cameH935 and 38workedH6213 on the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, their GodH430, 15on the twenty-fourthH6242H702 dayH3117 of the sixthH8345 monthH2320 in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the kingH4428.
