Mark 8
Four Thousand Fed
1In thoseG1565 daysG2250, when there was againG3825 a largeG4183 crowdG3793 and they hadG2192 nothingG3361G5100 to eatG2068, 1Jesus calledG4341 His disciplesG3101 and saidG3004 to them, 2“2I feelG4697 compassionG4697 for the 3peopleG3793 becauseG3754 they have remainedG4357 with Me nowG2235 threeG5140 daysG2250 and haveG2192 nothingG3756G5100 to eatG2068. 3IfG1437 I sendG630 them awayG630 hungryG3523 to their homesG3624, they will faintG1590 on the wayG3598; and someG5100 of them haveG1510 comeG1510 from a greatG3113 distanceG3113.” 4And His disciplesG3101 answeredG611 Him, “WhereG4159 will anyoneG5100 be ableG1410 to find enough 4breadG740 hereG5602 in this desolateG2047 placeG2047 to satisfyG5526 theseG3778 peopleG3778?” 5And He was askingG2065 them, “HowG4214 manyG4214 loavesG740 do you haveG2192?” And they saidG3004, “SevenG2033.” 6And He directedG3853 the 5peopleG3793 to 6sitG377 downG377 on the groundG1093; and takingG2983 the sevenG2033 loavesG740, He gaveG2168 thanksG2168 and brokeG2806 them, and started givingG1325 them to His disciplesG3101 to 7serveG3908 to them, and they servedG3908 them to the 8peopleG3793. 7They alsoG2532 hadG2192 a fewG3641 smallG2485 fishG2485; and 9after He had blessedG2127 them, He orderedG3004 theseG3778 to be 10servedG3908 as wellG2532. 8And they ateG2068 and were satisfiedG5526; and they pickedG142 up sevenG2033 largeG4711 11basketsG4711 fullG4051 of whatG4051 was leftG4051 overG4051 of the brokenG2801 piecesG2801. 9AboutG5613 fourG5070 thousandG5070 were there; and He sentG630 them awayG630. 10And immediatelyG2117 He enteredG1684 the boatG4143 with His disciplesG3101 and cameG2064 to the districtG3313 of 12DalmanuthaG1148.
1113The PhariseesG5330 cameG1831 out and beganG757 to argueG4802 with Him, 14seekingG2212 from Him a 15signG4592 from heavenG3772, 16to testG3985 Him. 1217SighingG389 deeplyG389 18in His spiritG4151, He saidG3004, “WhyG5101 does thisG3778 generationG1074 seekG2212 for a 19signG4592? TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you, 2021noG1487 22signG4592 will be givenG1325 to thisG3778 generationG1074.” 13LeavingG863 them, He againG3825 embarkedG1684 and wentG565 awayG565 to the otherG4008 sideG4008.
14And they had forgottenG1950 to takeG2983 breadG740, and did not haveG2192 moreG1508 thanG1508 oneG1520 loafG740 in the boatG4143 with them. 15And He was givingG1291 ordersG1291 to them, sayingG3004, “23WatchG3708 out! BewareG991 of the leavenG2219 of the PhariseesG5330 and the leavenG2219 of 24HerodG2264.” 16They began to discussG1260 with oneG240 anotherG240 the fact that they hadG2192 noG3756 breadG740. 17And JesusG2424, awareG1097 of this, saidG3004 to them, “WhyG5101 do you discussG1260 the fact that you haveG2192 noG3756 breadG740? 25Do you not yetG3768 seeG3539 orG3761 understandG4920? Do you haveG2192 a 26hardenedG4456 heartG2588? 1827HavingG2192 eyesG3788, do you not seeG991? And havingG2192 earsG3775, do you not hearG191? And do you not rememberG3421, 19whenG3753 I brokeG2806 28the fiveG4000 loavesG740 for the fiveG4000 thousandG4000, howG4214 manyG4214 29basketsG2894 fullG4134 of brokenG2801 piecesG2801 you pickedG142 up?” They saidG3004 to Him, “TwelveG1427.” 20“WhenG3753 I broke 30the sevenG2033 for the fourG5070 thousandG5070, howG4214 manyG4214 largeG4711 31basketsG4711 fullG4138 of brokenG2801 piecesG2801 did you pickG142 up?” And they saidG3004 to Him, “SevenG2033.” 21And He was sayingG3004 to them, “32Do you not yetG3768 understandG4920?”
22And they cameG2064 to 33BethsaidaG966. And they broughtG5342 a blindG5185 manG5185 to Jesus and imploredG3870 Him to 34touchG681 him. 23TakingG1949 the blindG5185 manG5185 by the handG5495, He 35broughtG1627 him out of the villageG2968; and after 36spittingG4429 on his eyesG3659 and 37layingG2007 His handsG5495 on him, He askedG1905 him, “Do you seeG991 anythingG5100?” 24And he 38lookedG308 up and saidG3004, “I seeG991 menG444, for 39I seeG3708 them likeG5613 treesG1186, walkingG4043 aroundG4043.” 25ThenG1534 againG3825 He laidG2007 His handsG5495 on his eyesG3788; and he lookedG1227 intentlyG1227 and was restoredG600, and began to seeG1227 everythingG537 clearlyG5081. 26And He sentG649 him to his homeG3624, sayingG3004, “Do not evenG3366 enterG1525 40the villageG2968.”
Peter’s Confession of Christ
2741JesusG2424 wentG1831 out, alongG2532 with His disciplesG3101, to the villagesG2968 of 42CaesareaG2542 PhilippiG5376; and on the wayG3598 He questionedG1905 His disciplesG3101, sayingG3004 to them, “WhoG5101 do peopleG444 sayG3004 that I amG1510?” 2843They toldG3004 Him, sayingG3004, “JohnG2491 the BaptistG910; and othersG243 say ElijahG2243; but othersG243, oneG1520 of the prophetsG4396.” 29And He continued by questioningG1905 them, “But whoG5101 do you sayG3004 that I amG1510?” 44PeterG4074 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to Him, “You are 45the ChristG5547.” 30And 46He 47warnedG2008 them to tellG3004 noG3367 oneG3367 aboutG4012 Him.
3148And He beganG757 to teachG1321 them that 49the SonG5207 of ManG444 mustG1163 sufferG3958 manyG4183 thingsG4183 and be rejectedG593 by the eldersG4245 and the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the scribesG1122, and be killedG615, and afterG3326 threeG5140 daysG2250 riseG450 againG450. 32And He was statingG2980 the matterG3056 50plainlyG3954. And PeterG4074 tookG4355 Him asideG4355 and beganG757 to rebukeG2008 Him. 33But turningG1994 aroundG1994 and seeingG3708 His disciplesG3101, He rebukedG2008 PeterG4074 and saidG3004, “GetG5217 behindG3694 Me, 51SatanG4567; for you are not settingG5426 your mindG5426 on 52God’sG2316 interests, but man’sG444.”
34And He summonedG4341 the crowdG3793 with His disciplesG3101, and saidG3004 to them, “IfG1487 anyoneG5100 wishesG2309 to comeG2064 afterG3694 Me, he must denyG533 himselfG1438, and 53takeG142 up his crossG4716 and followG190 Me. 35For 54whoeverG3739G1437 wishesG2309 to saveG4982 his 55lifeG5590 will loseG622 it, but whoeverG3739G302 losesG622 his 56lifeG5590 for My sakeG1752 and the gospel’sG2098 will saveG4982 it. 36For whatG5101 does it profitG5623 a manG444 to gainG2770 the wholeG3650 worldG2889, and forfeitG2210 his soulG5590? 37For whatG5101 will a manG444 giveG1325 in exchangeG465 for his soulG5590? 38For 57whoeverG3739G1437 is ashamedG1870 of Me and My wordsG3056 in thisG3778 adulterousG3428 and sinfulG268 generationG1074, 58the SonG5207 of ManG444 will alsoG2532 be ashamedG1870 of him whenG3752 He 59comesG2064 in the gloryG1391 of His FatherG3962 with the holyG40 angelsG32.”
