Mark 1

Preaching of John the Baptist

1The beginningG746 of the gospelG2098 of JesusG2424 ChristG5547, 1the SonG5207 of GodG2316.

22As it is writtenG1125 in IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396: “3BeholdG2400, I sendG649 My messengerG32 4aheadG4253 of You, WhoG3739 will prepareG2680 Your wayG3598;35The voiceG5456 of one cryingG994 in the wildernessG2048, ‘MakeG2090 readyG2090 the wayG3598 of the LordG2962, MakeG4160 His pathsG5147 straightG2117.’” 4JohnG2491 the BaptistG907 appearedG1096 in the wildernessG2048 67preachingG2784 a baptismG908 of repentanceG3341 for the 8forgivenessG859 of sinsG266. 5And allG3956 the countryG5561 of JudeaG2453 was goingG1607 out to him, and allG3956 the peopleG2415 of JerusalemG2415; and they were being baptizedG907 by him in the JordanG2446 RiverG4215, confessingG1843 their sinsG266. 6JohnG2491 was clothedG1746 with camel’sG2574 hairG2359 and wore 9a leatherG1193 beltG2223 aroundG4012 his waistG3751, and 10his dietG2068 was locustsG200 and wildG66 honeyG3192. 7And he was 11preachingG2784, and sayingG3004, “AfterG3694 me One is comingG2064 who is mightierG2478 than I, and I amG1510 not fitG2425 to stoopG2955 downG2955 and untieG3089 the thongG2438 of His sandalsG5266. 8I baptizedG907 you 12with waterG5204; but He will baptizeG907 you 13with the HolyG40 SpiritG4151.”

The Baptism of Jesus

914In thoseG1565 daysG2250 JesusG2424 15cameG2064 from NazarethG3478 in GalileeG1056 and was baptizedG907 by JohnG2491 in the JordanG2446. 10ImmediatelyG2117 comingG305 up out of the waterG5204, He sawG3708 the heavensG3772 16openingG4977, and the SpiritG4151 likeG5613 a doveG4058 descendingG2597 upon Him; 11and a voiceG5456 cameG1096 out of the heavensG3772: “17You are My belovedG27 SonG5207, in You I amG2106 well-pleasedG2106.”

1218ImmediatelyG2117 the SpiritG4151 impelledG1544 Him to go out into the wildernessG2048. 13And He was in the wildernessG2048 fortyG5065 daysG2250 being temptedG3985 by 19SatanG4567; and He was with the wildG2342 beastsG2342, and the angelsG32 were ministeringG1247 to Him.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

1420Now afterG3326 JohnG2491 had been 21takenG3860 into custodyG3860, JesusG2424 cameG2064 into GalileeG1056, 2223preachingG2784 the gospelG2098 of GodG2316, 15and sayingG3004, “24The timeG2540 is fulfilledG4137, and the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 25is at handG1448; 26repentG3340 and 27believeG4100 in the gospelG2098.”

1628As He was goingG3855 alongG3855 by the SeaG2281 of GalileeG1056, He sawG3708 SimonG4613 and AndrewG406, the brotherG80 of SimonG4613, castingG293 a netG293 in the seaG2281; for they were fishermenG231. 17And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “FollowG1205G3694 Me, and I will makeG4160 you becomeG1096 fishersG231 of menG444.” 18ImmediatelyG2117 they leftG863 their netsG1350 and followedG190 Him. 19GoingG4260 on a littleG3641 fartherG4260, He sawG3708 29JamesG2385 the son of ZebedeeG2199, and JohnG2491 his brotherG80, whoG846 were alsoG2532 in the boatG4143 mendingG2675 the netsG1350. 20ImmediatelyG2117 He calledG2564 them; and they leftG863 their fatherG3962 ZebedeeG2199 in the boatG4143 with the hiredG3411 servantsG3411, and wentG565 awayG565 30to followG3694 Him.

2131They wentG1531 into CapernaumG2746; and immediatelyG2117 on the SabbathG4521 32He enteredG1525 the synagogueG4864 and began to teachG1321. 2233They were amazedG1605 at His teachingG1322; for He was teachingG1321 them as one havingG2192 authorityG1849, and not as the scribesG1122. 23JustG2117 thenG2117 there was a manG444 in their synagogueG4864 with an uncleanG169 spiritG4151; and he criedG349 out, 24sayingG3004, “34WhatG5101 35business do we have with each other, JesusG2424 36of 37NazarethG3479? Have You comeG2064 to destroyG622 us? I knowG3609 whoG5101 You are--38the HolyG40 OneG40 of GodG2316!” 25And JesusG2424 rebukedG2008 him, sayingG3004, “Be quietG5392, and comeG1831 out of him!” 26ThrowingG4682 him into convulsionsG4682, the uncleanG169 spiritG4151 criedG5455 out with a loudG3173 voiceG5456 and cameG1831 out of him. 27They were allG537 39amazedG2284, soG5620 that they debatedG4802 among themselvesG846, sayingG3004, “WhatG5101 is thisG3778? A newG2537 teachingG1322 with authorityG1849! He commandsG2004 evenG2532 the uncleanG169 spiritsG4151, and they obeyG5219 Him.” 28ImmediatelyG2117 the newsG189 about Him spreadG1831 everywhereG3837 into allG3650 the surroundingG4066 districtG4066 of GalileeG1056.

Crowds Healed

2940And immediatelyG2117 after they cameG2064 41out of the synagogueG4864, they cameG2064 into the houseG3614 of SimonG4613 and AndrewG406, with 42JamesG2385 and JohnG2491. 30NowG1161 Simon’sG4613 mother-in-lawG3994 was lyingG2621 sickG2621 with a feverG4445; and immediatelyG2117 they spokeG3004 to 43Jesus aboutG4012 her. 31And He cameG4334 to her and raisedG1453 her up, takingG2902 her by the handG5495, and the feverG4446 leftG863 her, and she 44waitedG1247 on them.

3245When eveningG3798 cameG1096, 46afterG3753 the sunG2246 had setG1416, they began bringingG5342 to Him allG3956 who were illG2192G2560 and thoseG3588 who were 47demon-possessedG1139. 33And the wholeG3650 48cityG4172 had gatheredG1996 at the doorG2374. 34And He 49healedG2323 manyG4183 who were illG2192G2560 with variousG4164 diseasesG3554, and castG1544 out manyG4183 demonsG1140; and He was not permittingG863 the demonsG1140 to speakG2980, becauseG3754 they knewG3609 who He was.

3550In the earlyG4404 morningG4404, whileG1773 it was stillG3029 darkG1773, Jesus gotG450 up, leftG565 the house, and wentG565 awayG565 to a secludedG2048 placeG5117, and 51was prayingG4336 thereG2546. 36SimonG4613 and his companionsG3588G3326 searchedG2614 for Him; 37they foundG2147 Him, and saidG3004 to Him, “EveryoneG3956 is lookingG2212 for You.” 38He saidG3004 to them, “Let us goG71 somewhereG237 elseG237 to the townsG2969 nearbyG2192, soG2443 that I may 52preachG2784 thereG1563 alsoG2532; for that is what I cameG1831 for.” 3953And He wentG2064 into their synagoguesG4864 throughoutG1519 allG3650 GalileeG1056, 54preachingG2784 and castingG1544 out the demonsG1140.

4055And a leperG3015 cameG2064 to Jesus, beseechingG3870 Him and 56fallingG1120 on his kneesG1120 beforeG1120 Him, and sayingG3004, “IfG1437 You are willingG2309, You canG1410 makeG2511 me cleanG2511.” 41MovedG4697 with compassionG4697, Jesus stretchedG1614 out His handG5495 and touchedG681 him, and saidG3004 to him, “I amG2309 willingG2309; be cleansedG2511.” 42ImmediatelyG2117 the leprosyG3014 leftG565 him and he was cleansedG2511. 43And He sternlyG1690 warnedG1690 him and immediatelyG2117 sentG1544 him awayG1544, 44and He saidG3004 to him, “57SeeG3708 that you sayG3004 nothingG3367 to anyoneG3367; but 58goG5217, showG1166 yourselfG4572 to the priestG2409 and 59offerG4374 for your cleansingG2512 whatG3739 MosesG3475 commandedG4367, as a testimonyG3142 to them.” 45But he wentG1831 out and beganG757 to 60proclaimG2784 it freelyG4183 and to 61spreadG1310 the newsG3056 aroundG1310, to suchG5620 an extentG5620 that 62Jesus couldG1410 noG3371 longerG3371 publiclyG5320 enterG1525 a cityG4172, but 63stayedG1510 out in unpopulatedG2048 areasG5117; and 64they were comingG2064 to Him from everywhereG3840.
