Psalms 73:2-22

2But as for me, 1my feet came close to stumbling, My steps 2had almost slipped.3For I was 3envious of the 4arrogant As I saw the 5prosperity of the wicked.4For there are no pains in their death, And their belly is fat.5They are 6not 7in trouble like other people, Nor are they 8tormented together with the rest of mankind.6Therefore arrogance is 9their necklace; The 10garment of violence covers them.7Their eye 11bulges from 12fatness; The imaginations of their heart overflow.8They 13mock and 14wickedly speak of oppression; They 15speak from on high.9They have 16set their mouth 17against the heavens, And their tongue 18parades through the earth.

10Therefore 19his people return here, And 20abundant waters are drunk by them.11They say, “21How does God know? And is there knowledge 22with the Most High?”12Behold, 23these are the wicked; And always 24at ease, they have increased in wealth.13Surely 25in vain I have 26kept my heart pure And 27washed my hands in innocence;14For I have been stricken 28all day long, And 2930punished every morning.

15If I had said, “I will speak this way,” Behold, I would have betrayed the 31generation of Your children.16When I 32thought of understanding this, It was 33troublesome in my sight17Until I entered the 3435sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their 36end.18You indeed put them on 37slippery ground; You dropped them into 3839ruin.19How they are 4041destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by 42sudden terrors!20Like a 43dream when one awakes, Lord, when 44stirred, You will 45despise their image.

21When my 46heart was embittered And I was 47pierced 48within,22Then I was 49stupid and ignorant; I was like an 50animal 51before You.
