Psalms 51:1-19

1 1 2Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithfulness; According to the greatness of 3Your compassion, 4wipe out my wrongdoings.2 5Wash me thoroughly from my guilt And 6cleanse me from my sin.3For I 7know my wrongdoings, And my sin is constantly before me.4 8Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is 9evil in Your sight, So that 10You 11are justified 12when You speak And 13blameless when You judge.

5Behold, I was 14brought forth in guilt, And in sin my mother conceived me.6Behold, You desire 15truth in the 16innermost being, And in secret You will 17make wisdom known to me.7 18Purify me 19with hyssop, and I will be clean; 20Cleanse me, and I will be 21whiter than snow.8 22Let me hear 23joy and gladness, Let the 24bones You have broken rejoice.9 25Hide Your face from my sins And wipe out all my guilty deeds.

10 26Create 27in me a 28clean heart, God, And renew a 29steadfast spirit within me.11 30Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your 31Holy Spirit from me.12Restore to me the 32joy of Your salvation, And sustain me with a 33willing spirit.13Then I will 34teach wrongdoers Your ways, And sinners will 35be 36converted to You.

14Save me from 37the guilt of bloodshed, God, 38the God of my salvation; Then my 39tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.15Lord, 40 41open my lips, So that my mouth may 42declare Your praise.16For You 43do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offering.17The sacrifices of God are a 44broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise.

18 45By Your favor do good to Zion; 46 47Build the walls of Jerusalem.19Then You will delight in 48 49righteous sacrifices, In 50burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then 51bulls will be offered on Your altar.
