Mark 14:1-42
1NowG1161 theG3588 PassoverG3957 andG2532 theG3588 Feast of Unleavened BreadG1061 wereG1510 twoG1417 daysG2250 awayG3326, andG2532 theG3588 chief priestsG749 andG2532 scribesG1122 were looking forG2212 a covertG1722G1388 wayG4459 to arrestG2902 Jesus and killG615 Him. 2“But notG3361 duringG1722 theG3588 feastG1859,” they saidG2036, “orG3361G4219 there may beG1510 a riotG2351 among theG3588 peopleG2992.”
3WhileG2532 Jesus wasG1510 inG1722 BethanyG963 reclining at the tableG846G2621 inG1722 theG3588 homeG3614 of SimonG4613 theG3588 LeperG3015,2 a womanG1135 cameG2064 with an alabaster jarG211 of expensiveG4185 perfumeG3464, made of pureG4101 nardG3487. She broke openG4937 theG3588 jarG211 and poured it onG2708 Jesus’ headG2776.
4SomeG5100 of those presentG1510, howeverG1161, expressed their indignationG23 toG4314 one anotherG1438: “WhyG1519G5101 thisG3778 wasteG684 ofG3588 perfumeG3464? 5It couldG1410 have been soldG4097 for overG1883 three hundredG5145 denariiG12203 andG2532 the money givenG1325 to theG3588 poorG4434.” AndG2532 they scoldedG1690 herG846.
6ButG1161 JesusG2424 saidG2036, “Leave her aloneG863G846; whyG5101 are you botheringG3930G2873 herG846? She has doneG2038 a beautifulG2570 deedG2041 toG1722 MeG1473. 7TheG3588 poorG4434 you will always haveG3842G2192 withG3326 youG1438,4 andG2532 you canG1410 helpG4160G2095 themG846 wheneverG3752 you wantG2309. ButG1161 you will notG3756 alwaysG3842 haveG2192 MeG1473. 8She has doneG4160 whatG3739 she couldG2192 to anointG3462 MyG1473 bodyG4983 in advanceG4301 ofG1519 My burialG1780. 9AndG1161 trulyG281 I tellG3004 youG4771, whereverG3699G1437 theG3588 gospelG2098 is preachedG2784 inG1519 allG3650 theG3588 worldG2889, whatG3739 she has doneG4160 will also be toldG2532G2980 inG1519 memoryG3422 of herG846.”
10ThenG2532 JudasG2455 IscariotG2469, oneG1520 of theG3588 TwelveG1427, wentG565 toG4314 theG3588 chief priestsG749 toG2443 betrayG3860 Jesus to themG846. 11They were delightedG5463 to hearG191 this, andG2532 they promisedG1861 to giveG1325 himG846 moneyG694.
SoG2532 Judas began to look forG2212 an opportunityG4459G2122 to betrayG3860 Jesus.
On theG3588 firstG4413 dayG2250 of the Feast of UnleavenedG106 Bread,5 whenG3753 theG3588 Passover lambG3957 was to be sacrificedG2380, Jesus’ disciplesG3101 askedG3004 HimG846, “WhereG4226 do You wantG2309 us to prepareG565G2090 forG2443 You to eatG5315 theG3588 PassoverG3957?”
13SoG2532 He sentG649 twoG1417 ofG3588 HisG846 disciplesG3101 andG2532 toldG3004 themG846, “GoG5217 intoG1519 theG3588 cityG4172, andG2532 a manG444 carryingG941 a jugG2765 of waterG5204 will meetG528 youG4771. FollowG190 himG846, 14andG2532 whichever houseG3699 he entersG1525, sayG2036 to theG3588 ownerG3617, ‘TheG3588 TeacherG1320 asksG3004: WhereG4226 isG1510 MyG1473 guest roomG2646, whereG3699 I may eatG5315 theG3588 PassoverG3957 withG3326 MyG1473 disciplesG3101?’ 15AndG2532 heG846 will showG1166 youG4771 a largeG3173 upper roomG508, furnishedG4766 and readyG2092. Make preparationsG2090 for usG1473 thereG1563.”
16SoG2532 the disciplesG3101 leftG1831 andG2532 wentG2064 intoG1519 theG3588 cityG4172, where they foundG2147 everything asG2531 Jesus had describedG2036G846. AndG2532 they preparedG2090 theG3588 PassoverG3957.
17WhenG2532 eveningG3798 cameG1096, Jesus arrivedG2064 withG3326 theG3588 TwelveG1427. 18And whileG2532 theyG846 were recliningG345 andG2532 eatingG2068, JesusG2424 saidG2036, “TrulyG281 I tellG3004 youG4771, oneG1520 ofG1537 youG4771 whoG3588 is eatingG2068 withG3326 MeG1473 will betrayG3860 MeG1473.”
19They beganG756 to be grievedG3076 andG2532 to askG3004 HimG846 oneG1520 afterG2596 anotherG1520, “Surely notG3385 IG1473?”
He answeredG2036G846, “It is one ofG1520 theG3588 TwelveG1427—theG3588 one who is dippingG1686 his hand6 intoG1519 theG3588 bowlG5165 withG3326 MeG1473. 21TheG3588 SonG5207 of ManG444 will goG3303G5217 just asG2531 it is writtenG1125 aboutG4012 HimG846, butG1161 woeG3759 to thatG1565 manG444 byG1223 whomG3739 He is betrayedG3860! It would be betterG2570 for himG846 ifG1487 he had not been bornG3756G1080.”
While they were eatingG846G2068, Jesus tookG2983 breadG740, spoke a blessingG2127 and broke itG2806, andG2532 gaveG1325 it toG846 the disciples, sayingG2036, “TakeG2983 it; thisG3778 isG1510 MyG1473 bodyG4983.”
23ThenG2532 He tookG2983 the cupG4221, gave thanksG2168, and gave itG1325 to themG846, andG2532 they all drankG3956G4095 fromG1537 itG846. 24He saidG2036 to themG846, “ThisG3778 isG1510 MyG1473 bloodG129 of theG3588 covenantG1242,7 whichG3588 is poured outG1632 forG5228 manyG4183. 25TrulyG281 I tellG3004 youG4771, I will no longer drinkG3756G3361G4095G3765 ofG1537 theG3588 fruitG1081 of theG3588 vineG288 untilG2193 thatG1565 dayG2250 whenG3752 I drinkG4095 itG846 anewG2537 inG1722 theG3588 kingdomG932 of GodG2316.”
26AndG2532 when they had sung a hymnG5214, they went outG1831 toG1519 theG3588 MountG3735 of OlivesG1636.
27ThenG2532 JesusG2424 saidG3004 to themG846, “You will all fall awayG3956G4624,8 forG3754 it is writtenG1125:
28ButG235 afterG3326 I have risenG1453, IG1473 will go ahead ofG4254 youG4771 intoG1519 GalileeG1056.”
PeterG4074 declaredG5346G846, “EvenG2532 ifG1487 allG3956 fall awayG4624, IG1473 neverG235G3756 will.”
30“TrulyG281 I tellG3004 youG4771,” JesusG2424 repliedG3004, “thisG3778 veryG4594 nightG3571, beforeG4250 the roosterG220 crowsG5455 twiceG1364, you will denyG533 MeG1473 three timesG5151.”
31ButG1161 Peter kept insistingG2980G4057, “Even ifG1437 I have toG1163G1473 die withG4880 YouG4771, I will never denyG3756G3361G533 YouG4771.” AndG1161 all the othersG3956 saidG2036 the same thingG5615G2532.
32ThenG2532 they cameG2064 toG1519 a placeG5564 calledG3686G3739 GethsemaneG1068, andG2532 Jesus toldG3004 HisG846 disciplesG3101, “SitG2523 hereG5602 whileG2193 I prayG4336.”
He tookG3880 withG3326 HimG846 PeterG4074, JamesG2385, andG2532 JohnG2491, andG2532 beganG756 to be deeply troubledG1568 andG2532 distressedG85. 34ThenG2532 He saidG3004 to themG846, “MyG1473 soulG5590 isG1510 consumed with sorrowG4036 to the point ofG2193 deathG2288. StayG3306 hereG5602 andG2532 keep watchG1127.”
Going a little fartherG4281G3398, He fellG4098 toG1909 theG3588 groundG1093 andG2532 prayedG4336 thatG2443, ifG1487 it wereG1510 possibleG1415, theG3588 hourG5610 would passG3928 fromG575 HimG846. 36“AbbaG5, FatherG3962,” He saidG2036, “all thingsG3956 are possibleG1415 for YouG4771. TakeG3911 thisG3778 cupG4221 fromG575 MeG1473. YetG235 notG3756 whatG5101 IG1473 willG2309, butG235 whatG5101 YouG4771 will.”
37ThenG2532 Jesus returnedG2064 andG2532 foundG2147 themG846 sleepingG2518. “SimonG4613, are you asleepG2518?” He askedG3004. “Were you not ableG3756G2480 to keep watchG1127 for oneG1520 hourG5610? 38WatchG1127 andG2532 prayG4336 so thatG2443 you will not enterG3361G2064 intoG1519 temptationG3986. ForG3303 theG3588 spiritG4151 is willingG4289, butG1161 theG3588 bodyG4561 is weakG772.”
AgainG3825 He went awayG565 and prayedG4336, sayingG2036 theG3588 sameG846 thingG3056. 40AndG2532 againG3825 Jesus returnedG2064 and foundG2147 themG846 sleepingG2518, forG1063 theirG846 eyesG3788 wereG1510 heavyG2599. AndG2532 they did not knowG3756G1492 whatG5101 to answerG611 HimG846.
41When Jesus returnedG2064 theG3588 third timeG5154, He saidG3004, “Are you still sleepingG3063G2518 andG2532 restingG373? That is enoughG568! TheG3588 hourG5610 has comeG2064. LookG2400, theG3588 SonG5207 of ManG444 is betrayedG3860 intoG1519 theG3588 handsG5495 of sinnersG268. 42RiseG1453, let us goG71. SeeG2400, My betrayerG3860G1473 is approachingG1448!”
