Mark 11

1

(Zechariah 9:9–13; Matthew 21:1–11; Luke 19:28–40; John 12:12–19)

AsG3753 they approachedG1448G1519 JerusalemG2414 and came toG1519 BethphageG967 andG2532 BethanyG963 atG4314 theG3588 MountG3735 of OlivesG1636, Jesus sent outG649 twoG1417 ofG3588 HisG846 disciplesG3101 2andG2532 saidG3004 to themG846, “GoG5217 intoG1519 theG3588 villageG2968 ahead ofG2713 youG4771, andG2532 as soonG2112 as you enterG1531G1519 itG846, you will findG2147 a coltG4454 tiedG1210 there, onG1909 whichG3739 no oneG3762G444 has ever satG3768G2523. UntieG3089 itG846 andG2532 bringG5342 it here. 3IfG1437 anyoneG5100 asksG2036, ‘WhyG5101 are you doingG4160 thisG3778?’ tellG2036 him, ‘TheG3588 LordG2962 needsG2192G5532 itG846 andG2532 will returnG649G3825G5602 itG846 shortlyG2112.’”

4SoG2532 they wentG565 andG2532 foundG2147 the coltG4454 outsideG1854 inG1909 theG3588 streetG296, tiedG1210 atG4314 a doorwayG2374. They untiedG3089 itG846, 5andG2532 someG5100 who wereG3588 standingG2476 thereG1563 askedG2036G846, “WhyG5101 are youG4160 untyingG3089 theG3588 coltG4454?”

6

The disciples answeredG2036G846 asG2531 JesusG2424 had instructedG2036 them, andG2532 the people gave them permissionG863G846. 7ThenG2532 they ledG5342 theG3588 coltG4454 toG4314 JesusG2424 andG2532 threwG1911 theirG846 cloaksG2440 over itG846, andG2532 He satG2523 onG1909 itG846.

ManyG4183 in the crowd spreadG4766 theirG846 cloaksG2440 onG1519 theG3588 roadG3598, whileG1161 othersG243 spread branchesG4746 they had cutG2875 fromG1537 theG3588 fieldsG68. 9TheG3588 ones who went aheadG4254 andG2532 those whoG3588 followedG190 were shoutingG2896:

“HosannaG5614!”1
“Blessed isG2127 HeG3588 who comesG2064 inG1722 the nameG3686 of the LordG2962!”2
10“BlessedG2127 is theG3588 comingG2064 kingdomG932 of ourG1473 fatherG3962 DavidG1138!”
“HosannaG5614 inG1722 theG3588 highestG5310!”3

11ThenG2532 Jesus enteredG1525G1519 JerusalemG2414 and went intoG1519 theG3588 templeG2411 courts.4 He looked around atG4017 everythingG3956, but since it wasG1510 alreadyG2235 lateG3796, He went outG1831 toG1519 BethanyG963 withG3326 theG3588 TwelveG1427.

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

(Matthew 21:18–22; Mark 11:20–25)

TheG3588 next dayG1887, when theyG846 had leftG1831G575 BethanyG963, Jesus was hungryG3983. 13SeeingG3708 inG575 the distanceG3113 a fig treeG4808 inG2192 leafG5444, He wentG2064 to seeG2147 ifG1487 there wasG687 anyG5100 fruit onG1722 itG846. But whenG2532 He reachedG2064G1909 itG846, He foundG2147 nothingG3762 on it exceptG1487G3361 leavesG5444, sinceG1063 it wasG1510 notG3756 theG3588 seasonG2540 for figsG4810. 14ThenG2532 He saidG611G2036 toG846 the tree, “May no oneG3367 everG3371G1519G3588G165 eatG5315 ofG1537 yourG4771 fruit againG2590.” AndG2532 HisG846 disciplesG3101 heardG191 this statement.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

(Matthew 21:12–17; Luke 19:45–48; John 2:12–25)

15WhenG2532 they arrivedG2064 inG1519 JerusalemG2414, Jesus enteredG1525G1519 theG3588 templeG2411 courts and beganG756 to drive outG1544 those whoG3588 were buyingG59 andG2532 sellingG4453 there. He overturnedG2690 theG3588 tablesG5132 of theG3588 money changersG2855 andG2532 theG3588 seatsG2515 of thoseG3588 sellingG4453 dovesG4058. 16AndG2532 He would not allowG3756G863 anyoneG5100 to carryG1308 merchandiseG4632 throughG1223 theG3588 templeG2411 courts. 17ThenG2532 Jesus began to teachG1321 themG846, andG2532 He declaredG2036, “Is it not writtenG3756G1125: ‘MyG1473 houseG3624 will be calledG2564 a houseG3624 of prayerG4335 for allG3956 theG3588 nationsG1484’5? ButG1161 youG4771 have madeG4160 itG846 ‘a denG4693 of robbersG3027.’6”

18WhenG2532 theG3588 chief priestsG749 andG2532 scribesG1122 heardG191 this, they looked forG2212 a wayG4459 to killG622 HimG846. ForG1063 they were afraidG5399 of HimG846, becauseG1063 theG3588 wholeG3956 crowdG3793 was astonishedG1605 atG1909 HisG846 teachingG1322.

19AndG2532 whenG3752 eveningG3796 cameG1096, Jesus and His disciples wentG16077 out ofG1854 theG3588 cityG4172.

The Withered Fig Tree

(Matthew 21:18–22; Mark 11:12–14)

20As they were walking backG3899 in the morningG4404, they sawG3708 theG3588 fig treeG4808 witheredG3583 fromG1537 its rootsG4491. 21PeterG4074 rememberedG363 it and saidG3004, “LookG2400, RabbiG4461! TheG3588 fig treeG4808 You cursedG2672 has witheredG3583.”

22“HaveG2192 faithG4102 in GodG2316,” JesusG2424 saidG611G3004 to themG846. 23“TrulyG281 I tellG3004 youG4771 thatG3754 if anyoneG3739G302 saysG2036 to thisG3778 mountainG3735, ‘Be lifted upG142 andG2532 thrownG906 intoG1519 theG3588 seaG2281,’ andG2532 has no doubtG3361G1252 inG1722 hisG846 heartG2588 butG235 believesG4100 thatG3754 it will happenG1096, it will be doneG1510 for himG846. 24ThereforeG1223G3778 I tellG3004 youG4771, whateverG3956G3745 you ask forG154 in prayerG4336, believeG4100 thatG3754 you have receivedG2983 it, andG2532 it will beG1510 yoursG4771.

25AndG2532 whenG3752 you standG4739 to prayG4336, ifG1487 you holdG2192 anythingG5100 againstG2596 another, forgiveG863 it, so thatG2443 yourG4771 FatherG3962 inG1722 heavenG3772 will forgiveG863 yourG4771 trespassesG3900 as wellG2532.8”

Jesus’ Authority Challenged

(Matthew 21:23–27; Luke 20:1–8)

After their returnG2064G3825 toG1519 JerusalemG2414G2532, Jesus was walkingG4043 inG1722 theG3588 templeG2411 courts, and theG3588 chief priestsG749, scribesG1122, andG2532 eldersG4245 came upG2064 toG4314 HimG846. 28“ByG1722 whatG4169 authorityG1849 are You doingG4160 these thingsG3778?” they askedG2036. “And whoG5101 gaveG1325 YouG4771 theG3588 authorityG1849 toG2443 doG4160 them?”

29“I will askG1905 youG4771 oneG1520 questionG3056,” JesusG2424 repliedG2036G846, “andG2532 if you answerG611 MeG1473, I will tellG2046 youG4771 byG1722 whatG4169 authorityG1849 I am doingG4160 these thingsG3778. 30John’sG2491 baptismG908—was itG1510 fromG1537 heavenG3772 orG2228 fromG1537 menG444? AnswerG611 MeG1473!”

31

They deliberatedG1260 amongG4314 themselvesG1438 whatG5101 they should answerG2036: “IfG1437 we sayG2036, ‘FromG1537 heavenG3772,’ He will askG2046, ‘WhyG1223G5101 thenG3767 did you not believeG3756G4100 himG846?’ 32ButG235 if we sayG2036, ‘FromG1537 menG444’...” they were afraid ofG5399 theG3588 peopleG3793, forG1063 they allG537 heldG2192 thatG3588 JohnG2491 trulyG3689 wasG1510 a prophetG4396. 33SoG2532 they answeredG611, “We do not knowG3756G1492.”

AndG2532 JesusG2424 repliedG3004G846, “NeitherG3761 will IG1473 tellG3004 youG4771 byG1722 whatG4169 authorityG1849 I am doingG4160 these thingsG3778.”
