Isaiah 1

(2 Chronicles 28:5–15)

1This is the visionH2377 concerningH5921 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 thatH834 IsaiahH3470 sonH1121 of AmozH531 sawH2372 during the reignsH3117 of UzziahH5818, JothamH3147, AhazH271, and HezekiahH2396, kingsH4428 of JudahH3063.

2ListenH8085, O heavensH8064, and give earH238, O earthH776,forH3588 the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696:
“I have raisedH1431 childrenH1121 and brought them upH7311,but theyH1992 have rebelledH6586 against Me.3The oxH7794 knowsH3045 its ownerH7069,and the donkeyH2543 its master’sH1167 mangerH18,but IsraelH3478 does notH3808 knowH3045;My peopleH5971 do notH3808 understandH995.”
4AlasH1945, O sinfulH2398 nationH1471,a peopleH5971 ladenH3515 with iniquityH5771,a broodH2233 of evildoersH7489,childrenH1121 who act corruptlyH7843!They have forsakenH5800 the LORDH3068;they have despisedH5006 the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478and turnedH2114 their backs on HimH268.
5WhyH5921H4100 do you want moreH5750 beatingsH5221?Why do you keepH3254 rebellingH5627?Your headH7218 has a massiveH3605 woundH2483,and your wholeH3605 heartH3824 is afflictedH1742.6From the soleH3709 of your footH7272 to the topH5704 of your headH7218,there is noH369 soundnessH4974—only woundsH6482 and weltsH2250 and festeringH2961 soresH4347neitherH3808 cleansedH2115 norH3808 bandagedH2280 norH3808 soothedH7401 with oilH8081.
7Your landH776 is desolateH8077;your citiesH5892 are burnedH8313 with fireH784.ForeignersH2114 devourH398 your fieldsH127 before youH5048—a desolationH8077 demolishedH4114 by strangersH2114.8And the DaughterH1323 of ZionH6726 is abandonedH3498like a shelterH5521 in a vineyardH3754,like a shackH4412 in a cucumber fieldH4750,like a cityH5892 besiegedH5341.

Meaningless Offerings

9UnlessH3884 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 had leftH3498 us a fewH4592 survivorsH8300,1 we would have becomeH1961 like SodomH5467, we would have resembledH1819 GomorrahH6017.2

10HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068,you rulersH7101 of SodomH5467;listenH238 to the instructionH8451 of our GodH430,you peopleH5971 of GomorrahH6017!
11“WhatH4100 good to Me is your multitudeH7230 of sacrificesH2077?”saysH559 the LORDH3068.“I am fullH7646 from the burnt offeringsH5930 of ramsH352and the fatH2459 of well-fed cattleH4806;I take no delightH3808H2654 in the bloodH1818 of bullsH6499and lambsH3532 and goatsH6260.12WhenH3588 you comeH935 to appearH7200 before MeH6440,whoH4310 has requiredH1245 thisH2063 of youH3027—this tramplingH7429 of My courtsH2691?
13BringH935 your worthlessH7723 offeringsH4503 noH3808 moreH3254;your incenseH7004 is detestableH8441H1931 to Me.New MoonsH2320, SabbathsH7676, and convocationsH7121H4744—I cannotH3808 endureH3201 iniquityH205 in a solemn assemblyH6116.14IH5315 hateH8130 your New MoonsH2320and your appointed feastsH4150.They have becomeH1961 a burdenH2960 to MeH5921;I am wearyH3811 of bearing themH5375.
15When you spread outH6566 your hands in prayerH3709,I will hideH5956 My eyesH5869 from you;evenH1571 thoughH3588 you multiplyH7235 your prayersH8605,I will notH369 listenH8085.Your handsH3027 are coveredH4390 with bloodH1818.
16WashH7364 and cleanse yourselvesH2135.RemoveH5493 your evilH7455 deedsH4611 fromH5048 My sightH5869.StopH2308 doing evilH7489!17LearnH3925 to do rightH3190;seekH1875 justiceH4941 and correctH833 the oppressorH2541.3DefendH8199 the fatherlessH3490and plead the caseH7378 of the widowH490.”
18“ComeH1980 nowH4994, let us reason togetherH3198,”saysH559 the LORDH3068.“ThoughH518 your sinsH2399 areH1961 like scarletH8144,they will be as whiteH3835 as snowH7950;thoughH518 they are as redH119 as crimsonH8438,they will becomeH1961 like woolH6785.19IfH518 you are willingH14 and obedientH8085,you will eatH398 the bestH2898 of the landH776.

The Corruption of Zion

20But ifH518 you resistH3985 and rebelH4784, you will be devouredH398 by the swordH2719.” ForH3588 the mouthH6310 of the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696.

21See howH349 the faithfulH539H4392 cityH7151 has becomeH1961 a harlotH2181!She once was full of justiceH4941;righteousnessH6664 residedH3885 within her,but now onlyH6258 murderersH7523!22Your silverH3701 has becomeH1961 drossH5509;your fine wineH5435 is dilutedH4107 with waterH4325.23Your rulersH8269 are rebelsH5637,friendsH2270 of thievesH1590.They allH3605 loveH157 bribesH7810and chasing afterH7291 rewardsH8021.They do notH3808 defendH8199 the fatherlessH3490,and the pleaH7379 of the widowH490 neverH3808 comesH935 before themH413.
24ThereforeH3651 the LordH113 GODH3068 of HostsH6635,the MightyH46 One of IsraelH3478, declaresH5002:
“AhH1945, I will be relievedH5162 of My foesH6862and avenge MyselfH5358 on My enemiesH341.25I will turnH7725 My handH3027 against youH5921;I will thoroughly purgeH6884H1253 your drossH5509;I will removeH5493 allH3605 your impuritiesH913.26I will restoreH7725 your judgesH8199 as at firstH7223,and your counselorsH3289 as at the beginningH8462.After thatH310H3651 you will be calledH7121 the CityH5892 of RighteousnessH6664,the FaithfulH539 CityH7151.”
27ZionH6726 will be redeemedH6299 with justiceH4941,her repentant onesH7725 with righteousnessH6666.28But rebelsH6586 and sinnersH2400 will togetherH3162 be shatteredH7667,and those who forsakeH5800 the LORDH3068 will perishH3615.29SurelyH3588 you will be ashamedH954 of the sacred oaksH352in which you have delightedH2530;you will be embarrassedH2659 by the gardensH1593thatH834 you have chosenH977.
30ForH3588 you will becomeH1961 like an oakH424 whose leavesH5929 are witheredH5034,like a gardenH1593 withoutH369 waterH4325.31The strong manH2634 will becomeH1961 tinderH5296and his workH6467 will be a sparkH5213;bothH8147 will burnH1197 togetherH3162,with no oneH369 to quench the flamesH3518.
