Romans 1

1PaulG3972, a servantG1401 of ChristG5547 JesusG2424, calledG2822 to be an apostleG652, and set apartG873 forG1519 the gospelG2098 of GodG2316— 2the gospel He promised beforehandG4279 throughG1223 HisG846 prophetsG4396 inG1722 the HolyG40 ScripturesG1124, 3regardingG4012 HisG846 SonG5207, whoG3588 was a descendantG1096G1537G4690 of DavidG1138 according toG2596 the fleshG4561, 4and whoG3588 throughG2596 the SpiritG4151 of holinessG42 was declaredG3724 withG1722 powerG1411 to be the SonG5207 of GodG2316 byG1537 His resurrectionG386 from the deadG3498: JesusG2424 ChristG5547 ourG1473 LordG2962.

5ThroughG1223 Him and on behalf ofG5228 HisG846 nameG3686, we receivedG2983 graceG5485 andG2532 apostleshipG651 to callG1519 allG3956 those amongG1722 theG3588 GentilesG1484 to the obedienceG5218 that comes from faithG4102. 6And youG4771 alsoG2532 areG1510 amongG1722 those who areG3739 calledG2822 to belong to JesusG2424 ChristG5547.

7To allG3956 inG1722 RomeG4516 who are lovedG27 by GodG2316 and called to beG2822 saintsG40:

GraceG5485 andG2532 peaceG1515 to youG4771 fromG575 GodG2316 ourG1473 FatherG3962 andG2532 the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547.

Unashamed of the Gospel

8FirstG4412, I thankG2168 myG1473 GodG2316 throughG1223 JesusG2424 ChristG5547 forG4012 allG3956 of youG4771, becauseG3754 yourG4771 faithG4102 is being proclaimedG2605 allG3650 overG1722 theG3588 worldG2889. 9GodG2316, whomG3739 I serveG3000 withG1722 myG1473 spiritG41511 in preachingG1722 theG3588 gospelG2098 ofG3588 HisG846 SonG5207, isG1510 myG1473 witnessG3144 howG5613 constantlyG89 I rememberG4160G3417 youG4771 10inG1909 myG1473 prayersG4335 at all timesG3842, askingG1189 thatG1487G4459 nowG2235 at lastG4218 byG1722 God’sG2316 willG2307 I may succeedG2137 in comingG2064 toG4314 youG4771. 11ForG1063 I longG1971 to seeG3708 youG4771 so thatG2443 I may impartG3330 to youG4771 someG5100 spiritualG4152 giftG5486 toG1519 strengthenG4741 youG4771, 12thatG3778 isG1510, that youG4771 andG2532 IG1473 may be mutually encouragedG4837G1722G4771 byG1223 each other’sG240 faithG4102.

I do not wantG3756G2309 youG4771 to be unawareG50, brothersG80, howG3754 oftenG4178 I plannedG4388 to comeG2064 toG4314 youG4771 (but have been preventedG2967 from visiting2 untilG891 nowG3588G1204), in order thatG2443 I might haveG2192 aG5100 harvestG2590 amongG1722 youG4771, justG2532 asG2531 I have had amongG1722 theG3588 otherG3062 GentilesG1484. 14I amG1510 obligatedG3781 bothG5037 to GreeksG1672 andG2532 non-GreeksG915,3 bothG5037 to the wiseG4680 andG2532 the foolishG453. 15That is whyG3779 IG1473 am so eagerG4289 to preach the gospelG2097 alsoG2532 to youG4771 whoG3588 are inG1722 RomeG4516.

I am not ashamed ofG3756G1870 theG3588 gospelG2098, becauseG1063 it isG1510 the powerG1411 of GodG2316 forG1519 salvationG4991 to everyoneG3956 whoG3588 believesG4100, firstG4412 to the JewG2453, thenG2532 to the GreekG1672. 17ForG1063 the gospel revealsG601 the righteousnessG1343 of GodG2316 that comes byG1537 faithG4102 from start toG1519 finish,4 just asG2531 it is writtenG1125: “TheG3588 righteousG1342 will liveG2198 byG1537 faithG4102.”5

God’s Wrath against Sin

The wrathG3709 of GodG2316 is being revealedG601 fromG575 heavenG3772 againstG1909 allG3956 the godlessnessG763 andG2532 wickednessG93 of menG444 whoG3588 suppressG2722 theG3588 truthG225 byG1722 their wickednessG93. 19ForG1360 what may be knownG1110 about GodG2316 isG1510 plainG5318 toG1722 themG846, becauseG1063 GodG2316 has made it plainG5319 to themG846. 20ForG1063 sinceG575 the creationG2937 of the worldG2889 God’s invisible qualitiesG517, HisG846 eternalG126 powerG1411 andG2532 divine natureG2305, have been clearly seenG2529, being understoodG3539 fromG3588 His workmanshipG4161, so thatG1519 men areG1510 without excuseG379.

21ForG1360 although they knewG1097 GodG2316, they neither glorifiedG1392G3756 Him asG5613 GodG2316 nor gave thanksG2168 to Him, butG235 they became futileG3154 inG1722 theirG846 thinkingG1261 andG2532 darkenedG4654 in theirG846 foolishG801 heartsG2588. 22Although they claimedG5335 to beG1510 wiseG4680, they became foolsG3471, 23andG2532 exchangedG236 theG3588 gloryG1391 of theG3588 immortalG862 GodG2316 forG1722 imagesG3667G1504 of mortalG5349 manG444 andG2532 birdsG4071 andG2532 animalsG5074 andG2532 reptilesG2062.

24ThereforeG1352 GodG2316 gave them overG3860G846 inG1722 theG3588 desiresG1939 ofG3588 theirG846 heartsG2588 toG1519 impurityG167 for theG3588 dishonoringG818 of theirG846 bodiesG4983 withG1722 one another. 25They exchangedG3337 theG3588 truthG225 of GodG2316 forG1722 a lieG5579, andG2532 worshipedG4573 andG2532 servedG3000 theG3588 creatureG2937 rather thanG3844 theG3588 CreatorG2936, whoG3739 isG1510 foreverG1519G3588G165 worthy of praiseG2128!6 AmenG281.

26For this reasonG1223G3778 GodG2316 gave them overG3860G846 toG1519 dishonorableG819 passionsG3806. EvenG5037 theirG846 womenG2338 exchangedG3337 naturalG5446 relationsG5540 forG1519 unnaturalG3844G5449 ones. 27LikewiseG3668, theG3588 menG730 abandonedG863 naturalG5446 relationsG5540 withG3588 womenG2338 and burnedG1572 withG1722 lustG3715 forG1519 one anotherG240. MenG730 committedG2716 indecentG808 acts withG1722 other menG730 andG2532 receivedG618 inG1722 themselvesG1438 theG3588 dueG1163 penaltyG489 forG3588 theirG846 errorG4106.

28FurthermoreG2532, sinceG2531 they did not see fitG3756G1381 to acknowledgeG2192G1722G1922 GodG2316, He gave them upG3860G846 toG1519 a depravedG96 mindG3563, to doG4160 whatG3588 ought not to be doneG3361G2520. 29They have become filled withG4137 every kind ofG3956 wickednessG93, evilG4189, greedG4124, and depravityG2549. They are fullG3324 of envyG5355, murderG5408, strifeG2054, deceitG1388, and maliceG2550. They are gossipsG5588, 30slanderersG2637, God-hatersG2319, insolentG5197, arrogantG5244, and boastfulG213. They inventG2182 new forms of evilG2556; they disobeyG545 their parentsG1118. 31They are senselessG801, faithlessG802, heartlessG794, mercilessG415.

32Although they knowG1921 God’sG2316 righteous decreeG1345 thatG3754 those whoG3588 doG4238 suchG3588 thingsG5108 areG1510 worthyG514 of deathG2288, they notG3756 onlyG3440 continue to doG4160 these thingsG846, butG235 alsoG2532 approve ofG4909 those whoG3588 practiceG4238 them.
