Acts 21

1AfterG1161G1096G5613 we had torn ourselves awayG645 fromG575 themG846, weG1473 sailedG321 directlyG2113G2064 toG1519 CosG2972, andG1161 theG3588 nextG1836 day on toG1519 RhodesG4499, and from thereG2547 toG1519 PataraG3959. 2FindingG2147 a shipG4143 crossing overG1276 toG1519 PhoeniciaG5403, we boardedG1910 it and set sailG321. 3After sightingG398 CyprusG2954 andG2532 passing south of itG2641G846G2176, we sailed onG4126 toG1519 SyriaG4947 andG2532 landedG2718 atG1519 TyreG5184, where theG3588 shipG4143 wasG1510 to unloadG670 its cargoG1117.

We sought outG429 theG3588 disciplesG3101 in Tyre and stayedG1961 with them sevenG2033 daysG2250. ThroughG1223 theG3588 SpiritG4151 they kept tellingG2036 PaulG3972 notG3361 to go upG1910 toG1519 JerusalemG2414. 5ButG1161 whenG3753 ourG1473 timeG2250 there had endedG1822, we set outG1831 on our journeyG4198. AllG3956 the disciples, withG4862 their wivesG1135 andG2532 childrenG5043, accompaniedG4311 usG1473 out ofG2193G1854 theG3588 cityG4172 andG2532 knelt downG5087G3588G1119 onG1909 theG3588 beachG123 to prayG4336 with us. 6And after we had said our farewellsG782G240, we went aboardG305G1519 theG3588 shipG4143, andG1161 theyG1565 returnedG5290 homeG1519G3588G2398.

7When we had finishedG1274 our voyageG4144 fromG575 TyreG5184, weG1473 landedG2658 atG1519 PtolemaisG4424, where we greetedG782 theG3588 brothersG80 and stayedG3306 withG3844 themG846 for aG1520 dayG2250.

Paul Visits Philip the Evangelist

LeavingG1831 theG3588 next dayG1887, we went onG2064 toG1519 CaesareaG2542 andG2532 stayedG1525G3306 atG1519 theG3588 homeG3624 of PhilipG5376 theG3588 evangelistG2099, who wasG1510 one ofG1537 theG3588 SevenG2033.1 9He hadG1510 fourG5064 unmarriedG3933 daughtersG2364 who prophesiedG4395.

10AfterG1161 we had been thereG1961 severalG4119 daysG2250, aG5100 prophetG4396 namedG3686 AgabusG13 came downG2718 fromG575 JudeaG2449. 11Coming overG2064 toG4314 usG1473, he tookG142 Paul’sG3972 beltG2223, boundG1210 hisG1438 own feetG4228 andG2532 handsG5495, and saidG2036, “TheG3588 HolyG40 SpiritG4151 saysG3004: ‘In this wayG3779 theG3588 JewsG2453 ofG1722 JerusalemG2419 will bindG1210 theG3588 owner ofG435G3739G1510 thisG3778 beltG2223 andG2532 hand him overG3860G1519G5495 to the GentilesG1484.’” 12WhenG5613 we heardG191 thisG3778, weG1473 andG2532 theG3588 people thereG1786 pleaded withG3870 Paul notG3361 to go upG305 toG1519 JerusalemG2419.

13ThenG5119 PaulG3972 answeredG611, “WhyG5101 are youG4160 weepingG2799 andG2532 breakingG4919 myG1473 heartG2588? IG1473 amG2192 readyG2093 notG3756 onlyG3440 to be boundG1210, butG235 alsoG2532 to dieG599 inG1519 JerusalemG2419 forG5228 theG3588 nameG3686 of theG3588 LordG2962 JesusG2424.” 14When heG846 would not be dissuadedG3361G3982, we quieted downG2270 and saidG2036, “TheG3588 Lord’sG3588G2962 willG2307 be doneG1096.”

15

AfterG3326 theseG3778 daysG2250, we packed upG643 and went onG305 toG1519 JerusalemG2414. 16Some of theG3588 disciplesG3101 fromG575 CaesareaG2542 accompaniedG4905G4862 usG1473, and they took usG71 to stay at the homeG3844G3739G3579 of MnasonG3416 the CypriotG2953, an earlyG744 discipleG3101.

17

Paul’s Arrival at Jerusalem

When weG1473 arrivedG1096 inG1519 JerusalemG2414, theG3588 brothersG80 welcomedG588 usG1473 joyfullyG780. 18TheG3588 nextG1966 day PaulG3972 went inG1524 withG4862 usG1473 toG4314 see JamesG2385, andG5037 allG3956 theG3588 eldersG4245 were presentG3854. 19Paul greetedG782 themG846 and recountedG1834 oneG1520 byG2596 oneG1538 the things thatG3739 GodG2316 had doneG4160 amongG1722 theG3588 GentilesG1484 throughG1223 hisG846 ministryG1248.

20

When they heardG191 this, they glorifiedG1392 GodG2316. ThenG5037 they saidG2036 toG846 Paul, “You seeG2334, brotherG80, how manyG4214 thousandsG3461 ofG1722 JewsG2453 have believedG4100, andG2532 allG3956 of them areG5225 zealousG2207 for theG3588 lawG3551. 21ButG1161 they are under the impressionG2727G4012 thatG3754 youG4771 teachG1321 allG3956 the JewsG2453 whoG3588 live amongG2596 theG3588 GentilesG1484 to forsakeG646G575 MosesG3475, tellingG3004 themG846 notG3361 to circumciseG4059 their childrenG5043 or observeG4043G3588 our customsG1485. 22WhatG5101 thenG3767 shouldG1510 we do? They will certainly hearG3843G191 thatG3754 you have comeG2064.

23ThereforeG3767 doG4160 whatG3778G3739 we adviseG3004 youG4771. There areG1510 fourG5064 menG435 with usG1473 who have takenG1909G1438G2192 a vowG2171. 24TakeG3880 theseG3778 men, purify yourselfG48 along withG4862 themG846, andG2532 pay their expensesG1159G1909G846 soG2443 they can haveG3588 their headsG2776 shavedG3587. ThenG2532 everyoneG3956 will knowG1097 thatG3754 thereG1510 is no truthG3762 to these rumorsG2727 aboutG4012 youG4771, butG235 that youG846 alsoG2532 liveG4748 in obedienceG5442 to theG3588 lawG3551.

25

As forG4012 theG3588 GentileG1484 believersG4100, weG1473 have writtenG1989 to them our decisionG2919 that theyG846 must abstainG5442 fromG3588 food sacrificed to idolsG1494, from bloodG129, from the meat of strangled animalsG4156, andG2532 from sexual immoralityG4202.”

26So theG3588 nextG2192 dayG2250 PaulG3972 tookG3880 theG3588 menG435 and purified himselfG48 along withG4862 themG846. Then he enteredG1524G1519 theG3588 templeG2411 to give noticeG1229 of theG3588 dateG2250 when their purificationG49 would be completeG1604 and theG3588 offeringG4376 would be madeG4374 forG5228 eachG1538G1520 of themG846.

Paul Seized at the Temple

27WhenG5613 theG3588 sevenG2033 daysG2250 were almostG3195 overG4931, some JewsG2453 fromG575 the province of AsiaG7732 sawG2300 Paul atG1722 theG3588 templeG2411. They stirred upG4797 theG3588 wholeG3956 crowdG3793 andG2532 seizedG1911G3588G5495G1909 himG846, 28crying outG2896, “MenG435 of IsraelG2475, help usG997! ThisG3778 isG1510 theG3588 manG444 whoG3588 teachesG1321 everyoneG3956 everywhereG3837 againstG2596 our peopleG2992 andG2532 against our lawG3551 andG2532 against thisG3778 placeG5117. FurthermoreG5037G2089G2532, he has broughtG1521 GreeksG1672 intoG1519 theG3588 templeG2411 andG2532 defiledG2840 thisG3778 holyG40 placeG5117.” 29ForG1063 they hadG1510 previously seenG4308 TrophimusG5161 theG3588 EphesianG2180 withG4862 himG846 inG1722 theG3588 cityG4172, and they assumedG3543 thatG3754 PaulG3972 had broughtG1521 him intoG1519 theG3588 templeG2411.

30

TheG3588 wholeG3650 cityG4172 was stirred upG2795, andG2532 theG3588 peopleG2992 rushed togetherG1096G4890. They seizedG1949 PaulG3972 and draggedG1670 himG846 out ofG1854 theG3588 templeG2411, andG2532 at onceG2112 theG3588 gatesG2374 were shutG2808. 31While they were tryingG2212 to killG615 himG846, theG3588 commanderG5506 of theG3588 Roman regimentG46863 receivedG305 a reportG5334 thatG3754 allG3650 JerusalemG2419 was in turmoilG4797. 32ImmediatelyG1824 he tookG3880 some soldiersG4757 andG2532 centurionsG1543 and ran downG2701 toG1909 the crowd. When the people sawG3708 theG3588 commanderG5506 andG2532 theG3588 soldiersG4757, they stoppedG3973 beatingG5180 PaulG3972.

33

TheG3588 commanderG5506 came upG1448 and arrestedG1949 Paul, ordering thatG2753 he be boundG1210 with twoG1417 chainsG254. ThenG2532 he askedG4441 whoG5101 he wasG1510 andG2532 whatG5101 he had doneG1510G4160.

34Some inG1722 theG3588 crowdG3793 were shoutingG2019 one thingG5100, and some anotherG243. AndG1161 since the commander could notG3361G1410 get atG1097 theG3588 truthG804 because ofG1223 theG3588 uproarG2351, he ordered thatG2753 Paul be broughtG71 intoG1519 theG3588 barracksG3925. 35WhenG3753 Paul reachedG1096G1909 theG3588 stepsG304, heG846 had to be carriedG941 byG5259 theG3588 soldiersG4757 because ofG1223 theG3588 violenceG970 of theG3588 mobG3793. 36ForG1063 theG3588 crowdG4128G3588G2992 that followedG190 him kept shoutingG2896, “Away withG142 himG846!”

Paul Addresses the Crowd

37As they were aboutG3195 to takeG1521 PaulG3972 intoG1519 theG3588 barracksG3925, he askedG3004 theG3588 commanderG5506, “MayG1487G1832 IG1473 sayG2036 somethingG5100 toG4314 youG4771?”

“Do you speakG1097 GreekG1676?” he repliedG5346. 38“Aren’tG1510G3756 youG4771 theG3588 EgyptianG124 whoG3588 incited a rebellionG387 some time agoG4253G3778G3588G2250 andG2532 ledG1806 four thousandG5070 membersG435 of theG3588 AssassinsG4607 intoG1519 theG3588 wildernessG2048?”

39ButG1161 PaulG3972 answeredG2036, “IG1473 amG1510 a JewG2453G444 from TarsusG5018 in CiliciaG2791, a citizenG4177 of noG3756 ordinaryG767 cityG4172. NowG1161 I begG1189 youG4771 to allowG2010 meG1473 to speakG2980 toG4314 theG3588 peopleG2992.”

40

Having received permissionG846G2010, PaulG3972 stoodG2476 onG1909 theG3588 stepsG304 and motionedG2678 to theG3588 crowdG2992. A greatG4183 hushG4602 came overG1096 the crowd, and he addressedG4377 them inG3588 HebrewG1446G1258G3004:4
