John 19
Darby Bible
1Then PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 tookG2983 JesusG2424 and scourged [him]. 2And the soldiersG4757 having plaited a crownG4735 of thornsG173 putG2007 it on his headG2776, and putG2007 a purpleG4210 robeG2440 on him, 3and cameG2064 to him and saidG3004, HailG5463, kingG935 of the JewsG2453! and gaveG1325 him blows on the face. 4And PilateG4091 wentG1831 out againG3825 and saysG3004 to them, Lo, I bringG71 him out to you, that ye may knowG1097 that I findG2147 in him no fault whatever. 5(JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 wentG1831 forthG1831 without, wearingG5409 the crownG4735 of thorn, and the purpleG4210 robeG2440.) And he saysG3004 to them, BeholdG2400 the manG444! 6WhenG3753 thereforeG3767 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the officersG5257 sawG3708 him they cried out sayingG3004, CrucifyG4717, crucifyG4717 [him]. PilateG4091 saysG3004 to them, TakeG2983 him ye and crucifyG4717 [him], for I findG2147 no fault in him. 7The JewsG2453 answeredG611 him, We have a lawG3551, and accordingG2596 to [our] lawG3551 he oughtG3784 to dieG599, because he madeG4160 himself SonG5207 of 1GodG2316. 8WhenG3753 PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 heardG191 this wordG3056, he was the ratherG3123 afraidG5399, 9and wentG1525 into the praetoriumG4232 againG3825 and saysG3004 to JesusG2424, Whence art thou? But JesusG2424 gaveG1325 him no answerG612. 10PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 saysG3004 to him, Speakest thou not to me? Dost thou not know that I have authorityG1849 to releaseG630 thee and have authorityG1849 to crucifyG4717 thee? 11JesusG2424 answeredG611, Thou hadst no authorityG1849 whatever against me if it wereG1510 not givenG1325 to thee from above. On this accountG1223 he that has deliveredG3860 me up to thee has [the] greaterG3173 sinG266. 12From this time PilateG4091 soughtG2212 to releaseG630 him; but the JewsG2453 cried out sayingG3004, If thou releasest this [manG3778], thou art not a friendG5384 to CaesarG2541. Every one makingG4160 himself a kingG935 speaksG3004 against CaesarG2541. 13PilateG4091 thereforeG3767, having heardG191 these wordsG3056, ledG71 JesusG2424 out and satG2523 downG2523 upon [the] judgment-seat, at a placeG5117 called Pavement, but in HebrewG1447 Gabbatha; 14(nowG1161 it wasG1510 [the] preparationG3904 of the passoverG3957; it wasG1510 about the sixthG1623 hourG5610;) and he saysG3004 to the JewsG2453, BeholdG2396 your kingG935! 15But they cried out, TakeG142 [him] awayG142, takeG142 [him] awayG142, crucifyG4717 him. PilateG4091 saysG3004 to them, Shall I crucifyG4717 your kingG935? The chiefG749 priestsG749 answeredG611, We have no kingG935 but CaesarG2541. 16ThenG5119 thereforeG3767 he deliveredG3860 him up to them, that he might be crucifiedG4717; and they tookG3880 JesusG2424 and led him away. 17And he wentG1831 out, bearingG941 his crossG4716, to the placeG5117 called [placeG5117] of a skullG2898, which is called in HebrewG1447, GolgothaG1115; 18whereG3699 they crucifiedG4717 him, and with him twoG1417 othersG243, [oneG3588] on this sideG1782, and [oneG3588] on that, and JesusG2424 in the middleG3319. 19And PilateG4091 wroteG1125 a title alsoG2532 and putG5087 it on the crossG4716. But there wasG1510 writtenG1125: JesusG2424 the Nazaraean, the KingG935 of the JewsG2453. 20This title thereforeG3767 manyG4183 of the JewsG2453 readG314, for the placeG5117 of the cityG4172 whereG3699 JesusG2424 wasG1510 crucifiedG4717 wasG1510 near; and it wasG1510 writtenG1125 in HebrewG1447, GreekG1676, Latin. 21The chiefG749 priestsG749 of the JewsG2453 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 to PilateG4091, Do not writeG1125, The kingG935 of the JewsG2453, but that he saidG3004, I amG1510 kingG935 of the JewsG2453. 22PilateG4091 answeredG611, What I have writtenG1125, I have writtenG1125. 23The soldiersG4757 thereforeG3767, whenG3753 they had crucifiedG4717 JesusG2424, tookG2983 his clothesG2440, and madeG4160 fourG5064 partsG3313, to each soldierG4757 a partG3313, and the body-coat; but the body-coat wasG1510 seamless, woven through the wholeG3650 from the topG509. 24They saidG3004 thereforeG3767 to oneG240 another, Let us not rend it, but let us castG906 lotsG2819 for it, whose it shall beG1510; that the scriptureG1124 might beG1510 fulfilled which saysG3004, They parted my garmentsG2440 among themselves, and on my vesture they castG906 lotsG2819. The soldiersG4757 thereforeG3767 did these thingsG3778. 25And by the crossG4716 of JesusG2424 stoodG2476 his motherG3384, and the sisterG79 of his motherG3384, MaryG3137 the [wife] of Clopas, and MaryG3137 of Magdala. 26JesusG2424 thereforeG3767, seeingG3708 his motherG3384, and the discipleG3101 standingG3936 by, whom he lovedG25, saysG3004 to his motherG3384, WomanG1135, beholdG2396 thy sonG5207. 27Then he saysG3004 unto the discipleG3101, BeholdG2396 thy motherG3384. And from that hourG5610 the discipleG3101 tookG2983 her to his ownG2398 home. 28After this, JesusG2424, knowing that all thingsG3778 were nowG2235 finishedG5055, that the scriptureG1124 might be fulfilled, saysG3004, I thirstG1372. 29There was a vesselG4632 thereforeG3767 there fullG3324 of vinegar, and having filled a spongeG4699 with vinegar, and putting hyssopG5301 round it, they putG4060 it up to his mouthG4750. 30WhenG3753 thereforeG3767 JesusG2424 had receivedG2983 the vinegar, he saidG3004, It is finishedG5055; and having bowed his headG2776, he deliveredG3860 up his spiritG4151. 31The JewsG2453 thereforeG3767, that the bodiesG4983 might not remainG3306 on the crossG4716 on the sabbathG4521, for it wasG1510 [the] preparationG3904, (for the dayG2250 of that sabbathG4521 wasG1510 a greatG3173 [dayG2250],) demanded of PilateG4091 that their legsG4628 might beG1510 brokenG2608 and they takenG142 awayG142. 32The soldiersG4757 thereforeG3767 cameG2064 and brokeG2608 the legsG4628 of the firstG4413 and of the otherG243 that had been crucified with him; 33but comingG2064 to JesusG2424, whenG5613 they sawG3708 that he was alreadyG2235 dead they did not breakG2608 his legsG4628, 34but oneG1520 of the soldiersG4757 pierced his sideG4125 with a spear, and immediately there cameG1831 out bloodG129 and waterG5204. 35And he who sawG3708 it bears witnessG3140, and his witnessG3140 isG1510 trueG228, and he knows that he saysG3004 trueG228 that ye alsoG2532 may believeG4100. 36For these thingsG3778 took placeG1096 that the scriptureG1124 might be fulfilled, Not a bone of him shall be broken. 37And againG3825 another scriptureG1124 saysG3004, They shall look on him whom they pierced. 38And after these thingsG3778 JosephG2501 of Arimathaea, who wasG1510 a discipleG3101 of JesusG2424, but secretly through fearG5401 of the JewsG2453, demanded of PilateG4091 that he might takeG142 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424: and PilateG4091 allowedG2010 it. He cameG2064 thereforeG3767 and tookG142 awayG142 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424. 39And NicodemusG3530 alsoG2532, who at firstG4413 cameG2064 to Jesus by nightG3571, cameG2064, bringingG5342 a mixture of myrrhG4666 and aloes, about a hundredG1540 pounds [weight]. 40They tookG2983 thereforeG3767 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424 and boundG1210 it up in linenG3608 with the spices, as it isG1510 the customG1485 with the JewsG2453 to prepare for burial. 41But there wasG1510 in the placeG5117 whereG3699 he had beenG1510 crucifiedG4717 a gardenG2779, and in the gardenG2779 a newG2537 tombG3419 in which no oneG3762 had ever beenG1510 laidG5087. 42There thereforeG3767, on accountG1223 of the preparationG3904 of the JewsG2453, because the tombG3419 wasG1510 near, they laidG5087 JesusG2424.
