John 5
1After these thingsG3778 wasG1510 a feastG1859 of the JewsG2453, and JesusG2424 wentG305 up to JerusalemG2414. 2NowG1161 there isG1510 in JerusalemG2414, at the sheepgate, a poolG2861, which isG1510 called in HebrewG1447, Bethesda, having fiveG4002 porches. 3In these lay a multitudeG4128 of sickG770, blindG5185, lameG5560, witheredG3584, [awaiting the moving of the water. 4For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.] 5But there wasG1510 a certainG5100 manG444 there who had beenG1510 suffering under his infirmityG769 thirtyG5144 and eightG3638 yearsG2094. 6JesusG2424 seeingG3708 this [manG3778] lying [there], and knowingG1097 that he was [in that state] now a greatG4183 length of timeG5550, saysG3004 to him, Wouldest thou becomeG1096 well? 7The infirm [manG444] answeredG611 him, SirG2962, I have not a manG444, in orderG2443, whenG3752 the waterG5204 has been troubledG5015, to castG906 me into the poolG2861; but while I am comingG2064 another descendsG2597 before me. 8JesusG2424 saysG3004 to him, AriseG1453, takeG142 up thy couch and walkG4043. 9And immediatelyG2112 the manG444 becameG1096 well, and tookG142 up his couch and walkedG4043: and on that dayG2250 wasG1510 sabbathG4521. 10The JewsG2453 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 to the healedG2323 [man], It isG1510 sabbathG4521, it isG1510 not permitted thee to takeG142 up thy couch. 11He answeredG611 them, He that madeG4160 me well, he saidG3004 to me, TakeG142 up thy couch and walkG4043. 12They askedG2065 him [thereforeG3767], Who isG1510 the manG444 who saidG3004 to thee, TakeG142 up thy couch and walkG4043? 13But he that had beenG1510 healedG2390 knew not who it wasG1510, for JesusG2424 had slidden away, there beingG1510 a crowdG3793 in the placeG5117. 14After these thingsG3778 JesusG2424 findsG2147 him in the temple, and saidG3004 to him, BeholdG2396, thou art becomeG1096 well: sinG264 no moreG3371, that somethingG5100 worse do not happenG1096 to thee. 15The manG444 wentG565 awayG565 and toldG3004 the JewsG2453 that it wasG1510 JesusG2424 who had madeG4160 him well. 16And for this the JewsG2453 persecutedG1377 JesusG2424 [and sought to kill him], because he had done these thingsG3778 on sabbathG4521. 17But Jesus answeredG611 them, My FatherG3962 worketh hitherto and I workG2038. 18For this thereforeG3767 the JewsG2453 soughtG2212 the moreG3123 to killG615 him, because he had not onlyG3440 violated the sabbathG4521, but alsoG2532 saidG3004 that 1GodG2316 was his ownG2398 FatherG3962, makingG4160 himself equalG2470 with 2GodG2316. 19JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to them, Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to you, The SonG5207 can do nothing of himself save whatever he seesG991 the FatherG3962 doing: for whatever thingsG3778 he does, these thingsG3778 alsoG2532 the SonG5207 does in like manner. 20For the FatherG3962 lovesG5368 the SonG5207 and shews him all thingsG3778 which he himself does; and he will shew him greaterG3173 worksG2041 than these, that ye may wonderG2296. 21For evenG2532 as the FatherG3962 raisesG1453 the deadG3498 and quickens [them], thusG3779 the SonG5207 alsoG2532 quickens whom he will: 22for neither does the FatherG3962 judgeG2919 any oneG3762, but has givenG1325 all judgmentG2920 to the SonG5207; 23that all may honour the SonG5207, even as they honour the FatherG3962. He who honours not the SonG5207, honours not the FatherG3962 who has sentG3992 him. 24Verily, verily, I sayG3004 unto you, that he that hearsG191 my wordG3056, and believesG4100 him that has sentG3992 me, has lifeG2222 eternalG166, and does not comeG2064 into judgmentG2920, but is passed out of deathG2288 into lifeG2222. 25Verily, verily, I sayG3004 unto you, that an hourG5610 isG1510 comingG2064, and nowG3568 isG1510, whenG3753 the deadG3498 shall hearG191 the voiceG5456 of the SonG5207 of 3GodG2316, and they that have heardG191 shall liveG2198. 26For evenG2532 as the FatherG3962 has lifeG2222 in himself, so he has givenG1325 to the SonG5207 alsoG2532 to have lifeG2222 in himself, 27and has givenG1325 him authorityG1849 to execute judgmentG2920 [alsoG2532], because he isG1510 SonG5207 of manG444. 28WonderG2296 not at this, for an hourG5610 is comingG2064 in which all who are in the tombsG3419 shall hearG191 his voiceG5456, 29and shall goG1607 forth; those that have practised goodG18, to resurrectionG386 of lifeG2222, and those that have done evilG5337, to resurrectionG386 of judgmentG2920. 30I cannot do anything of myself; as I hearG191, I judgeG2919, and my judgmentG2920 isG1510 righteousG1342, because I do not seekG2212 my will, but the will of him that has sentG3992 me. 31If I bearG3140 witnessG3140 concerningG4012 myself, my witnessG3140 isG1510 not trueG227. 32It isG1510 another who bears witnessG3140 concerningG4012 me, and I know that the witnessG3140 which he bears concerningG4012 me isG1510 trueG227. 33Ye have sentG649 unto JohnG2491, and he has borne witnessG3140 to the truthG225. 34But I do not receiveG2983 witnessG3141 from manG444, but I sayG3004 this that ye might be savedG4982. 35He wasG1510 the burningG2545 and shiningG5316 lampG3088, and ye wereG1510 willingG2309 for a season to rejoiceG21 in his lightG5457. 36But I have the witnessG3140 [that is] greaterG3173 than [that] of JohnG2491; for the worksG2041 which the FatherG3962 has givenG1325 me that I should complete them, the worksG2041 themselves which I do, bear witnessG3140 concerningG4012 me that the FatherG3962 has sentG649 me. 37And the FatherG3962 who has sentG3992 me himself has borne witnessG3140 concerningG4012 me. Ye have neither heardG191 his voiceG5456 at any timeG4455, nor have seenG3708 his shape, 38and ye have not his wordG3056 abidingG3306 in you; for whom he hath sentG649, him ye do not believeG4100. 39Ye searchG2045 the scripturesG1124, for ye thinkG1380 that in them ye have lifeG2222 eternalG166, and they it isG1510 which bearG3140 witnessG3140 concerningG4012 me; 40and ye willG2309 not comeG2064 to me that ye might have lifeG2222. 41I do not receiveG2983 gloryG1391 from menG444, 42but I knowG1097 you, that ye have not the loveG26 of 4GodG2316 in you. 43I am comeG2064 in my Father's nameG3686, and ye receiveG2983 me not; if another comeG2064 in his ownG2398 nameG3686, him ye will receiveG2983. 44HowG4459 can ye believeG4100, who receiveG2983 gloryG1391 oneG240 of another, and seekG2212 not the gloryG1391 which [comes] from 5GodG2316 aloneG3441? 45ThinkG1380 not that I will accuseG2723 you to the FatherG3962: there isG1510 [oneG3739] who accusesG2723 you, MosesG3475, on whom ye trust; 46for if ye had believedG4100 MosesG3475, ye would have believedG4100 me, for he wroteG1125 of me. 47But if ye do not believeG4100 his writings, howG4459 shall ye believeG4100 my words?
