John 19
1Then PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 tookG2983 JesusG2424, and scourged him. 2And the soldiersG4757 platted a crownG4735 of thornsG173, and putG2007 it on his headG2776, and arrayed him in a purpleG4210 garmentG2440; 3and they cameG2064 unto him, and saidG3004, HailG5463, KingG935 of the JewsG2453! and they struck him with their hands. 4And PilateG4091 wentG1831 out againG3825, and saith unto them, BeholdG2396, I bringG71 him out to you, that ye may knowG1097 that I findG2147 no crime in him. 5JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 cameG1831 out, wearingG5409 the crownG4735 of thorns and the purpleG4210 garmentG2440. And Pilate saith unto them, BeholdG2400, the manG444! 6WhenG3753 thereforeG3767 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the officersG5257 sawG3708 him, they cried out, sayingG3004, CrucifyG4717 him, crucifyG4717 him! PilateG4091 saith unto them, TakeG2983 him yourselves, and crucifyG4717 him: for I findG2147 no crime in him. 7The JewsG2453 answeredG611 him, We have a lawG3551, and by that lawG3551 he oughtG3784 to dieG599, because he madeG4160 himself the SonG5207 of GodG2316. 8WhenG3753 PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 heardG191 this sayingG3056, he was the moreG3123 afraidG5399; 9and he enteredG1525 into the Prætorium againG3825, and saith unto JesusG2424, Whence art thou? But JesusG2424 gaveG1325 him no answerG612. 10PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 saith unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have powerG1849 to releaseG630 thee, and have powerG1849 to crucifyG4717 thee? 11JesusG2424 answeredG611 him, Thou wouldest have no powerG1849 against me, except it wereG1510 givenG1325 thee from above: therefore he that deliveredG3860 me unto thee hath greaterG3173 sinG266. 12Upon this PilateG4091 soughtG2212 to releaseG630 him: but the JewsG2453 cried out, sayingG3004, If thou releaseG630 this manG3778, thou art not Cæsar’s friendG5384: every one that maketh himself a kingG935 speaketh against Cæsar. 13When PilateG4091 thereforeG3767 heardG191 these wordsG3056, he broughtG71 JesusG2424 out, and satG2523 downG2523 on the judgment-seat at a placeG5117 called The Pavement, but in HebrewG1447, Gabbatha. 14NowG1161 it wasG1510 the PreparationG3904 of the passoverG3957: it wasG1510 about the sixthG1623 hourG5610. And he saith unto the JewsG2453, BeholdG2396, your KingG935! 15They thereforeG3767 cried out, AwayG142 with him, awayG142 with him, crucifyG4717 him! PilateG4091 saith unto them, Shall I crucifyG4717 your KingG935? The chiefG749 priestsG749 answeredG611, We have no kingG935 but Cæsar. 16ThenG5119 thereforeG3767 he deliveredG3860 him unto them to be crucifiedG4717.
17They took Jesus therefore: and he wentG1831 out, bearingG941 the crossG4716 for himself, unto the placeG5117 called The placeG5117 of a skullG2898, which is called in HebrewG1447 GolgothaG1115: 18whereG3699 they crucifiedG4717 him, and with him twoG1417 othersG243, on either sideG1782 oneG3588, and JesusG2424 in the midstG3319. 19And PilateG4091 wroteG1125 a title alsoG2532, and putG5087 it on the crossG4716. And there wasG1510 writtenG1125, JESUSG2424 OF NAZARETHG3480, THE KINGG935 OF THE JEWSG2453. 20This title thereforeG3767 readG314 manyG4183 of the JewsG2453, for the placeG5117 whereG3699 JesusG2424 wasG1510 crucifiedG4717 wasG1510 nigh to the cityG4172; and it wasG1510 writtenG1125 in HebrewG1447, and in Latin, and in GreekG1676. 21The chiefG749 priestsG749 of the JewsG2453 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 to PilateG4091, WriteG1125 not, The KingG935 of the JewsG2453; but, that he saidG3004, I amG1510 KingG935 of the JewsG2453. 22PilateG4091 answeredG611, What I have writtenG1125 I have writtenG1125.
23The soldiersG4757 thereforeG3767, whenG3753 they had crucifiedG4717 JesusG2424, tookG2983 his garmentsG2440 and madeG4160 fourG5064 partsG3313, to every soldierG4757 a partG3313; and alsoG2532 the coat: nowG1161 the coat wasG1510 without seam, woven from the topG509 throughout. 24They saidG3004 thereforeG3767 oneG240 to another, Let us not rend it, but castG906 lotsG2819 for it, whose it shall beG1510: that the scriptureG1124 might beG1510 fulfilled, which saith,
25These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standingG2476 by the crossG4716 of JesusG2424 his motherG3384, and his mother’sG3384 sisterG79, MaryG3137 the wife of Clopas, and MaryG3137 MagdaleneG3094. 26When JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 sawG3708 his motherG3384, and the discipleG3101 standingG3936 by whom he lovedG25, he saith unto his motherG3384, WomanG1135, beholdG2396, thy sonG5207! 27Then saith he to the discipleG3101, BeholdG2396, thy motherG3384! And from that hourG5610 the discipleG3101 tookG2983 her unto his ownG2398 home.
28After this JesusG2424, knowing that all thingsG3778 are nowG2235 finishedG5055, that the scriptureG1124 might be accomplishedG5055, saith, I thirstG1372. 29There was setG2749 there a vesselG4632 fullG3324 of vinegar: so they putG4060 a spongeG4699 fullG3324 of the vinegar upon hyssopG5301, and broughtG4374 it to his mouthG4750. 30WhenG3753 JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 had receivedG2983 the vinegar, he saidG3004, It is finishedG5055: and he bowed his headG2776, and gave up his spiritG4151.
31The JewsG2453 thereforeG3767, because it wasG1510 the PreparationG3904, that the bodiesG4983 should not remainG3306 on the crossG4716 upon the sabbathG4521 (for the dayG2250 of that sabbathG4521 wasG1510 a high dayG2250), askedG2065 of PilateG4091 that their legsG4628 might beG1510 brokenG2608, and that they might beG1510 takenG142 awayG142. 32The soldiersG4757 thereforeG3767 cameG2064, and brake the legsG4628 of the firstG4413, and of the otherG243 that was crucified with him: 33but whenG5613 they cameG2064 to JesusG2424, and sawG3708 that he was dead alreadyG2235, they brake not his legsG4628: 34howbeit oneG1520 of the soldiersG4757 with a spear pierced his sideG4125, and straightway there cameG1831 out bloodG129 and waterG5204. 35And he that hath seenG3708 hath borne witnessG3140, and his witnessG3140 isG1510 trueG228: and he knoweth that he saith trueG228, that ye alsoG2532 may believeG4100. 36For these thingsG3778 cameG1096 to passG1096, that the scriptureG1124 might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. 37And againG3825 another scriptureG1124 saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38And after these thingsG3778 JosephG2501 of Arimathæa, beingG1510 a discipleG3101 of JesusG2424, but secretly for fearG5401 of the JewsG2453, askedG2065 of PilateG4091 that he might takeG142 awayG142 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424: and PilateG4091 gave him leave. He cameG2064 thereforeG3767, and tookG142 awayG142 his bodyG4983. 39And there cameG2064 alsoG2532 NicodemusG3530, he who at the firstG4413 cameG2064 to him by nightG3571, bringingG5342 a mixture of myrrhG4666 and aloes, about a hundredG1540 pounds. 40So they tookG2983 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424, and boundG1210 it in linenG3608 cloths with the spices, as the customG1485 of the JewsG2453 isG1510 to bury. 41NowG1161 in the placeG5117 whereG3699 he wasG1510 crucifiedG4717 there wasG1510 a gardenG2779; and in the gardenG2779 a newG2537 tombG3419 wherein wasG1510 never man yet laidG5087. 42There thenG3767 because of the Jews’ PreparationG3904 (for the tombG3419 wasG1510 nigh at hand) they laidG5087 JesusG2424.
