John 13
Darby Bible
1NowG1161 before the feastG1859 of the passoverG3957, JesusG2424, knowing that his hourG5610 had comeG2064 that he should departG3327 out of this worldG2889 to the FatherG3962, having lovedG25 his ownG2398 who were in the worldG2889, lovedG25 them to the endG5056. 2And during supperG1173, the devilG1228 having alreadyG2235 putG906 it into the heartG2588 of JudasG2455 [son] of SimonG4613, Iscariote, that he should deliverG3860 him up, 3[Jesus,] knowing that the FatherG3962 had givenG1325 him all thingsG3956 into his handsG5495, and that he cameG1831 out from 1GodG2316 and was goingG5217 to 2GodG2316, 4rises from supperG1173 and laysG5087 aside his garmentsG2440, and having takenG2983 a linen towelG3012 he girdedG1241 himself: 5then he poursG906 waterG5204 into the washhand basin, and beganG757 to washG3538 the feetG4228 of the disciplesG3101, and to wipe them with the linen towelG3012 with which he wasG1510 girdedG1241. 6He comesG2064 thereforeG3767 to SimonG4613 PeterG4074; and he saysG3004 to him, LordG2962, dost thou washG3538 my feetG4228? 7JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to him, What I do thou dost not knowG1097 nowG1161, but thou shalt knowG1097 hereafter. 8PeterG4074 saysG3004 to him, Thou shalt never washG3538 my feetG4228. JesusG2424 answeredG611 him, Unless I washG3538 thee, thou hast not partG3313 with me. 9SimonG4613 PeterG4074 saysG3004 to him, LordG2962, not my feetG4228 onlyG3440, but alsoG2532 my handsG5495 and my headG2776. 10JesusG2424 saysG3004 to him, He that isG1510 washedG3538 all over needsG5532 not to washG3538 save his feetG4228, but isG1510 wholly cleanG2513; and ye areG1510 cleanG2513, but not all. 11For he knew him that deliveredG3860 him up: on accountG1223 of this he saidG3004, Ye areG1510 not all cleanG2513. 12WhenG3753 thereforeG3767 he had washedG3538 their feetG4228, and takenG2983 his garmentsG2440, having sat downG377 againG3825, he saidG3004 to them, Do ye knowG1097 what I have done to you? 13Ye call me the TeacherG1320 and the LordG2962, and ye sayG3004 wellG2573, for I amG1510 [so]. 14If I thereforeG3767, the LordG2962 and the TeacherG1320, have washedG3538 your feetG4228, ye alsoG2532 oughtG3784 to washG3538 oneG240 another's feetG4228; 15for I have givenG1325 you an exampleG5262 that, as I have done to you, ye should do alsoG2532. 16Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to you, The bondman isG1510 not greaterG3173 than his lordG2962, nor the sentG3992 greaterG3173 than he who has sentG3992 him. 17If ye know these thingsG3778, blessed areG1510 ye if ye do them. 18I speakG3004 not of you all. I know those whom I have chosen; but that the scriptureG1124 might be fulfilled, He that eatsG5176 breadG740 with me has liftedG1869 up his heel against me. 19I tellG3004 you [it] nowG737 before it happensG1096, that whenG3752 it happensG1096, ye may believeG4100 that I amG1510 [he]. 20Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to you, He who receivesG2983 whomsoever I shall sendG3992 receivesG2983 me; and he that receivesG2983 me receivesG2983 him who has sentG3992 me. 21Having saidG3004 these thingsG3778, JesusG2424 was troubledG5015 in spiritG4151, and testifiedG3140 and saidG3004, Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to you, that oneG1520 of you shall deliverG3860 me up. 22The disciplesG3101 therefore looked oneG240 on another, doubting of whom he spokeG3004. 23Now there wasG1510 at table oneG1520 of his disciplesG3101 in the bosomG2859 of JesusG2424, whom JesusG2424 lovedG25. 24SimonG4613 PeterG4074 makes a sign thereforeG3767 to him to ask who it might beG1510 of whom he spokeG3004. 25But he, leaning on the breastG4738 of JesusG2424, saysG3004 to him, LordG2962, who isG1510 it? 26JesusG2424 answersG611, He it isG1510 to whom I, after I have dippedG911 the morselG5596, giveG1325 it. And having dippedG911 the morselG5596, he givesG1325 it to JudasG2455 [son] of SimonG4613, Iscariote. 27And, after the morselG5596, then enteredG1525 SatanG4567 into him. JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 saysG3004 to him, What thou doest, do quickly. 28But noneG3762 of those at table knewG1097 whyG5101 he saidG3004 this to him; 29for some supposed, because JudasG2455 had the bag, that JesusG2424 was sayingG3004 to him, BuyG59 the thingsG3739 of which we have needG5532 for the feastG1859; or that he should giveG1325 somethingG5100 to the poorG4434. 30Having thereforeG3767 receivedG2983 the morselG5596, he wentG1831 out immediately; and it wasG1510 nightG3571. 31WhenG3753 thereforeG3767 he was goneG1831 out JesusG2424 saysG3004, NowG3568 is the SonG5207 of manG444 glorifiedG1392, and 3GodG2316 is glorifiedG1392 in him. 32If 4GodG2316 be glorifiedG1392 in him, 5GodG2316 alsoG2532 shall glorifyG1392 him in himself, and shall glorifyG1392 him immediately. 33ChildrenG5040, yet a littleG3398 while I amG1510 with you. Ye shall seekG2212 me; and, as I saidG3004 to the JewsG2453, WhereG3699 I goG5217 ye cannot comeG2064, I sayG3004 to you alsoG2532 now. 34A newG2537 commandmentG1785 I giveG1325 to you, that ye loveG25 oneG240 another; as I have lovedG25 you, that ye alsoG2532 loveG25 oneG240 another. 35By this shall all knowG1097 that ye areG1510 disciplesG3101 of mine, if ye have loveG26 amongst yourselves. 36SimonG4613 PeterG4074 saysG3004 to him, LordG2962, whereG3699 goest thou? JesusG2424 answeredG611 him, WhereG3699 I goG5217 thou canst not followG190 me nowG1161, but thou shalt followG190 me after. 37PeterG4074 saysG3004 to him, LordG2962, whyG5101 cannot I followG190 thee nowG737? I will lay downG5087 my lifeG5590 for thee. 38JesusG2424 answersG611, Thou wilt lay downG5087 thy lifeG5590 for me! Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to thee, The cock shall not crowG5455 till thou hast deniedG720 me thrice.
