John 12
Darby Bible
1JesusG2424 thereforeG3767, sixG1803 daysG2250 before the passoverG3957, cameG2064 to BethanyG963, whereG3699 wasG1510 the deadG3498 [man] LazarusG2976, whom JesusG2424 raisedG1453 from among [the] deadG3498. 2There thereforeG3767 they madeG4160 him a supperG1173, and MarthaG3136 servedG1247, but LazarusG2976 wasG1510 oneG1520 of those at table with him. 3MaryG3137 thereforeG3767, having takenG2983 a pound of ointment of pureG4101 nardG3487 of great price, anointedG218 the feetG4228 of JesusG2424, and wiped his feetG4228 with her hairG2359, and the houseG3614 was filledG4137 with the odour of the ointment. 4OneG1520 of his disciplesG3101 therefore, JudasG2455 [son] of Simon, Iscariote, who was about to deliverG3860 him up, saysG3004, 5WhyG5101 was this ointment not sold for threeG5145 hundredG5145 denariiG1220 and givenG1325 to the poorG4434? 6But he saidG3004 this, not that he cared for the poorG4434, but because he wasG1510 a thiefG2812 and had the bag, and carriedG941 what wasG1510 putG906 into [it]. 7JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 saidG3004, Suffer her to have keptG5083 this for the dayG2250 of my preparation for burialG1780; 8for ye have the poorG4434 alwaysG3842 with you, but me ye have not alwaysG3842. 9A greatG4183 crowdG3793 thereforeG3767 of the JewsG2453 knewG1097 that he wasG1510 there; and they cameG2064, not because of JesusG2424 onlyG3440, but alsoG2532 that they might seeG3708 LazarusG2976 whom he raisedG1453 from among [the] deadG3498. 10But the chiefG749 priestsG749 took counsel that they might killG615 LazarusG2976 alsoG2532, 11because manyG4183 of the JewsG2453 wentG5217 awayG5217 on his accountG1223 and believedG4100 on JesusG2424. 12On the morrow a greatG4183 crowdG3793 who cameG2064 to the feastG1859, having heardG191 that JesusG2424 is comingG2064 into JerusalemG2414, 13tookG2983 branches of palms and wentG1831 out to meetG5222 him, and cried, HosannaG5614, blessedG2127 [is] he that comesG2064 in the nameG3686 of [the] LordG2962, the KingG935 of IsraelG2474. 14And JesusG2424, having foundG2147 a young ass, satG2523 upon it; as it isG1510 writtenG1125, 15FearG5399 not, daughterG2364 of ZionG4622: beholdG2400, thy KingG935 cometh, sittingG2521 on an ass's coltG4454. 16[Now] his disciplesG3101 knewG1097 not these thingsG3778 at the firstG4413; but whenG3753 JesusG2424 wasG1510 glorifiedG1392, then they rememberedG3403 that these thingsG3778 wereG1510 writtenG1125 of him, and that they had done these thingsG3778 to him. 17The crowdG3793 thereforeG3767 that wasG1510 with him bore witnessG3140 because he had calledG5455 LazarusG2976 out of the tombG3419, and raisedG1453 him from among [the] deadG3498. 18Therefore alsoG2532 the crowdG3793 met him because they had heardG191 that he had done this signG4592. 19The PhariseesG5330 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 to oneG3762 another, Ye seeG3708 that ye profitG5623 nothing: beholdG2396, the worldG2889 is goneG565 after him. 20And there wereG1510 certainG5100 GreeksG1672 among those who cameG305 up that they might worshipG4352 in the feastG1859; 21these thereforeG3767 cameG4334 to PhilipG5376, who was of BethsaidaG966 of GalileeG1056, and they askedG2065 him sayingG3004, SirG2962, we desireG2309 to seeG3708 JesusG2424. 22PhilipG5376 comesG2064 and tells AndrewG406, [and again] AndrewG406 comesG2064 and PhilipG5376, and they tellG3004 JesusG2424. 23But JesusG2424 answeredG611 them sayingG3004, The hourG5610 is comeG2064 that the SonG5207 of manG444 should be glorifiedG1392. 24Verily, verily, I sayG3004 unto you, Except the grain of wheatG4621 fallingG4098 into the groundG1093 dieG599, it abidesG3306 aloneG3441; but if it dieG599, it bearsG5342 muchG4183 fruitG2590. 25He that lovesG5368 his lifeG2222 shall loseG622 it, and he that hatesG3404 his lifeG2222 in this worldG2889 shall keepG5442 it to lifeG2222 eternalG166. 26If any oneG5100 serveG1247 me, let him followG190 me; and whereG3699 I amG1510, there alsoG2532 shall beG1510 my servantG1249. [And] if any oneG5100 serveG1247 me, him shall the FatherG3962 honour. 27NowG3568 is my soulG5590 troubledG5015, and what shall I sayG3004? FatherG3962, saveG4982 me from this hourG5610. But on accountG1223 of this have I comeG2064 to this hourG5610. 28FatherG3962, glorifyG1392 thy nameG3686. There cameG2064 thereforeG3767 a voiceG5456 out of heavenG3772, I both have glorifiedG1392 and will glorifyG1392 [it] againG3825. 29The crowdG3793 thereforeG3767, which stoodG2476 [there] and heardG191 [it], saidG3004 that it had thunderedG1027. OthersG243 saidG3004, An angelG32 has spokenG2980 to him. 30JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004, Not on my accountG1223 has this voiceG5456 comeG1096, but on yours. 31NowG3568 isG1510 [the] judgmentG2920 of this worldG2889; nowG3568 shall the princeG758 of this worldG2889 beG1510 castG1544 out: 32and I, if I be liftedG5312 up out of the earthG1093, will drawG1670 all to me. 33But this he saidG3004 signifyingG4591 by what deathG2288 he was about to dieG599. 34The crowdG3793 answeredG611 him, We have heardG191 out of the lawG3551 that the ChristG5547 abidesG3306 for ever; and howG4459 sayest thou that the SonG5207 of manG444 must beG1510 liftedG5312 up? Who isG1510 this, the SonG5207 of manG444? 35JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 to them, Yet a little while isG1510 the lightG5457 amongst you. WalkG4043 while ye have the lightG5457, that darknessG4653 may not overtake you. And he who walksG4043 in the darknessG4653 does not know whereG4226 he goesG5217. 36While ye have the lightG5457, believeG4100 in the lightG5457, that ye may becomeG1096 sonsG5207 of lightG5457. JesusG2424 saidG2980 these thingsG3778, and goingG565 awayG565 hidG2928 himself from them. 37But though he had done so manyG5118 signsG4592 before them, they believedG4100 not on him, 38that the wordG3056 of the prophetG4396 Esaias which he saidG3004 might be fulfilled, LordG2962, who has believedG4100 our reportG3056? and to whom has the armG1023 of the LordG2962 been revealedG601? 39On this accountG1223 they could not believeG4100, because Esaias saidG3004 againG3825, 40He has blindedG5186 their eyesG3788 and hardenedG4456 their heartG2588, that they may not seeG3708 with their eyesG3788, and understandG3539 with their heartG2588 and be converted, and I should healG2390 them. 41These thingsG3778 saidG3004 Esaias because he sawG3708 his gloryG1391 and spokeG2980 of him. 42Although indeed from among the rulersG758 alsoG2532 manyG4183 believedG4100 on him, but on accountG1223 of the PhariseesG5330 did not confessG3670 [him], that they might not be put out of the synagogueG656: 43for they lovedG25 gloryG1391 from menG444 ratherG3123 than gloryG1391 from 1GodG2316. 44But JesusG2424 criedG2896 and saidG3004, He that believesG4100 on me, believesG4100 not on me, but on him that sentG3992 me; 45and he that beholdsG2334 me, beholdsG2334 him that sentG3992 me. 46I am comeG2064 into the worldG2889 [as] lightG5457, that every oneG3588 that believesG4100 on me may not abideG3306 in darknessG4653; 47and if any oneG5100 hearG191 my words and do not keepG5442 [them], I judgeG2919 him not, for I am not comeG2064 that I might judgeG2919 the worldG2889, but that I might saveG4982 the worldG2889. 48He that rejectsG114 me and does not receiveG2983 my wordsG3056, has him who judgesG2919 him: the wordG3056 which I have spokenG2980, that shall judgeG2919 him in the lastG2078 dayG2250. 49For I have not spokenG2980 from myself, but the FatherG3962 who sentG3992 me has himself givenG1325 me commandmentG1785 what I should sayG3004 and what I should speakG2980; 50and I know that his commandmentG1785 isG1510 lifeG2222 eternalG166. What thereforeG3767 I speakG2980, as the FatherG3962 has saidG3004 to me, so I speakG2980.
