Zaccheus Converted
1He 1enteredG1525 JerichoG2410 and was passingG1330 throughG1330. 2And there was a manG435 calledG2564 by the nameG3686 of ZaccheusG2195; he was a chiefG754 taxG754 collectorG754 and he was richG4145. 3Zaccheus was tryingG2212 to seeG3708 whoG5101 JesusG2424 was, and was unableG3756G1410 becauseG575 of the crowdG3793, for he was smallG3398 in statureG2244. 4SoG2532 he ranG4390 on aheadG1715 and climbedG305 up into a 23sycamoreG4809 treeG4809 in orderG2443 to seeG3708 Him, for He was aboutG3195 to passG1330 throughG1330 that way. 5WhenG5613 JesusG2424 cameG2064 to the placeG5117, He lookedG308 up and saidG3004 to him, “ZaccheusG2195, hurryG4692 and comeG2597 downG2597, for todayG4594 I mustG1163 stayG3306 at your houseG3624.” 6And he hurriedG4692 and cameG2597 downG2597 and receivedG5264 Him 4gladlyG5463. 7When they sawG3708 it, they allG3956 began to grumbleG1234, sayingG3004, “He has goneG1525 5to be the guestG2647 of a manG435 who is a sinnerG268.” 8ZaccheusG2195 stoppedG2476 and saidG3004 to 6the LordG2962, “BeholdG2400, LordG2962, halfG2255 of my possessionsG5225 I 7will giveG1325 to the poorG4434, and ifG1487 I have 8defraudedG4811 anyoneG5100 of anythingG5100, I 9will giveG591 backG591 10fourG5073 timesG5073 as muchG5073.” 9And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, “TodayG4594 salvationG4991 has comeG1096 to thisG3778 houseG3624, becauseG2530 he, tooG2532, is 11a sonG5207 of AbrahamG11. 10For 12the SonG5207 of ManG444 has comeG2064 to seekG2212 and to saveG4982 that which was lostG622.”
Parable of Money Usage
11While they were listeningG191 to theseG3778 thingsG3778, Jesus wentG4369 on to tellG3004 a parableG3850, becauseG1223 13He was nearG1451 JerusalemG2419, and they supposedG1380 that 14the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 was goingG3195 to appearG398 immediatelyG3916. 12SoG3767 He saidG3004, “15A noblemanG2104G444 wentG4198 to a distantG3117 countryG5561 to receiveG2983 a kingdomG932 for himselfG1438, and then returnG5290. 13And he calledG2564 tenG1176 of his slavesG1401, and gaveG1325 them tenG1176 16minasG3414 and saidG3004 to them, ‘DoG4231 businessG4231 with this 17untilG1722G3739 I comeG2064 back.’ 14But his citizensG4177 hatedG3404 him and sentG649 18a delegationG4242 afterG3694 him, sayingG3004, ‘We do not wantG2309 thisG3778 manG3778 to reignG936 overG1909 us.’ 15WhenG1722 he returnedG1880, after receivingG2983 the kingdomG932, he orderedG3004 that theseG3778 slavesG1401, to whomG3739 he had givenG1325 the moneyG694, be calledG5455 to him soG2443 that he might knowG1097 whatG5101 businessG1281 they had doneG1281. 16The firstG4413 appearedG3854, sayingG3004, ‘19MasterG2962, your 20minaG3414 has madeG4333 tenG1176 minasG3414 moreG4333.’ 17And he saidG3004 to him, ‘WellG1065 doneG2095, goodG18 slaveG1401, becauseG3754 you have beenG1096 21faithfulG4103 in a veryG1646 littleG1646 thingG1646, you are to be in authorityG1849 overG1883 tenG1176 citiesG4172.’ 18The secondG1208 cameG2064, sayingG3004, ‘Your 22minaG3414, 23masterG2962, has madeG4160 fiveG4002 minasG3414.’ 19And he saidG3004 to him alsoG2532, ‘And you are to be overG1883 fiveG4002 citiesG4172.’ 20AnotherG2087 cameG2064, sayingG3004, ‘MasterG2962, hereG2400 is your minaG3414, whichG3739 I keptG2192 putG606 awayG606 in a handkerchiefG4676; 21for I was afraidG5399 of you, becauseG3754 you are an exactingG840 manG444; you takeG142 up whatG3739 you did not layG5087 downG5087 and reapG2325 whatG3739 you did not sowG4687.’ 22He saidG3004 to him, ‘24By your own wordsG4750 I will judgeG2919 you, you worthlessG4190 slaveG1401. Did you knowG3609 that I amG1510 an exactingG840 manG444, takingG142 up whatG3739 I did not layG5087 downG5087 and reapingG2325 whatG3739 I did not sowG4687? 23ThenG2532 whyG1223G5101 did you not putG1325 my moneyG694 in the bankG5132, and having comeG2064, I would have collectedG4238 it with interestG5110?’ 24ThenG2532 he saidG3004 to the bystandersG3936, ‘TakeG142 the minaG3414 awayG142 from him and giveG1325 it to the one who hasG2192 the tenG1176 minasG3414.’ 25And they saidG3004 to him, ‘MasterG2962, he hasG2192 tenG1176 minasG3414 already.’ 26‘25I tellG3004 you that to everyoneG3956 who hasG2192, more shall be givenG1325, but from the one who does not haveG2192, evenG2532 whatG3739 he does haveG2192 shall be takenG142 awayG142. 27But 26theseG3778 enemiesG2190 of mineG1473, who did not wantG2309 me to reignG936 overG1909 them, bringG71 them hereG5602 and 27slayG2695 them in my presenceG1715.’”
Triumphal Entry
28After He had saidG3004 theseG3778 thingsG3778, He 28was goingG4198 on aheadG1715, 29goingG4198 up to JerusalemG2414.
2930WhenG5613 He approachedG1448 BethphageG967 and 31BethanyG963, nearG4314 the 32mountG3735 that is calledG2564 33OlivetG1638, He sentG649 twoG1417 of the disciplesG3101, 30sayingG3004, “GoG5217 into the villageG2968 aheadG2713 of you; thereG3739, as you enterG1531, you will findG2147 a coltG4454 tiedG1210 on whichG3739 noG3762 oneG444G3762 yetG4455 has everG4455 satG2523; untieG3089 it and bringG71 it here. 31IfG1437 anyoneG5100 asksG2065 you, ‘WhyG1223G5101 are you untyingG3089 it?’ you shall sayG3004, ‘The LordG2962 hasG2192 needG5532 of it.’” 32SoG1161 thoseG3588 who were sentG649 wentG565 awayG565 and foundG2147 it justG2531 as He had toldG3004 them. 33As they were untyingG3089 the coltG4454, its 34ownersG2962 saidG3004 to them, “WhyG5101 are you untyingG3089 the coltG4454?” 34They saidG3004, “The LordG2962 hasG2192 needG5532 of it.” 35They broughtG71 it to JesusG2424, 35and they threwG1977 their coatsG2440 on the coltG4454 and putG1913 JesusG2424 on it. 36As He was goingG4198, they were spreadingG5291 their coatsG2440 on the roadG3598. 37As soonG1448 as He was approachingG1448, nearG4314 the descentG2600 of 36the MountG3735 of OlivesG1636, the wholeG537 crowdG4128 of the disciplesG3101 beganG757 to 37praiseG134 GodG2316 38joyfullyG5463 with a loudG3173 voiceG5456 for allG3956 the 39miraclesG1411 whichG3739 they had seenG3708, 38shoutingG3004: “40BlessedG2127 is the 41KingG935 who comesG2064 in the nameG3686 of the LordG2962; PeaceG1515 in heavenG3772 and 42gloryG1391 in the highestG5310!” 3943SomeG5100 of the PhariseesG5330 44in the crowdG3793 saidG3004 to Him, “TeacherG1320, rebukeG2008 Your disciplesG3101.” 40But Jesus answeredG611, “I tellG3004 you, ifG1437 theseG3778 becomeG4623 silentG4623, 45the stonesG3037 will cryG2896 out!”
41WhenG5613 He approachedG1448 Jerusalem, He sawG3708 the cityG4172 and 46weptG2799 overG1909 it, 42sayingG3004, “IfG1487 you had knownG1097 in thisG3778 dayG2250, evenG2532 you, the things which make for peaceG1515! But nowG3568 they have been hiddenG2928 from your eyesG3788. 43For the daysG2250 will comeG2240 upon you 47whenG2532 your enemiesG2190 will 48throwG3925 up a 49barricadeG5482 against you, and 50surroundG4033 you and hemG4912 you in on everyG3840 sideG3840, 44and they will levelG1474 you to the groundG1474 and your childrenG5043 withinG1722 you, and 51they will not leaveG863 in you one stoneG3037 upon anotherG3037, becauseG473G3739 you did not recognizeG1097 52the timeG2540 of your visitationG1984.”
Traders Driven from the Temple
4553Jesus enteredG1525 the templeG2413 and beganG757 to driveG1544 out thoseG3588 who were sellingG4453, 46sayingG3004 to them, “It is writtenG1125, ‘54And My houseG3624 shall be a houseG3624 of prayerG4335,’ 55but you have madeG4160 it a robbers’G3027 56denG4693.”
47And 57He was teachingG1321 dailyG2596G2250 in the templeG2413; but the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the scribesG1122 and the leadingG4413 menG4413 among the peopleG2992 58were tryingG2212 to destroyG622 Him, 48and they could not findG2147 59anythingG5101 that they might doG4160, for allG537 the peopleG2992 were hangingG1582 on to 60everyG191 word He said.
