Luke 6

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
11NowG1161 it happenedG1096 that He was passingG1279 throughG1223 some grainfieldsG4702 on a SabbathG4521; and His disciplesG3101 2were pickingG5089 the headsG4719 of grainG4719, rubbingG5597 them in their handsG5495, and eatingG2068 the grain. 2But someG5100 of the PhariseesG5330 saidG3004, “WhyG5101 do you doG4160 whatG3739 3is not lawfulG1832 on the SabbathG4521?” 3And JesusG2424 answeringG611 them saidG3004, “Have you not evenG3761 readG314 4whatG3739 DavidG1160 didG4160 whenG3698 he was hungryG3983, he and thoseG3588 who were with him, 4howG5613 he enteredG1525 the houseG3624 of GodG2316, and tookG2983 and ateG2068 the 5consecratedG4286 breadG740 whichG3739 6is not lawfulG1832 for any to eatG2068 exceptG1508 the priestsG2409 aloneG3441, and gaveG1325 it to his companionsG3588G3326?” 5And He was sayingG3004 to them, “The SonG5207 of ManG444 is LordG2962 of the SabbathG4521.”
67On anotherG2087 SabbathG4521 He enteredG1525 8the synagogueG4864 and was teachingG1321; and there was a manG444 thereG1563 9whoseG2532G846 rightG1188 handG5495 was witheredG3584. 7The scribesG1122 and the PhariseesG5330 10were watchingG3906 Him closelyG3906 to see ifG1487 He healedG2323 on the SabbathG4521, soG2443 that they might findG2147 reason to accuseG2723 Him. 8But He 11knewG3609 12whatG1261 they were thinkingG1261, and He saidG3004 to the manG435 with the witheredG3584 handG5495, “GetG1453 up and 13comeG2476 forwardG1519G3319!” And he gotG450 up and 14cameG2476 forward. 9And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “I askG1905 you, is it lawfulG1832 to doG15 goodG15 orG2228 to doG2554 harmG2554 on the SabbathG4521, to saveG4982 a lifeG5590 orG2228 to destroyG622 it?” 10After 15lookingG4017 aroundG4017 at them allG3956, He saidG3004 to him, “StretchG1614 out your handG5495!” And he didG4160 so; and his handG5495 was restoredG600. 11But they themselvesG846 were filledG4092 with 16rageG454, and discussedG1255 togetherG4314G240 whatG5101G302 they might doG4160 to JesusG2424.
Choosing the Twelve
12It was 17at thisG3778 timeG2250 that He wentG1831 offG1831 to 18the mountainG3735 to 19prayG4336, and He spentG1273 the wholeG1273 nightG1273 in prayerG4335 to GodG2316. 13And whenG3753 dayG2250 cameG1096, 20He calledG4377 His disciplesG3101 to Him and choseG1586 twelveG1427 of them, whomG3739 He alsoG2532 namedG3687 as 21apostlesG652: 14SimonG4613, whomG3739 He alsoG2532 namedG3687 PeterG4074, and AndrewG406 his brotherG80; and 22JamesG2385 and JohnG2491; and PhilipG5376 and BartholomewG918; 15and 23MatthewG3102 and ThomasG2381; JamesG2385 the son of AlphaeusG256, and SimonG4613 who was calledG2564 the ZealotG2208; 16JudasG2455 the son of JamesG2385, and JudasG2455 IscariotG2469, whoG3739 becameG1096 a traitorG4273.
17Jesus 24cameG2597 downG2597 with them and stoodG2476 on a levelG3977 placeG5117; and there was 25a largeG4183 crowdG3793 of His disciplesG3101, and a greatG4183 throngG4128 of peopleG2992 from allG3956 JudeaG2453 and JerusalemG2419 and the coastalG3882 regionG3882 of 26TyreG5184 and SidonG4605, 18whoG3739 had comeG2064 to hearG191 Him and to be healedG2390 of their diseasesG3554; and thoseG3588 who were troubledG1776 with uncleanG169 spiritsG4151 were being curedG2323. 19And allG3956 the 27peopleG3793 were tryingG2212 to 28touchG681 Him, for 29powerG1411 was comingG1831 from Him and healingG2390 them allG3956.
The Beatitudes
20And turningG1869 His gazeG3788 towardG1519 His disciplesG3101, He began to sayG3004, “30BlessedG3107 are 31you who are poorG4434, for 32yoursG5212 is the kingdomG932 of GodG2316. 21BlessedG3107 are 33you who hungerG3983 nowG3568, for you shall be satisfiedG5526. BlessedG3107 are you who weepG2799 nowG3568, for you shall laughG1070. 2234BlessedG3107 are you whenG3752 menG444 hateG3404 you, and 35ostracizeG873 you, and insultG3679 you, and scornG1544 your nameG3686 as evilG4190, for the sakeG1752 of the SonG5207 of ManG444. 23Be gladG5463 in that dayG2250 and 36leapG4640 for joy, for beholdG2400, your rewardG3408 is greatG4183 in heavenG3772. For 37in the sameG846 wayG2596 their fathersG3962 used to 38treatG4160 the prophetsG4396. 24But woeG3759 to 39you who are richG4145, for 40you are receivingG568 your comfortG3874 in fullG568. 25WoeG3759 to you who 41are well-fedG1705 nowG3568, for you shall be hungryG3983. WoeG3759 to you who laughG1070 nowG3568, for you shall mournG3996 and weepG2799. 26WoeG3759 to you whenG3752 allG3956 menG444 speakG3004 wellG2573 of you, for their fathersG3962 used to 42treatG4160 the 43falseG5578 prophetsG5578 in the sameG846 wayG2596.
27“But I sayG3004 to you who hearG191, 44loveG25 your enemiesG2190, doG4160 goodG2573 to thoseG3588 who hateG3404 you, 28blessG2127 thoseG3588 who curseG2672 you, 45prayG4336 for thoseG3588 who 46mistreatG1908 you. 2947Whoever hitsG5180 you on the cheekG4600, offerG3930 him the otherG243 alsoG2532; and whoever takesG142 awayG142 your 48coatG2440, do not withholdG2967 your 49shirtG5509 from him eitherG2532. 30GiveG1325 to everyoneG3956 who asksG154 of you, and whoever takesG142 awayG142 whatG3588 is yoursG4674, do not demandG523 it backG523. 315051TreatG4160 othersG444 the sameG3668 wayG3668 you wantG2309 52them to treatG4160 you. 3253IfG1487 you loveG25 thoseG3588 who loveG25 you, whatG4169 creditG5485 is that to you? For evenG2532 sinnersG268 loveG25 thoseG3588 who loveG25 them. 33IfG1437 you doG15 goodG15 to thoseG3588 who doG15 goodG15 to you, whatG4169 creditG5485 is that to you? For evenG2532 sinnersG268 doG4160 the sameG846. 3454IfG1437 you lendG1155 to those from whomG3739 you expectG1679 to receiveG2983, whatG4169 creditG5485 is that to you? EvenG2532 sinnersG268 lendG1155 to sinnersG268 in orderG2443 to receiveG618 backG618 the sameG2470 amount. 35But 55loveG25 your enemiesG2190, and doG15 goodG15, and lendG1155, 56expectingG560 nothingG3367 in returnG560; and your rewardG3408 will be greatG4183, and you will be 57sonsG5207 of 58the MostG5310 HighG5310; for He HimselfG846 is kindG5543 to ungratefulG884 and evilG4190 men. 3659Be mercifulG3629, justG2531 as your FatherG3962 is mercifulG3629.
37“60Do not judgeG2919, and you will not be judgedG2919; and do not condemnG2613, and you will not be condemnedG2613; 6162pardonG630, and you will be pardonedG630. 38GiveG1325, and it will be givenG1325 to you. They will 63pourG1325 64into your lapG2859 a 65goodG2570 measureG3358--pressedG4085 downG4085, shakenG4531 togetherG4531, and runningG5240 overG5240. For by your standardG3358 of measureG3354 it will be measuredG488 to you in returnG488.”
39And He alsoG2532 spokeG3004 a parableG3850 to them: “66A blindG5185 manG5185 cannotG1410G3385 guideG3594 a blindG5185 manG5185, can he? Will they not bothG297 fallG1706 into a pitG999? 4067A 68pupilG3101 is not aboveG5228 his teacherG1320; but everyoneG3956, after he has been fullyG2675 trainedG2675, will 69be likeG5613 his teacherG1320. 41WhyG5101 do you lookG991 at the speckG2595 that is in your brother’sG80 eyeG3788, but do not noticeG2657 the logG1385 that is in your ownG2398 eyeG3788? 42Or howG4459 canG1410 you sayG3004 to your brotherG80, ‘BrotherG80, letG863 me takeG1544 out the speckG2595 that is in your eyeG3788,’ when you yourselfG846 do not seeG991 the logG1385 that is in your own eyeG3788? You hypocriteG5273, firstG4413 takeG1544 the logG1385 out of your own eyeG3788, and thenG5119 you will seeG1227 clearlyG1227 to takeG1544 out the speckG2595 that is in your brother’sG80 eyeG3788. 4370For there is noG3756 goodG2570 treeG1186 which producesG4160 badG4550 fruitG2590, norG3761, 71on the otherG3825 handG3825, a badG4550 treeG1186 which producesG4160 goodG2570 fruitG2590. 4472For eachG1538 treeG1186 is knownG1097 by its ownG2398 fruitG2590. For men do not gatherG4816 figsG4810 from thornsG173, norG3761 do they pickG5166 grapesG4718 from a briarG942 bushG942. 4573The goodG18 manG444 out of the goodG18 74treasureG2344 of his heartG2588 bringsG4393 forthG4393 whatG18 is goodG18; and the evilG4190 man out of the evilG4190 treasure bringsG4393 forthG4393 whatG4190 is evilG4190; 75for his mouthG4750 speaksG2980 from 76that whichG4051 fillsG4051 his heartG2588.
Builders and Foundations
46“77WhyG5101 do you callG2564 Me, ‘LordG2962, LordG2962,’ and do not doG4160 whatG3739 I sayG3004? 4778EveryoneG3956 who comesG2064 to Me and hearsG191 My wordsG3056 and 79actsG4160 on them, I will showG5263 you whomG5101 he is likeG3664: 48he is likeG3664 a manG444 buildingG3618 a houseG3614, whoG3739 80dugG4626 deepG900 and laidG5087 a foundationG2310 on the rockG4073; and when a floodG4132 occurredG1096, the 81torrentG4215 burstG4366 againstG4366 that houseG3614 and couldG2480 not shakeG4531 it, becauseG1223 it had been wellG2573 builtG3618. 49But the one who has heardG191 and has not actedG4160 accordingly, is likeG3664 a manG444 who builtG3618 a houseG3614 on the groundG1093 withoutG5565 any foundationG2310; and the 82torrentG4215 burstG4366 againstG4366 it and immediatelyG2117 it collapsedG4844, and the ruinG4485 of that houseG3614 was greatG3173.”
