Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

1It happenedG1096 that whenG1722 He wentG2064 into the houseG3624 of oneG5100 of the 1leadersG758 of the PhariseesG5330 on the SabbathG4521 to eatG2068 breadG740, 2they were watchingG3906 Him closelyG3906. 2And 3thereG2400 in frontG1715 of Him was a manG444 sufferingG5203 from dropsyG5203. 3And JesusG2424 answeredG611 and spokeG3004 to the 45lawyersG3544 and PhariseesG5330, sayingG3004, “6Is it lawfulG1832 to healG2323 on the SabbathG4521, orG2228 not?” 4But they keptG2270 silentG2270. And He tookG1949 holdG1949 of him and healedG2390 him, and sentG630 him awayG630. 5And He saidG3004 to them, “78WhichG5101 one of you will have a sonG5207 orG2228 an oxG1016 fallG4098 into a wellG5421, and will not immediatelyG2112 pullG385 him out on a SabbathG4521 dayG2250?” 69And they couldG2480 makeG470 noG3756 replyG470 to thisG3778.

Parable of the Guests

7And He began speakingG3004 a parableG3850 to the invitedG2564 guestsG2564 when He noticedG1907 howG4459 10they had been pickingG1586 out the placesG4411 of honorG4411 at the table, sayingG3004 to them, 8“WhenG3752 you are invitedG2564 by someoneG5100 to a weddingG1062 feastG1062, 11do not 12takeG2625 the placeG4411 of honorG4411, for someone moreG1784 distinguishedG1784 than you may have beenG1510 invitedG2564 by him, 9and he who invitedG2564 you bothG2532G846 will comeG2064 and sayG3004 to you, ‘GiveG1325 your placeG5117 to thisG3778 manG3778,’ and thenG5119 13in disgraceG152 you 14proceedG757 to occupyG2722 the lastG2078 placeG5117. 10But whenG3752 you are invitedG2564, goG4198 and reclineG377 at the lastG2078 placeG5117, soG2443 that whenG3752 the one who has invitedG2564 you comesG2064, he may sayG3004 to you, ‘FriendG5384, 15moveG4320 up higherG511’; thenG5119 you will have honorG1391 in the sightG1799 of allG3956 who 16are at the tableG4873 with you. 1117For everyoneG3956 who exaltsG5312 himselfG1438 will be humbledG5013, and he who humblesG5013 himselfG1438 will be exaltedG5312.”

12And He alsoG2532 went on to sayG3004 to the one who had invitedG2564 Him, “WhenG3752 you giveG4160 a luncheonG712 orG2228 a dinnerG1173, do not inviteG5455 your friendsG5384 orG3366 your brothersG80 orG3366 your relativesG4773 orG3366 richG4145 neighborsG1069, otherwiseG3379 they may alsoG2532 inviteG479 you in returnG479 and that will be your repaymentG468. 13But whenG3752 you giveG4160 a 18receptionG1403, inviteG2564 the poorG4434, the crippledG376, the lameG5560, the blindG5185, 14and you will be blessedG3107, sinceG3754 they 19do not haveG2192 the means to repayG467 you; for you will be repaidG467 at 20the resurrectionG386 of the righteousG1342.”

15When oneG5100 of thoseG3588 who were recliningG4873 at the table with Him heardG191 thisG3778, he saidG3004 to Him, “21BlessedG3107 is everyoneG3748 whoG3748 will eatG2068 breadG740 in the kingdomG932 of GodG2316!”

Parable of the Dinner

16But He saidG3004 to him, “22A manG444 was givingG4160 a bigG3173 dinnerG1173, and he invitedG2564 manyG4183; 17and at the dinnerG1173 hourG5610 he sentG649 his slaveG1401 to sayG3004 to thoseG3588 who had been invitedG2564, ‘ComeG2064; for everything is readyG2092 nowG2235.’ 18But they allG3956 alikeG575G1520 beganG757 to makeG3868 excusesG3868. The firstG4413 oneG4413 saidG3004 to him, ‘I have boughtG59 a 23pieceG68 of landG68 and I needG318 to goG1831 out and lookG3708 at it; 24pleaseG2065 considerG2192 me excusedG3868.’ 19AnotherG2087 oneG2087 saidG3004, ‘I have boughtG59 fiveG4002 yokeG2201 of oxenG1016, and I am goingG4198 to tryG1381 them out; 25pleaseG2065 considerG2192 me excusedG3868.’ 20AnotherG2087 oneG2087 saidG3004, ‘26I have marriedG1060 a wifeG1135, and for that reasonG1223 I cannotG1410G3756 comeG2064.’ 21And the slaveG1401 cameG3854 back and reportedG518 thisG3778 to his masterG2962. ThenG5119 the headG3617 of the householdG3617 became angryG3710 and saidG3004 to his slaveG1401, ‘GoG1831 out at onceG5030 into the streetsG4116 and lanesG4505 of the cityG4172 and bringG1521 in hereG5602 the poorG4434 and crippledG376 and blindG5185 and lameG5560.’ 22And the slaveG1401 saidG3004, ‘MasterG2962, whatG3739 you commandedG2004 has beenG1096 doneG1096, and stillG2089 there is roomG5117.’ 23And the masterG2962 saidG3004 to the slaveG1401, ‘GoG1831 out into the highwaysG3598 and along the hedgesG5418, and compelG315 them to comeG1525 in, soG2443 that my houseG3624 may be filledG1072. 24For I tellG3004 you, noneG3762 of thoseG1565 menG435 who were invitedG2564 shall tasteG1089 of my dinnerG1173.’”

Discipleship Tested

25NowG1161 27largeG4183 crowdsG3793 were goingG4848 alongG4848 with Him; and He turnedG4762 and saidG3004 to them, 26“28IfG1487 anyoneG5100 comesG2064 to Me, and does not 29hateG3404 his own fatherG3962 and motherG3384 and wifeG1135 and childrenG5043 and brothersG80 and sistersG79, yesG2089, and evenG2532 his ownG1438 lifeG5590, he cannotG1410G3756 be My discipleG3101. 27WhoeverG3748 does not 30carryG941 his ownG1438 crossG4716 and comeG2064 afterG3694 Me cannotG1410G3756 be My discipleG3101. 28For whichG5101 one of you, when he wantsG2309 to buildG3618 a towerG4444, does not firstG4413 sitG2523 downG2523 and calculateG5585 the costG1160 to see ifG1487 he hasG2192 enough to completeG535 it? 29OtherwiseG2443G3361, whenG4218 he has laidG5087 a foundationG2310 and is not ableG2480 to finishG1615, allG3956 who observeG2334 it beginG757 to ridiculeG1702 him, 30sayingG3004, ‘ThisG3778 manG444 beganG757 to buildG3618 and was not ableG2480 to finishG1615.’ 31OrG2228 whatG5101 kingG935, when he setsG4198 out to meetG4820 anotherG2087 kingG935 in battleG4171, will not firstG4413 sitG2523 downG2523 and 31considerG1011 whetherG1487 he is strongG1415 enoughG1415 with tenG1176 thousandG5505 men to encounterG5221 the one comingG2064 againstG1909 him with twentyG1501 thousandG5505? 32OrG1161 elseG1490, while the otherG846 is stillG2089 farG4206 awayG4206, he sendsG649 32a delegationG4242 and asksG2065 for termsG4314 of peaceG1515. 33SoG3779 thenG3767, noneG3956G3756 of you canG1410 be My discipleG3101 whoG3739 33does not giveG657 up allG3956 his ownG1438 possessionsG5225.

34“ThereforeG3767, saltG217 is goodG2570; but 34ifG1437 evenG2532 saltG217 has becomeG3471 tastelessG3471, with whatG5101 will it be seasonedG741? 35It is uselessG3777G2111 eitherG3777 for the soilG1093 orG3777 for the manureG2874 pileG2874; it is thrownG906 out. 35He who hasG2192 earsG3775 to hearG191, 36let him hearG191.”
