The Seventy Sent Out
1NowG1161 afterG3326 thisG3778 1the LordG2962 appointedG322 2seventyG1440 3othersG2087, and sentG649 them 4in pairsG1417 aheadG4253G4383 of Him to everyG3956 cityG4172 and placeG5117 whereG3757 He HimselfG846 was goingG3195 to comeG2064. 2And He was sayingG3004 to them, “5The harvestG2326 is plentifulG4183, but the laborersG2040 are fewG3641; thereforeG3767 beseechG1189 the LordG2962 of the harvestG2326 to sendG1544 out laborersG2040 into His harvestG2326. 3GoG5217; 6beholdG2400, I sendG649 you out as lambsG704 in the midstG3319 of wolvesG3074. 47CarryG941 noG3361 moneyG905 beltG905, noG3361 8bagG4082, noG3361 shoesG5266; and greetG782 noG3367 oneG3367 on the wayG3598. 5WhateverG3739 houseG3614 you enterG1525, firstG4413 sayG3004, ‘PeaceG1515 be to thisG3778 houseG3624.’ 6IfG1437 a 9manG5207 of peaceG1515 is thereG1563, your peaceG1515 will restG1879 on him; but ifG1487 not, it will returnG344 to you. 7StayG3306 in 10that houseG3614, eatingG2068 and drinkingG4095 11what they giveG3844 you; for 12the laborerG2040 is worthyG514 of his wagesG3408. Do not keep movingG3327 from houseG3614 to houseG3614. 8WhateverG3739 cityG4172 you enterG1525 and they receiveG1209 you, 13eatG2068 what is setG3908 beforeG3908 you; 9and healG2323 thoseG3588 in it who are sickG772, and sayG3004 to them, ‘14The kingdomG932 of GodG2316 has comeG1448 nearG1448 to you.’ 10But whateverG3739G302 cityG4172 you enterG1525 and they do not receiveG1209 you, goG1831 out into its streetsG4116 and sayG3004, 11‘15EvenG2532 the dustG2868 of your cityG4172 which clingsG2853 to our feetG4228 we wipeG631 offG631 in protest against you; yetG4133 16be sureG1097 of thisG3778, that 17the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 has comeG1448 nearG1448.’ 12I sayG3004 to you, 18it will be moreG414 tolerableG414 in that dayG2250 for 19SodomG4670 thanG2228 for that cityG4172.
13“20WoeG3759 to you, 21ChorazinG5523! WoeG3759 to you, 22BethsaidaG966! For ifG1487 the 23miraclesG1411 had been performedG1096 in 24TyreG5184 and SidonG4605 whichG3739 occurredG1096 in you, they would have repentedG3340 longG3819 agoG3819, sittingG2521 in 2526sackclothG4526 and ashesG4700. 14But it will be moreG414 tolerableG414 for 27TyreG5184 and SidonG4605 in the judgmentG2920 thanG2228 for you. 15And you, 28CapernaumG2746, will not be exaltedG5312 to heavenG3772, will you? You will be broughtG2597 downG2597 to HadesG86!
16“29The one who listensG191 to you listensG191 to Me, and 30the one who rejectsG114 you rejectsG114 Me; and he who rejectsG114 Me rejectsG114 the One who sentG649 Me.”
The Happy Results
17The 31seventyG1440 returnedG5290 with joyG5479, sayingG3004, “LordG2962, evenG2532 32the demonsG1140 are subjectG5293 to us in Your nameG3686.” 18And He saidG3004 to them, “I was watchingG2334 33SatanG4567 fallG4098 from heavenG3772 likeG5613 lightningG796. 19BeholdG2400, I have givenG1325 you authorityG1849 to 34treadG3961 on serpentsG3789 and scorpionsG4651, and overG1909 allG3956 the powerG1411 of the enemyG2190, and nothingG3762 will injureG91 you. 20NeverthelessG4133 do not rejoiceG5463 in thisG3778, that the spiritsG4151 are subjectG5293 to you, but rejoiceG5463 that 35your namesG3686 are recordedG1449 in heavenG3772.”
2136At that veryG846 37timeG5610 He rejoicedG21 greatlyG21 in the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, and saidG3004, “I 38praiseG1843 You, O FatherG3962, LordG2962 of heavenG3772 and earthG1093, that You have hiddenG613 theseG3778 thingsG3778 from the wiseG4680 and intelligentG4908 and have revealedG601 them to infantsG3516. YesG3483, FatherG3962, for thisG3779 wayG3779 was well-pleasingG2107 in Your sightG1715. 2239AllG3956 thingsG3956 have been handedG3860 overG3860 to Me by My FatherG3962, and 40noG3762 oneG3762 knowsG1097 whoG5101 the SonG5207 is exceptG1508 the FatherG3962, and whoG5101 the FatherG3962 is exceptG1508 the SonG5207, and anyone to whomG3739 the SonG5207 willsG1014 to revealG601 Him.”
2341TurningG4762 to the disciplesG3101, He saidG3004 privatelyG2596G2398, “BlessedG3107 are the eyesG3788 which seeG991 the things you seeG991, 24for I sayG3004 to you, that manyG4183 prophetsG4396 and kingsG935 wishedG2309 to seeG3708 the things whichG3739 you seeG991, and did not seeG3708 them, and to hearG191 the things whichG3739 you hearG191, and did not hearG191 them.”
2542And a 4344lawyerG3544 stoodG450 up and putG1598 Him to the testG1598, sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, whatG5101 shall I doG4160 to inheritG2816 eternalG166 lifeG2222?” 26And He saidG3004 to him, “WhatG5101 is writtenG1125 in the LawG3551? 45HowG4459 does it readG314 to you?” 27And he answeredG611, “46You shall loveG25 the LordG2962 your GodG2316 with allG3650 your heartG2588, and with allG3650 your soulG5590, and with allG3650 your strengthG2479, and with allG3650 your mindG1271; and your neighborG4139 as yourselfG4572.” 28And He saidG3004 to him, “You have answeredG611 correctlyG3723; 47doG4160 thisG3778 and you will liveG2198.” 29But wishingG2309 48to justifyG1344 himselfG1438, he saidG3004 to JesusG2424, “And whoG5101 is my neighborG4139?”
The Good Samaritan
30JesusG2424 repliedG5274 and saidG3004, “A manG444 was 49goingG2597 downG2597 from JerusalemG2419 to JerichoG2410, and fellG4045 amongG4045 robbersG3027, and they strippedG1562 him and 50beatG2007G4127 him, and wentG565 awayG565 leavingG863 him halfG2253 deadG2253. 31And by chanceG4795 a priestG2409 was goingG2597 downG2597 on that roadG3598, and when he sawG3708 him, he passedG492 by on the otherG492 sideG492. 32LikewiseG3668 a LeviteG3019 alsoG2532, when he cameG2064 to the placeG5117 and sawG3708 him, passedG492 by on the otherG492 sideG492. 33But a 51SamaritanG4541, who was on a journeyG3593, cameG2064 upon him; and when he sawG3708 him, he feltG4697 compassionG4697, 34and cameG4334 to him and bandagedG2611 up his woundsG5134, pouringG2022 oilG1637 and wineG3631 on them; and he putG1913 him on his ownG2398 beastG2934, and broughtG71 him to an innG3829 and tookG1959 careG1959 of him. 35On the nextG839 dayG839 he tookG1544 out twoG1417 52denariiG1220 and gaveG1325 them to the innkeeperG3830 and saidG3004, ‘TakeG1959 careG1959 of him; and whateverG3739G5100G302 moreG4325 you spendG4325, whenG1722 I returnG1880 I will repayG591 you.’ 36WhichG5101 of theseG3778 threeG5140 do you thinkG1380 provedG1096 to be a neighborG4139 to the man who fellG1706 into the robbers’G3027 hands?” 37And he saidG3004, “The one who showedG4160 mercyG1656 towardG3326 him.” ThenG1161 JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, “GoG4198 and doG4160 53the sameG3668.”
Martha and Mary
38NowG1161 as they were travelingG4198 along, He enteredG1525 a villageG2968; and a womanG1135 namedG3686 54MarthaG3136 welcomedG5264 Him into her homeG3614. 39She hadG1510 a sisterG79 calledG2564 55MaryG3137, whoG3739 was 56seatedG3869 at the Lord’sG2962 feetG4228, listeningG191 to His wordG3056. 40But 57MarthaG3136 was distractedG4049 with 58allG4183 her preparationsG1248; and she cameG2186 up to Him and saidG3004, “LordG2962, do You not careG3199 that my sisterG79 has leftG2641 me to doG1247 all the servingG1247 aloneG3441? ThenG3767 tellG3004 her to helpG4878 me.” 41But the LordG2962 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to her, “59MarthaG3136, MarthaG3136, you are 60worriedG3309 and botheredG2350 aboutG4012 so manyG4183 thingsG4183; 4261but only oneG1520 thingG1520 is necessaryG5532, for 62MaryG3137 has chosenG1586 the goodG18 partG3310, whichG3748 shall not be takenG851 awayG851 from her.”
