Acts 13
Darby Bible
1NowG1161 there wereG1510 in AntiochG490, in the assemblyG1577 which wasG1510 [there], prophetsG4396 and teachersG1320: BarnabasG921, and SimeonG4826 who wasG1510 calledG2564 Niger, and LuciusG3066 the Cyrenian, and Manaen, foster-brother of HerodG2264 the tetrarch, and SaulG4569. 2And as they were ministeringG3008 to the LordG2962 and fastingG3522, the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 saidG3004, SeparateG873 me nowG1161 BarnabasG921 and SaulG4569 for the workG2041 to which I have called them. 3Then, having fastedG3522 and prayedG4336, and having laidG2007 [their] handsG5495 on them, they let [them] goG630. 4They thereforeG3767, having been sent forth by the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, went downG2718 to Seleucia, and thence sailedG636 away to CyprusG2954. 5And being in Salamis, they announced the wordG3056 of 1GodG2316 in the synagoguesG4864 of the JewsG2453. And they had JohnG2491 alsoG2532 as [their] attendant. 6And having passedG1330 through the wholeG3650 islandG3520 as farG891 as PaphosG3974, they foundG2147 a certainG5100 manG435 a magicianG3097, a falseG5578 prophetG5578, a JewG2453, whose nameG3686 was Bar-jesus, 7who wasG1510 with the proconsulG446 Sergius Paulus, an intelligentG4908 manG435. He, having calledG4341 BarnabasG921 and SaulG4569 to [him], desired to hearG191 the wordG3056 of 2GodG2316. 8But Elymas the magicianG3097 (for soG3779 his nameG3686 is by interpretation) opposed them, seekingG2212 to turn awayG575 the proconsulG446 from the faithG4102. 9But SaulG4569, who alsoG2532 [is] PaulG3972, filledG4130 with [the] HolyG40 SpiritG4151, fixing his eyes upon him, 10saidG3004, O fullG4134 of all deceitG1388 and all craft: sonG5207 of [the] devilG1228, enemyG2190 of all righteousnessG1343; wilt thou not ceaseG3973 perverting the right pathsG3598 of [the] LordG2962? 11And nowG1161 beholdG2400, [the] Lord's handG5495 [isG1510] upon thee, and thou shalt beG1510 blindG5185, not seeingG3708 the sunG2246 for a seasonG2540. And immediatelyG3916 there fellG4098 upon him a mist and darknessG4655; and going about he soughtG2212 persons who should lead him by the handG5495. 12ThenG5119 the proconsulG446, seeingG3708 what had happenedG1096, believedG4100, being amazed at the teachingG1322 of the LordG2962. 13And having sailed from PaphosG3974, PaulG3972 and his company cameG2064 to PergaG4011 of PamphyliaG3828; and JohnG2491 separated from them and returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2414. 14But they, passingG1330 through from PergaG4011, cameG2064 to AntiochG490 of PisidiaG4099; and enteringG1525 into the synagogueG4864 on the sabbathG4521 dayG2250 they satG2523 downG2523. 15And after the readingG320 of the lawG3551 and the prophetsG4396, the rulers of the synagogueG752 sentG649 to them, sayingG3004, Brethren, if ye have any wordG3056 of exhortationG3874 to the peopleG2992, speakG3004. 16And PaulG3972, risingG450 up and making a sign with the handG5495, saidG3004, IsraelitesG2475, and ye that fearG5399 3GodG2316, hearken. 17The 4GodG2316 of this peopleG2992 IsraelG2474 chose our fathersG3962, and exaltedG5312 the peopleG2992 in their sojourn in [the] landG1093 of EgyptG125, and with a highG5308 armG1023 brought them out of it, 18and for a timeG5550 of about fortyG5063 years he nursed them in the desert. 19And having destroyed sevenG2033 nationsG1484 in the landG1093 of CanaanG5477, he gave them their landG1093 as an inheritance. 20And after these thingsG3778 he gaveG1325 [them] judgesG2923 till SamuelG4545 the prophetG4396, [to the end of] about fourG5071 hundredG5071 and fiftyG4004 yearsG2094. 21And then they askedG154 for a kingG935, and 5GodG2316 gaveG1325 to them SaulG4549, sonG5207 of Kis, a manG435 of the tribeG5443 of BenjaminG958, during fortyG5062 yearsG2094. 22And having removed him he raisedG1453 up to them DavidG1138 for kingG935, of whom alsoG2532 bearing witnessG3140 he saidG3004, I have foundG2147 DavidG1138, the son of JesseG2421, a manG435 after my heartG2588, who shall do all my will. 23Of this man's seedG4690 accordingG2596 to promiseG1860 has 6GodG2316 broughtG71 to IsraelG2474 a Saviour, JesusG2424; 24JohnG2491 having proclaimed before the faceG4383 of his entry [among the peopleG2992] [the] baptismG908 of repentanceG3341 to all the peopleG2992 of IsraelG2474. 25And as JohnG2491 wasG1510 fulfilling his courseG1408 he saidG3004, Whom do ye suppose that I amG1510? I amG1510 not [he]. But beholdG2400, there comesG2064 oneG3739 after me, the sandalG5266 of whose feetG4228 I amG1510 not worthyG514 to looseG3089. 26Brethren, sonsG5207 of Abraham's raceG1085, and those who among you fearG5399 7GodG2316, to you has the wordG3056 of this salvationG4991 been sent: 27for those who dwellG2730 in JerusalemG2419, and their rulersG758, not having known him, have fulfilled alsoG2532 the voicesG5456 of the prophetsG4396 which are readG314 on every sabbathG4521, [by] judgingG2919 [him]. 28And having foundG2147 no causeG156 of deathG2288 [in him], they begged of PilateG4091 that he might be slain. 29And whenG5613 they had fulfilled all thingsG3956 writtenG1125 concerningG4012 him, they took him downG5087 from the cross and putG5087 him in a sepulchre; 30but 8GodG2316 raisedG1453 him from among [the] deadG3498, 31who appeared for manyG4183 daysG2250 to those who had come up with him from GalileeG1056 to JerusalemG2419, who areG1510 nowG3568 his witnessesG3144 to the peopleG2992. 32And we declare unto you the glad tidings of the promiseG1860 made to the fathersG3962, 33that 9GodG2316 has fulfilled this to us their childrenG5043, having raisedG450 up JesusG2424; as it isG1510 alsoG2532 writtenG1125 in the secondG1208 psalmG5568, Thou art my SonG5207: this dayG4594 have I begotten thee. 34But that he raisedG450 him from among [the] deadG3498, no moreG3371 to returnG5290 to corruption, he spokeG3004 thusG3779: I will giveG1325 to you the faithfulG4103 mercies of DavidG1138. 35Wherefore alsoG2532 he saysG3004 in another, Thou wilt not suffer thy gracious oneG3588 to seeG3708 corruption. 36For DavidG1138 indeed, having in his ownG2398 generationG1074 ministered to the will of 10GodG2316, fell asleepG2837, and was addedG4369 to his fathersG3962 and sawG3708 corruption. 37But he whom 11GodG2316 raisedG1453 up did not seeG3708 corruption. 38BeG1510 it known unto you, thereforeG3767, brethren, that through this manG435 remission of sinsG266 isG1510 preached to you, 39and from all thingsG3778 from which ye could not be justifiedG1344 in the lawG3551 of MosesG3475, in him every oneG3739 that believesG4100 is justifiedG1344. 40SeeG991 thereforeG3767 that that which is spoken in the prophetsG4396 do not comeG1904 upon [you], 41Behold, ye despisers, and wonderG2296 and perish; for I workG2041 a workG2041 in your daysG2250, a workG2041 which ye will in no wise believeG4100 if oneG5100 declare it to you. 42And as they went out they begged that these words might be spokenG2980 to them the ensuing sabbathG4521. 43And the congregation of the synagogueG4864 having brokenG3089 up, manyG4183 of the JewsG2453 and of the worshipping proselytes followedG190 PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921, who speaking to them, persuadedG3982 them to continue in the graceG5485 of 12GodG2316. 44And on the comingG2064 sabbathG4521 almostG4975 all the cityG4172 was gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 to hearG191 the wordG3056 of 13God. 45But the JewsG2453, seeingG3708 the crowdsG3793, were filledG4130 with envy, and contradicted the things saidG2980 by PaulG3972, [contradictingG483 and] speakingG2980 injuriously. 46And PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921 spokeG2980 boldlyG3955 and saidG3004, It wasG1510 necessaryG316 that the wordG3056 of 14GodG2316 should beG1510 firstG4413 spokenG2980 to you; but, since ye thrust it from you, and judgeG2919 yourselves unworthy of eternalG166 lifeG2222, lo, we turnG4762 to the nationsG1484; 47for thusG3779 has the LordG2962 enjoined us: I have setG5087 thee for a lightG5457 of the nationsG1484, that thou shouldest beG1510 for salvationG4991 to the end of the earthG1093. 48And [those of] the nationsG1484, hearingG191 it, rejoicedG5463, and glorifiedG1392 the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, and believedG4100, as manyG3745 as wereG1510 ordained to eternalG166 lifeG2222. 49And the wordG3056 of the LordG2962 was carried through the wholeG3650 countryG5561. 50But the JewsG2453 excited the womenG1135 of the upper classes who were worshippers, and the firstG4413 people of the cityG4172, and raised a persecutionG1375 against PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921, and castG1544 them out of their coasts. 51But they, having shaken off the dustG2868 of their feetG4228 against them, cameG2064 to IconiumG2430. 52And the disciplesG3101 were filledG4137 with joyG5479 and [the] HolyG40 SpiritG4151.
