Acts 28
Darby Bible
1And when we got safe [to land] we then knewG1921 that the islandG3520 was calledG2564 Melita. 2But the barbarians shewed us no common kindness; for, having kindled a fireG4443, they took us all in because of the rainG5205 that was falling and because of the coldG5592. 3And PaulG3972 having gathered a [certainG5100] quantity of sticks together in a bundle and laidG2007 [it] on the fireG4443, a viperG2191 comingG1831 out from the heat seized his handG5495. 4And whenG5613 the barbarians sawG3708 the beastG2342 hangingG2910 from his handG5495, they saidG3004 to oneG240 another, This manG444 isG1510 certainly a murdererG5406, whom, [though] savedG1295 out of the seaG2281, Nemesis has not allowedG1439 to liveG2198. 5He however, having shaken off the beastG2342 into the fireG4442, felt no harmG2556. 6But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen downG2667 suddenlyG869 deadG3498. But when they had expected a long time and sawG2334 nothingG3367 unusual happenG1096 to him, changing their opinion, they saidG3004 he wasG1510 a 1godG2316. 7NowG1161 in the country surrounding that placeG5117 were the landsG5564 belonging to the chief man of the islandG3520, by nameG3686 PubliusG4196, who received us and gave [us] hospitality threeG5140 daysG2250 in a veryG1565 friendly way. 8And it happenedG1096 that the fatherG3962 of PubliusG4196 lay ill of feverG4446 and dysentery; to whom PaulG3972 enteredG1525 in, and having prayedG4336 and laidG2007 his handsG5495 on him cured him. 9But this having taken placeG1096, the restG3062 alsoG2532 who had sicknessesG769 in the islandG3520 cameG4334 and were healedG2323: 10who alsoG2532 honoured us with manyG4183 honours, and on our leaving they made presents to us of what should minister to our wants. 11And after threeG5140 monthsG3376 we sailed in a shipG4143 which had winteredG3914 in the islandG3520, an Alexandrian, with [the] Dioscuri for its ensign. 12And having come to Syracuse we remained threeG5140 daysG2250. 13Whence, going in a circuitous course, we arrived at Rhegium; and after oneG1520 dayG2250, the windG3558 having changed to southG3558, on the second dayG2250 we cameG2064 to Puteoli, 14whereG3757, having foundG2147 brethren, we were begged to stay with them sevenG2033 daysG2250. And thusG3779 we went to RomeG4516. 15And thence the brethren, having heardG191 about us, cameG2064 to meetG529 us as farG891 as Appii Forum and Tres Tabernae, whom when PaulG3972 sawG3708, he thankedG2168 2GodG2316 and tookG2983 courage. 16And whenG3753 we cameG1525 to RomeG4516, [the centurion delivered up the prisoners to the praetorian prefect, but] PaulG3972 was allowedG2010 to remainG3306 by himself with the soldierG4757 who keptG5442 him. 17And it cameG1096 to passG1096 after threeG5140 daysG2250, that he called togetherG4905 those who wereG1510 the chief of the JewsG2453; and when they had comeG1096 togetherG4905 he saidG3004 to them, Brethren, I having done nothing against the peopleG2992 or the customsG1485 of our forefathers, have beenG1510 deliveredG3860 a prisonerG1198 from JerusalemG2414 into the handsG5495 of the RomansG4514, 18who having examined me were minded to let me goG630, because there was nothingG3367 worthy of deathG2288 in me. 19But the JewsG2453 speaking against it, I was compelledG315 to appealG1941 to CaesarG2541, not as having anythingG5100 to accuseG2723 my nationG1484 of. 20For this causeG156 thereforeG3767 I have called you to [me] to seeG3708 and to speak to you; for on accountG1223 of the hopeG1680 of IsraelG2474 I have this chainG254 about me. 21And they saidG3004 to him, For our part, we have neither receivedG1209 lettersG1121 from Judaea concerningG4012 thee, nor has any oneG5100 of the brethren who has arrived reportedG518 or saidG3004 anythingG5100 evilG4190 concerningG4012 thee. 22But we beg to hearG191 of thee what thou thinkest, for as concerningG4012 this sectG139 it isG1510 known to us that it isG1510 everywhereG3837 spokenG483 against. 23And having appointedG5021 him a dayG2250 manyG4183 cameG2064 to him to the lodging, to whom he expounded, testifyingG1263 of the kingdomG932 of 3GodG2316, and persuadingG3982 them concerningG4012 JesusG2424, both from the lawG3551 of MosesG3475 and the prophetsG4396, from earlyG4404 morningG4404 to eveningG2073. 24And some were persuadedG3982 of the things which were saidG3004, but some disbelieved. 25And beingG1510 disagreed among themselves they left; PaulG3972 having spokenG2980 oneG1520 word, WellG2573 spokeG2980 the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 through Esaias the prophetG4396 to our fathersG3962, 26sayingG3004, GoG4198 to this peopleG2992, and sayG3004, HearingG191 ye shall hearG191 and not understandG4920, and seeingG3708 ye shall seeG3708 and not perceive. 27For the heartG2588 of this peopleG2992 has become fat, and they hearG191 heavily with their earsG3775, and they have closed their eyesG3788; lest they should seeG3708 with their eyesG3788, and hearG191 with their earsG3775, and understandG4920 with their heartG2588, and be converted, and I should healG2390 them. 28BeG1510 it known to you thereforeG3767, that this salvation of 4GodG2316 has beenG1510 sentG649 to the nationsG1484; they alsoG2532 will hearG191 [it]. 29[And he having said this, the Jews went away, having great reasoning among themselves.] 30And he remained twoG1333 wholeG3650 yearsG1333 in his ownG2398 hired lodging, and received all who came to him, 31preachingG2784 the kingdomG932 of 5GodG2316, and teachingG1321 the thingsG3956 concerningG4012 the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, with all freedom unhinderedly.
