Acts 25
Darby Bible
1FestusG5347 thereforeG3767, being comeG305 into the eparchy, after threeG5140 daysG2250 wentG305 up to JerusalemG2414 from CaesareaG2542. 2And the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the chiefG749 of the JewsG2453 laid informations before him against PaulG3972, and besought him, 3askingG154 as a graceG5485 against him that he would sendG3343 for him to JerusalemG2419, laying people in wait to kill him on the wayG3598. 4FestusG5347 thereforeG3767 answeredG611 that PaulG3972 should be keptG5083 at CaesareaG2542, and that he himself was about to set out shortly. 5Let thereforeG3767 the persons of authority among you, saysG5346 he, going down too, if there beG1510 anythingG5100 in this manG435, accuseG2723 him. 6And having remained among them not moreG4183 than eightG3638 or tenG1176 daysG2250, he wentG2597 downG2597 to CaesareaG2542; and on the nextG1887 dayG2250, having satG2523 downG2597 on the judgment-seat, commandedG2753 PaulG3972 to be broughtG71. 7And when he was comeG2597, the JewsG2453 who were comeG2597 down from JerusalemG2414 stood round, bringing manyG4183 and grievous charges which they were not ableG2480 to prove: 8PaulG3972 answering for himself, Neither against the lawG3551 of the JewsG2453, nor against the templeG2411, nor against CaesarG2541, have I offended [in] anythingG5100. 9But FestusG5347, desirous of obliging the JewsG2453, to acquire their favour, answeringG611 PaulG3972, saidG3004, Art thou willingG2309 to goG305 up to JerusalemG2414, there to be judgedG2919 before me concerningG4012 these thingsG3778? 10But PaulG3972 saidG3004, I amG1510 standingG2476 before the judgment-seat of CaesarG2541, whereG3757 I oughtG1163 to beG1510 judgedG2919. To the JewsG2453 have I done no wrongG91, as thou alsoG2532 very well knowest. 11If then I have done any wrongG91 and committed anythingG5100 worthyG514 of deathG2288, I do not deprecate dyingG599; but if there isG1510 nothing of those thingsG3778 of which they accuseG2723 me, no manG3778 can give me up to them. I appealG1941 to CaesarG2541. 12ThenG5119 FestusG5347, having conferred with the council, answeredG611, Thou hast appealedG1941 to CaesarG2541. To CaesarG2541 shalt thou goG4198. 13And when certainG5100 daysG2250 had elapsed, AgrippaG67 the kingG935 and BerniceG959 arrived at CaesareaG2542 to salute FestusG5347. 14And whenG5613 they had spent manyG4183 daysG2250 there, FestusG5347 laid before the kingG935 the matters relating to PaulG3972, sayingG3004, There isG1510 a certainG5100 manG435 leftG2641 prisonerG1198 by FelixG5344, 15concerningG4012 whom, when I was at JerusalemG2414, the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the eldersG4245 of the JewsG2453 laid informations, requiring judgment against him: 16to whom I answeredG611, It isG1510 not [the] customG1485 of the RomansG4514 to give up any manG444 before that the accusedG2723 have the accusersG2725 faceG4383 to faceG4383, and he have got opportunityG5117 of defence touching the charge. 17When thereforeG3767 they had comeG4905 togetherG4905 hereG1759, without putting it off, I satG2523 the nextG1836 dayG1836 on the judgment-seat and commandedG2753 the manG435 to be broughtG71: 18concerningG4012 whom the accusersG2725, standingG2476 up, broughtG5342 no such accusation of guiltG156 as I supposed; 19but had against him certainG5100 questionsG2213 of their ownG2398 system of worship, and concerningG4012 a certainG5100 JesusG2424 who is dead, whom PaulG3972 affirmed to be livingG2198. 20And as I myself was at a loss as to an inquiry into these thingsG3778, I saidG3004, Was he willingG1014 to goG4198 to JerusalemG2414 and there to be judgedG2919 concerningG4012 these thingsG3778? 21But PaulG3972 having appealedG1941 to be keptG5083 for the cognisance of Augustus, I commandedG2753 him to be keptG5083 till I shall send him to CaesarG2541. 22And AgrippaG67 [saidG5346] to FestusG5347, I myself alsoG2532 would desire to hearG191 the manG444. To-morrow, saidG5346 he, thou shalt hearG191 him. 23On the morrow thereforeG3767, AgrippaG67 being comeG2064, and BerniceG959, with greatG4183 pomp, and having enteredG1525 into the hall of audience, with the chiliarchs and the menG435 of distinction of the cityG4172, and FestusG5347 having given commandG2753, PaulG3972 was broughtG71. 24And FestusG5347 saidG5346, KingG935 AgrippaG67, and all menG435 who are hereG1759 present with us, ye seeG2334 this person, concerningG4012 whom all the multitudeG4128 of the JewsG2453 applied to me both in JerusalemG2414 and hereG1759, cryingG994 out against [him] that he oughtG1163 not to liveG2198 any longerG3371. 25But I, having found that he had done nothingG3367 worthyG514 of deathG2288, and this [manG3778] himself having appealedG1941 to Augustus, I have decided to sendG3992 him; 26concerningG4012 whom I have nothing certainG5100 to writeG1125 to my lordG2962. Wherefore I have broughtG4254 him before you, and specially before thee, kingG935 AgrippaG67, so that an examination having been gone into I may have somethingG5100 to writeG1125: 27for it seemsG1380 to me senseless, sendingG3992 a prisonerG1198, not alsoG2532 to signify the chargesG156 against him.
