Matthew 26
American Standard Version
1And it cameG1096 to passG1096, whenG3753 JesusG2424 had finishedG5055 all these wordsG3056, he saidG3004 unto his disciplesG3101, 2Ye know that after twoG1417 daysG2250 the passoverG3957 cometh, and the SonG5207 of manG444 is deliveredG3860 up to be crucifiedG4717. 3Then were gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 the chiefG749 priestsG749, and the eldersG4245 of the peopleG2992, unto the courtG833 of the highG749 priestG749, who was called CaiaphasG2533; 4and they tookG2902 counsel togetherG4823 that they might takeG2902 JesusG2424 by subtlety, and killG615 him. 5But they saidG3004, Not during the feastG1859, lestG3361 a tumult arise among the peopleG2992.
6NowG1161 when JesusG2424 was in BethanyG963, in the houseG3614 of SimonG4613 the leperG3015, 7there cameG4334 unto him a womanG1135 having an alabasterG211 cruse of exceeding preciousG4186 ointment, and she pouredG2708 it upon his headG2776, as he sat at meat. 8But when the disciplesG3101 sawG3708 it, they had indignation, sayingG3004, To what purpose is this wasteG684? 9For this ointment might have been sold for muchG4183, and givenG1325 to the poorG4434. 10But JesusG2424 perceiving it saidG3004 unto them, WhyG5101 trouble ye the womanG1135? for she hath wrought a goodG2570 workG2041 upon me. 11For ye have the poorG4434 alwaysG3842 with you; but me ye have not alwaysG3842. 12For in that she pouredG906 this ointment upon my bodyG4983, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13Verily I sayG3004 unto you, Wheresoever this gospelG2098 shall be preachedG2784 in the wholeG3650 worldG2889, that alsoG2532 which this woman hath done shall be spokenG2980 of for a memorialG3422 of her.
14ThenG5119 oneG1520 of the twelveG1427, who was called JudasG2455 IscariotG2469, wentG4198 unto the chiefG749 priestsG749, 15and saidG3004, What are ye willingG2309 to giveG1325 me, and I will deliverG3860 him unto you? And they weighed unto him thirtyG5144 pieces of silverG694. 16And from that timeG5119 he soughtG2212 opportunityG2120 to deliverG3860 him unto them.
17NowG1161 on the firstG4413dayof unleavenedG106 bread the disciplesG3101 cameG4334 to JesusG2424, sayingG3004, WhereG4226 wilt thou that we makeG2090 readyG2090 for thee to eatG2068 the passoverG3957? 18And he saidG3004, GoG5217 into the cityG4172 to such a man, and sayG3004 unto him, The TeacherG1320 saith, My timeG2540 isG1510 at hand; I keep the passoverG3957 at thy house with my disciplesG3101. 19And the disciplesG3101 did as JesusG2424 appointed them; and they madeG4160 readyG2090 the passoverG3957.
20NowG1161 when even was comeG1096, he was sitting at meat with the twelveG1427 disciplesG3101; 21and as they were eatingG2068, he saidG3004, Verily I sayG3004 unto you, that oneG1520 of you shall betrayG3860 me. 22And they wereG1510 exceeding sorrowfulG3076, and beganG757 to sayG3004 unto him every oneG1520, IsG1510 it I, LordG2962? 23And he answeredG611 and saidG3004, He that dipped his handG5495 with me in the dish, the same shall betrayG3860 me. 24The SonG5207 of manG444 goeth, even as it isG1510 writtenG1125 of him: but woeG3759 unto that manG444 through whom the SonG5207 of manG444 isG1510 betrayedG3860! goodG2570 wereG1510 it for that manG444 if he had not beenG1510 bornG1080. 25And JudasG2455, who betrayedG3860 him, answeredG611 and saidG3004, IsG1510 it I, RabbiG4461? He saith unto him, Thou hast saidG3004.
26And as they wereG1510 eatingG2068, JesusG2424 tookG2983 breadG740, and blessedG2127, and brake it; and he gaveG1325 to the disciplesG3101, and saidG3004, TakeG2983, eatG2068; this isG1510 my bodyG4983. 27And he tookG2983 a cupG4221, and gaveG1325 thanksG2168, and gaveG1325 to them, sayingG3004, DrinkG4095 ye all of it; 28for this isG1510 my bloodG129 of the covenantG1242, which isG1510 poured out for manyG4183 unto remission of sinsG266. 29But I sayG3004 unto you, I shall not drinkG4095 henceforth of this fruit of the vineG288, until that dayG2250 whenG3752 I drinkG4095 it newG2537 with you in my Father’s kingdomG932.
30And when they had sung a hymnG5214, they wentG1831 out into the mountG3735 of Olives.
31Then saith JesusG2424 unto them, All ye shall be offendedG4624 in me this nightG3571: for it is writtenG1125, I will smite the shepherdG4166, and the sheepG4263 of the flockG4167 shall be scatteredG1287 abroad. 32But after I am raisedG1453 up, I will goG4254 before you into GalileeG1056. 33But PeterG4074 answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto him, If all shall be offendedG4624 in thee, I will neverG3763 be offendedG4624. 34JesusG2424 saidG3004 unto him, Verily I sayG3004 unto thee, that this nightG3571, before the cock crowG5455, thou shalt denyG533 me thrice. 35PeterG4074 saith unto him, EvenG2532 if I must dieG599 with thee, yet will I not denyG533 thee. LikewiseG3668 alsoG2532 saidG3004 all the disciplesG3101.
36Then cometh JesusG2424 with them unto a place called GethsemaneG1068, and saith unto his disciplesG3101, SitG2523 ye here, while I goG565 yonder and prayG4336. 37And he tookG3880 with him PeterG4074 and the twoG1417 sonsG5207 of ZebedeeG2199, and beganG757 to be sorrowfulG3076 and sore troubled. 38Then saith he unto them, My soulG5590 isG1510 exceeding sorrowful, evenG2532 unto deathG2288: abideG3306 ye hereG5602, and watchG1127 with me. 39And he went forwardG4334 a littleG3398, and fellG4098 on his faceG4383, and prayedG4336, sayingG3004, My FatherG3962, if it beG1510 possibleG1415, let this cupG4221 passG3928 awayG3928 from me: neverthelessG4133, not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40And he cometh unto the disciplesG3101, and findeth them sleepingG2518, and saith unto PeterG4074, What, could ye not watchG1127 with me oneG1520 hourG5610? 41WatchG1127 and prayG4336, that ye enterG1525 not into temptationG3986: the spiritG4151 indeed is willingG4289, but the fleshG4561 is weakG772. 42AgainG3825 a secondG1208 timeG1208 he wentG565 awayG565, and prayedG4336, sayingG3004, My FatherG3962, if this cannot passG3928 awayG565, except I drinkG4095 it, thy will be done. 43And he cameG2064 againG3825 and foundG2147 them sleepingG2518, for their eyesG3788 wereG1510 heavy. 44And he leftG863 them againG3825, and wentG565 awayG565, and prayedG4336 a thirdG5154 timeG5154, sayingG3004 againG3825 the sameG846 wordsG3056. 45Then cometh he to the disciplesG3101, and saith unto them, SleepG2518 on now, and take your restG373: beholdG2400, the hourG5610 is at handG5495, and the SonG5207 of manG444 is betrayedG3860 into the handsG5495 of sinnersG268. 46AriseG1453, let us be goingG71: beholdG2400, he is at hand that betrayeth me.
47And while he yet spake, lo, JudasG2455, oneG1520 of the twelveG1427, cameG2064, and with him a greatG4183 multitudeG3793 with swordsG3162 and staves, from the chiefG749 priestsG749 and eldersG4245 of the peopleG2992. 48NowG1161 he that betrayedG3860 him gaveG1325 them a signG4592, sayingG3004, Whomsoever I shall kissG5368, that isG1510 he: takeG2902 him. 49And straightway he cameG4334 to JesusG2424, and saidG3004, HailG5463, RabbiG4461; and kissed him. 50And JesusG2424 saidG3004 unto him, FriendG2083, do that for which thou art comeG4334. Then they cameG4334 and laidG1911 handsG5495 on JesusG2424, and tookG2902 him. 51And beholdG2400, oneG1520 of them that were with JesusG2424 stretchedG1614 out his handG5495, and drew his swordG3162, and smote the servantG1401 of the highG749 priestG749, and struckG3960 off his earG5621. 52ThenG5119 saith JesusG2424 unto him, Put up again thy swordG3162 into its placeG5117: for all they that takeG2983 the swordG3162 shall perishG622 with the swordG3162. 53Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my FatherG3962, and he shall evenG2532 now send me moreG4183 than twelveG1427 legionsG3003 of angelsG32? 54HowG4459 thenG3767 should the scripturesG1124 be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55In that hourG5610 saidG3004 JesusG2424 to the multitudesG3793, Are ye comeG1831 out as against a robberG3027 with swordsG3162 and staves to seizeG2902 me? I sat daily in the temple teachingG1321, and ye tookG2902 me not. 56But all this is comeG1096 to passG1096, that the scripturesG1124 of the prophetsG4396 might be fulfilled. ThenG5119 all the disciplesG3101 leftG863 him, and fledG5343.
57And they that had taken JesusG2424 ledG520 him awayG520 to the house of CaiaphasG2533 the highG749 priestG749, whereG3699 the scribesG1122 and the eldersG4245 were gatheredG4863 togetherG4863. 58But PeterG4074 followedG190 him afar off, unto the courtG833 of the highG749 priestG749, and enteredG1525 in, and satG2521 with the officersG5257, to seeG3708 the endG5056. 59NowG1161 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the wholeG3650 councilG4892 soughtG2212 false witness against JesusG2424, that they might putG2289 him to deathG2289; 60and they foundG2147 it not, though manyG4183 false witnesses cameG4334. But afterward cameG4334 twoG1417, 61and saidG3004, This manG3778 saidG3004, I am ableG1410 to destroyG2647 the templeG3485 of GodG2316, and to buildG3618 it in threeG5140 daysG2250. 62And the highG749 priestG749 stoodG450 up, and saidG3004 unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 63But JesusG2424 held his peace. And the highG749 priestG749 saidG3004 unto him, I adjure thee by the livingG2198 GodG2316, that thou tellG3004 us whether thou art the ChristG5547, the SonG5207 of GodG2316. 64JesusG2424 saith unto him, Thou hast saidG3004: neverthelessG4133 I sayG3004 unto you, Henceforth ye shall seeG3708 the SonG5207 of manG444 sittingG2521 at the rightG1188 handG1188 of PowerG1411, and comingG2064 on the cloudsG3507 of heavenG3772. 65ThenG5119 the highG749 priestG749 rent his garmentsG2440, sayingG3004, He hath spoken blasphemyG988: what further needG5532 have we of witnessesG3144? beholdG2396, nowG3568 ye have heardG191 the blasphemyG988: 66what thinkG1380 ye? They answeredG611 and saidG3004, He isG1510 worthy of deathG2288. 67Then did they spitG1716 in his faceG4383 and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, 68sayingG3004, ProphesyG4395 unto us, thou ChristG5547: who isG1510 he that struck thee?
69NowG1161 PeterG4074 wasG1510 sittingG2521 without in the courtG833: and a maid cameG4334 unto him, sayingG3004, Thou alsoG2532 wast with JesusG2424 the Galilæan. 70But he deniedG720 before them all, sayingG3004, I know not what thou sayest. 71And when he wasG1510 goneG1831 out into the porch, another maid sawG3708 him, and saith unto them that wereG1510 there, This manG3778 alsoG2532 wasG1510 with JesusG2424 of NazarethG3480. 72And againG3825 he deniedG720 with an oathG3727, I know not the manG444. 73And after a littleG3398 while they that stoodG2476 by cameG4334 and saidG3004 to PeterG4074, Of a truth thou alsoG2532 art oneG3588 of them; for thy speech maketh thee known. 74Then beganG757 he to curse and to swearG3660, I know not the manG444. And straightway the cock crew. 75And PeterG4074 rememberedG3403 the word which JesusG2424 had saidG3004, Before the cock crowG5455, thou shalt denyG533 me thrice. And he wentG1831 out, and weptG2799 bitterlyG4090.
