James 1

1JamesG2385, a servantG1401 of GodG2316 and of the LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, to the twelveG1427 tribesG5443 which are of the DispersionG1290, greetingG5463.

2Count it all joyG5479, my brethren, whenG3752 ye fall into manifold temptations; 3knowingG1097 that the proving of your faithG4102 worketh patience. 4And let patience have its perfectG5046 workG2041, that ye may beG1510 perfectG5046 and entire, lackingG3007 in nothingG3367.

5But if any of you lacketh wisdomG4678, let him askG154 of GodG2316, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be givenG1325 him. 6But let him askG154 in faithG4102, nothingG3367 doubtingG1252: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the seaG2281 driven by the wind and tossed. 7For let not that manG444 think that he shall receiveG2983 anythingG5100 of the LordG2962; 8a doubleminded manG435, unstable in all his waysG3598.

9But let the brotherG80 of low degree glory in his highG5311 estate: 10and the richG4145, in that he is made low: because as the flowerG438 of the grassG5528 he shall passG3928 awayG3928. 11For the sunG2246 ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grassG5528; and the flowerG438 thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so alsoG2532 shall the richG4145 manG4145 fade awayG3583 in his goings.

12Blessed is the manG435 that endureth temptationG3986; for whenG1096 he hath been approved, he shall receiveG2983 the crownG4735 of lifeG2222, which the Lord promisedG1861 to them that loveG25 him. 13Let no man sayG3004 when he isG1510 temptedG3985, I amG1510 temptedG3985 of GodG2316; for GodG2316 cannot beG1510 temptedG3985 with evilG2556, and he himself tempteth no man: 14but each manG1538 is temptedG3985, when he is drawn away by his ownG2398 lustG1939, and enticed. 15ThenG1161 the lustG1939, when it hath conceived, beareth sinG266: and the sinG266, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forthG616 deathG2288. 16Be not deceivedG4105, my belovedG27 brethren. 17Every goodG18 giftG1434 and every perfectG5046 giftG1434 isG1510 from above, comingG2597 downG2597 from the FatherG3962 of lightsG5457, with whom can beG1510 no variation, neither shadow that isG1510 cast by turning. 18Of his own will he brought us forthG616 by the wordG3056 of truthG225, that we should beG1510 a kind of firstfruits of his creaturesG2938.

19Ye knowthis, my belovedG27 brethren. But let every manG444 beG1510 swift to hearG191, slowG1021 to speakG2980, slowG1021 to wrathG3709: 20for the wrathG3709 of manG435 worketh not the righteousnessG1343 of GodG2316. 21Wherefore puttingG659 away all filthiness and overflowing of wickednessG2549, receiveG1209 with meekness the implanted wordG3056, which is ableG1410 to saveG4982 your soulsG5590. 22But be ye doersG4163 of the wordG3056, and not hearersG202 onlyG3440, deluding your ownG1438 selves. 23For if any oneG5100 isG1510 a hearerG202 of the wordG3056 and not a doerG4163, he isG1510 like unto a manG435 beholding his natural faceG4383 in a mirror: 24for he beholdeth himself, and goeth awayG565, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he wasG1510. 25But he that looketh into the perfectG5046 lawG3551, the lawG3551 of liberty, and so continueth, beingG1510 not a hearerG202 that forgetteth but a doerG4163 that worketh, this manG3778 shall beG1510 blessed in his doing. 26If any manG3778 thinketh himself to beG1510 religious, while he bridleth not his tongueG1100 but deceiveth his heartG2588, this man’s religionG2356 isG1510 vain. 27PureG2513 religionG2356 and undefiledG283 before our GodG2316 and FatherG3962 isG1510 this, to visitG1980 the fatherless and widowsG5503 in their afflictionG2347, and to keepG5083 oneself unspotted from the worldG2889.
