Matthew 6
American Standard Version
1TakeG4337 heed that ye do not your righteousnessG1343 before menG444, to be seenG2300 of them: else ye have no rewardG3408 with your FatherG3962 who is in heavenG3772.
2WhenG3752 thereforeG3767 thou doest almsG1654, soundG4537 not a trumpetG4537 before thee, as the hypocritesG5273 do in the synagoguesG4864 and in the streetsG4505, that they may have glory of menG444. Verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have received their rewardG3408. 3But when thou doest almsG1654, let not thy left handG1188 knowG1097 what thy rightG1188 handG1188 doeth: 4that thine almsG1654 may beG1510 in secretG2927: and thy FatherG3962 who seeth in secretG2927 shall recompense thee.
5And whenG3752 ye prayG4336, ye shall not beG1510 as the hypocritesG5273: for they loveG5368 to standG2476 and prayG4336 in the synagoguesG4864 and in the cornersG1137 of the streetsG4116, that they may beG1510 seen of menG444. Verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have received their rewardG3408. 6But thou, whenG3752 thou prayest, enterG1525 into thine innerG5009 chamber, and having shutG2808 thy doorG2374, prayG4336 to thy FatherG3962 who is in secretG2927, and thy FatherG3962 who seeth in secretG2927 shall recompense thee. 7And in prayingG4336 use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they thinkG1380 that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not thereforeG3767 like unto them: for your FatherG3962 knoweth what thingsG3739 ye have needG5532 of, before ye askG154 him. 9After this mannerG3779 thereforeG3767 prayG4336 ye: Our FatherG3962 who art in heavenG3772, HallowedG37 be thy nameG3686. 10Thy kingdomG932 comeG2064. Thy will be done, as in heavenG3772, so on earthG1093. 11GiveG1325 us this dayG4594 our dailyG1967 breadG740. 12And forgiveG863 us our debts, as we alsoG2532 have forgivenG863 our debtorsG3781. 13And bringG1533 us not into temptationG3986, but deliverG4506 us from the evilG4190 oneG3588. 14For if ye forgiveG863 menG444 their trespassesG3900, your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 will alsoG2532 forgiveG863 you. 15But if ye forgiveG863 not menG444 their trespassesG3900, neither will your FatherG3962 forgiveG863 your trespassesG3900.
16Moreover whenG3752 ye fastG3522, be not, as the hypocritesG5273, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their facesG4383, that they may be seen of menG444 to fastG3522. Verily I sayG3004 unto you, They have received their rewardG3408. 17But thou, when thou fastest, anointG218 thy headG2776, and washG3538 thy faceG4383; 18that thou be not seenG991 of menG444 to fastG3522, but of thy FatherG3962 who is in secretG2927: and thy FatherG3962, who seeth in secretG2927, shall recompense thee.
19Lay not up for yourselvesG4771 treasuresG2344 upon the earthG1093, whereG3699 mothG4597 and rustG1035 consume, and whereG3699 thievesG2812 breakG1358 through and stealG2813: 20but lay up for yourselvesG4771 treasuresG2344 in heavenG3772, whereG3699 neither mothG4597 nor rustG1035 doth consume, and whereG3699 thievesG2812 do not breakG1358 through nor stealG2813: 21for whereG3699 thy treasureG2344 isG1510, there will thy heartG2588 beG1510 alsoG2532. 22The lampG3088 of the bodyG4983 isG1510 the eyeG3788: if thereforeG3767 thine eyeG3788 beG1510 single, thy wholeG3650 bodyG4983 shall beG1510 full of lightG5460. 23But if thine eyeG3788 beG1510 evilG4190, thy wholeG3650 bodyG4983 shall beG1510 full of darknessG4655. If thereforeG3767 the lightG5457 that isG1510 in thee beG1510 darknessG4655, howG4214 great isG1510 the darknessG4655! 24No man can serveG1398 twoG1417 mastersG2962: for either he will hateG3404 the oneG1520, and loveG25 the otherG2087; or else he will hold to oneG1520, and despiseG2706 the otherG2087. Ye cannot serveG1398 GodG2316 and mammon. 25Therefore I sayG3004 unto you, BeG1510 not anxiousG3309 for your lifeG5590, what ye shall eatG2068, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your bodyG4983, what ye shall putG1746 on. IsG1510 not the lifeG5590 moreG4183 than the foodG5160, and the bodyG4983 than the raiment? 26Behold the birdsG4071 of the heavenG3772, that they sowG4687 not, neither do they reapG2325, nor gatherG4863 into barnsG596; and your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 feedeth them. Are not ye of much moreG3123 value than they? 27And which of you by being anxiousG3309 can addG4369 oneG1520 cubit unto the measure of his life? 28And whyG5101 are ye anxiousG3309 concerningG4012 raiment? Consider the liliesG2918 of the fieldG68, howG4459 they growG837; they toilG2872 not, neither do they spinG3514: 29yet I sayG3004 unto you, that evenG3761 SolomonG4672 in all his gloryG1391 was not arrayed like oneG1520 of these. 30But if GodG2316 doth so clothe the grassG5528 of the fieldG68, which to-day isG1510, and to-morrow isG1510 castG906 into the oven, shall he not muchG4183 moreG3123 clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Be not thereforeG3767 anxiousG3309, sayingG3004, What shall we eatG2068? or, What shall we drinkG4095? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32For after all these thingsG3778 do the GentilesG1484 seekG1934; for your heavenlyG3770 FatherG3962 knoweth that ye have needG5535 of all these thingsG3778. 33But seekG2212 ye firstG4413 his kingdomG932, and his righteousnessG1343; and all these thingsG3778 shall be addedG4369 unto you. 34Be not thereforeG3767 anxiousG3309 for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxiousG3309 for itself. SufficientG713 unto the dayG2250 is the evilG2549 thereof.
