Matthew 3
American Standard Version
1And in those daysG2250 cometh JohnG2491 the BaptistG910, preachingG2784 in the wildernessG2048 of Judæa, saying, 2RepentG3340 ye; for the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 is at hand. 3For this isG1510 he that wasG1510 spoken of through IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396, sayingG3004,
4NowG1161 JohnG2491 himself had his raiment of camel’sG2574 hairG2359, and a leathern girdle about his loinsG3751; and his foodG5160 wasG1510 locustsG200 and wildG66 honeyG3192. 5Then wentG1607 out unto him JerusalemG2414, and all Judæa, and all the regionG4066 round about the JordanG2446; 6and they were baptizedG907 of him in the riverG4215 JordanG2446, confessingG1843 their sinsG266. 7But when he sawG3708 manyG4183 of the PhariseesG5330 and SadduceesG4523 comingG2064 to his baptismG908, he saidG3004 unto them, Ye offspringG1081 of vipersG2191, who warned you to fleeG5343 from the wrathG3709 to comeG2064? 8Bring forth thereforeG3767 fruitG2590 worthyG514 of repentanceG3341: 9and thinkG1380 not to sayG3004 within yourselves, We have AbrahamG11 to our fatherG3962: for I sayG3004 unto you, that GodG2316 is ableG1410 of these stonesG3037 to raiseG1453 up childrenG5043 unto AbrahamG11. 10And evenG2532 nowG1161 the axe lieth at the rootG4491 of the treesG1186: every treeG1186 thereforeG3767 that bringeth not forth goodG2570 fruitG2590 is hewn downG1581, and castG906 into the fireG4442. 11I indeed baptizeG907 you in waterG5204 unto repentanceG3341: but he that cometh after me isG1510 mightierG2478 than I, whose shoes I amG1510 not worthyG2425 to bearG941: he shall baptizeG907 you in the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 and in fireG4442: 12whose fan is in his handG5495, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gatherG4863 his wheatG4621 into the garner, but the chaffG892 he will burnG2618 up with unquenchableG762 fireG4442.
13ThenG5119 cometh JesusG2424 from GalileeG1056 to the JordanG2446 unto JohnG2491, to be baptizedG907 of him. 14But JohnG2491 would have hindered him, sayingG3004, I have needG5532 to be baptizedG907 of thee, and comest thou to me? 15But JesusG2424 answeringG611 saidG3004 unto him, Suffer it nowG1161: for thusG3779 it becometh us to fulfil all righteousnessG1343. ThenG5119 he suffereth him. 16And JesusG2424, when he was baptizedG907, went up straightway from the waterG5204: and lo, the heavensG3772 were openedG455 unto him, and he sawG3708 the SpiritG4151 of GodG2316 descendingG2597 as a doveG4058, and comingG2064 upon him; 17and lo, a voiceG5456 out of the heavensG3772, sayingG3004, This isG1510 my belovedG27 SonG5207, in whom I amG1510 well pleased.
