Zechariah Chapter 1

American Standard Version

1In the eighthH8066 monthH2320, in the second yearH8141 of DariusH1867, came the wordH1697 of Jehovah unto ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of Berechiah, the sonH1121 of IddoH5714, the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 2Jehovah was sore displeased with your fathersH1. 3Therefore sayH559 thou unto them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: ReturnH7725 unto me, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, and I will returnH7725 unto you, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635. 4BeH1961 ye not as your fathersH1, unto whom the formerH7223 prophetsH5030 cried, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, ReturnH7725 ye now from your evilH7451 waysH1870, and from your evilH7451 doings: but they did not hearH8085, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah. 5Your fathersH1, whereH346 are they? and the prophetsH5030, do they liveH2421 for everH5769? 6But my wordsH1697 and my statutesH2706, which I commandedH6680 my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, did they not overtakeH5381 your fathersH1? and they turnedH7725 and saidH559, Like as Jehovah of hostsH6635 thought to do unto us, according to our waysH1870, and according to our doings, soH3651 hath he dealt with us.

7Upon the fourH702 and twentieth dayH3117 of the eleventh monthH2320, which is the monthH2320 Shebat, in the second yearH8141 of DariusH1867, came the wordH1697 of Jehovah unto ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of Berechiah, the sonH1121 of IddoH5714, the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 8I sawH7200 in the nightH3915, and, behold, a manH376 ridingH7392 upon a redH122 horseH5483, and he stoodH5975 among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horsesH5483, redH122, sorrel, and whiteH3836. 9Then saidH559 I, O my lordH113, what are these? And the angelH4397 that talked with me saidH559 unto me, I will showH7200 thee what these are. 10And the manH376 that stoodH5975 among the myrtle-trees answered and saidH559, These are they whom Jehovah hath sentH7971 to walkH1980 to and fro through the earthH776. 11And they answered the angelH4397 of Jehovah that stoodH5975 among the myrtle-trees, and saidH559, We have walkedH1980 to and fro through the earthH776, and, behold, all the earthH776 sitteth stillH5975, and is at rest.

12Then the angelH4397 of Jehovah answered and saidH559, O Jehovah of hostsH6635, how long wilt thou not have mercyH7355 on JerusalemH3389 and on the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten yearsH8141? 13And Jehovah answeredH6030 the angelH4397 that talked with me with goodH2896 wordsH1697, even comfortable wordsH1697. 14So the angelH4397 that talked with me saidH559 unto me, Cry thou, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: I am jealousH7065 for JerusalemH3389 and for ZionH6726 with a greatH1419 jealousyH7068. 15And I am very sore displeased with the nationsH1471 that are at easeH7600; for I was but a littleH4592 displeased, and they helpedH5826 forward the affliction. 16ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: I am returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389 with mercies; my houseH1004 shall be builtH1129 in it, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, and a line shall be stretchedH5186 forth over JerusalemH3389. 17Cry yetH5750 againH5750, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: My citiesH5892 shall yetH5750 overflowH6327 with prosperity; and Jehovah shall yetH5750 comfortH5162 ZionH6726, and shall yetH5750 chooseH977 JerusalemH3389.

18And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, four horns. 19And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. 20And Jehovah showed me four smiths. 21Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.
