Matthew 11
American Standard Version
1And it cameG1096 to passG1096 whenG3753 JesusG2424 had finishedG5055 commanding his twelveG1427 disciplesG3101, he departedG3327 thence to teachG1321 and preachG2784 in their citiesG4172.
2NowG1161 when JohnG2491 heardG191 in the prisonG1201 the worksG2041 of the ChristG5547, he sentG3992 by his disciplesG3101 3and saidG3004 unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or lookG4328 we for another? 4And JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto them, GoG4198 and tellG3004 JohnG2491 the thingsG3739 which ye hearG191 and seeG991: 5the blindG5185 receiveG308 their sightG308, and the lameG5560 walkG4043, the lepersG3015 are cleansedG2511, and the deafG2974 hearG191, and the deadG3498 are raisedG1453 up, and the poorG4434 have good tidings preached to them. 6And blessed isG1510 he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumblingG4624 in me.
7And as these wentG1831 their way, JesusG2424 beganG757 to sayG3004 unto the multitudesG3793 concerningG4012 JohnG2491, What wentG1831 ye out into the wildernessG2048 to behold? a reedG2563 shakenG4531 with the windG417? 8But what wentG1831 ye out to seeG3708? a manG444 clothed in soft raiment? BeholdG2400, they that wearG5409 soft raiment areG1510 in kings’G935 houses. 9But wherefore wentG1831 ye out? to seeG3708 a prophetG4396? Yea, I sayG3004 unto you, and much more than a prophetG4396. 10This isG1510 he, of whom it isG1510 writtenG1125,
11Verily I sayG3004 unto you, Among them that areG1510 born of womenG1135 there hath not arisenG1453 a greaterG3173 than JohnG2491 the BaptistG910: yet he that isG1510 but littleG3398 in the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 isG1510 greaterG3173 than he. 12And from the daysG2250 of JohnG2491 the BaptistG910 until nowG1161 the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. 13For all the prophetsG4396 and the lawG3551 prophesiedG4395 until JohnG2491. 14And if ye areG1510 willingG2309 to receiveG1209 it, this isG1510 ElijahG2243, that isG1510 to comeG2064. 15He that hath earsG3775 to hearG191, let him hearG191. 16But whereunto shall I liken this generationG1074? It isG1510 like unto childrenG3813 sittingG2521 in the marketplaces, who callG4377 unto their fellows 17and sayG3004, We piped unto you, and ye did not danceG3738; we wailed, and ye did not mournG2875. 18For JohnG2491 cameG2064 neither eatingG2068 nor drinkingG4095, and they sayG3004, He hath a demonG1140. 19The SonG5207 of manG444 cameG2064 eatingG2068 and drinkingG4095, and they sayG3004, BeholdG2400, a gluttonous manG444 and a winebibber, a friendG5384 of publicans and sinnersG268! And wisdomG4678 is justifiedG1344 by her worksG2041.
20ThenG5119 beganG757 he to upbraid the citiesG4172 wherein most of his mightyG1411 works were done, because they repentedG3340 not. 21WoeG3759 unto thee, ChorazinG5523! woeG3759 unto thee, BethsaidaG966! for if the mightyG1411 works had been done in TyreG5184 and SidonG4605 which were done in you, they would have repentedG3340 longG3819 agoG3819 in sackclothG4526 and ashesG4700. 22But I sayG3004 unto you, it shall beG1510 moreG414 tolerableG414 for TyreG5184 and SidonG4605 in the dayG2250 of judgmentG2920, than for you. 23And thou, CapernaumG2584, shalt thou be exaltedG5312 unto heavenG3772? thou shalt goG2597 down unto HadesG86: for if the mightyG1411 works had been done in SodomG4670 which were done in thee, it would have remainedG3306 until this dayG4594. 24But I sayG3004 unto you that it shall beG1510 moreG414 tolerableG414 for the landG1093 of SodomG4670 in the dayG2250 of judgmentG2920, than for thee.
25At that seasonG2540 JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004, I thank thee, O FatherG3962, LordG2962 of heavenG3772 and earthG1093, that thou didst hideG2928 these thingsG3778 from the wiseG4680 and understanding, and didst revealG601 them unto babes: 26yea, FatherG3962, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 27All thingsG3956 have been deliveredG3860 unto me of my FatherG3962: and no oneG3762 knoweth the SonG5207, save the FatherG3962; neither doth any knowG1921 the FatherG3962, save the SonG5207, and he to whomsoever the SonG5207 willeth to revealG601 him. 28ComeG1205 unto me, all ye that laborG2872 and are heavy laden, and I will give you restG373. 29TakeG142 my yokeG2218 upon you, and learnG3129 of me; for I amG1510 meek and lowly in heartG2588: and ye shall findG2147 restG372 unto your soulsG5590. 30For my yokeG2218 isG1510 easy, and my burdenG5413 isG1510 light.
