Isaiah Chapter 1
American Standard Version
1The visionH2377 of IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531, which he sawH2372 concerning JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, in the daysH3117 of UzziahH5818, JothamH3147, AhazH271, and HezekiahH2396, kingsH4428 of JudahH3063.
2HearH8085, O heavensH8064, and giveH238 earH238, O earthH776; for Jehovah hath spokenH1696: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelledH6586 against me. 3The oxH7794 knoweth his ownerH1167, and the ass his master’sH1167 crib; but IsraelH3478 doth not knowH3045, my peopleH5971 doth not considerH995. 4Ah sinful nationH1471, a peopleH5971 laden with iniquityH5771, a seedH2233 of evil-doers, children that deal corruptlyH7843! they have forsaken Jehovah, they have despised the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478, they are estranged and gone backwardH268. 5WhyH4100 will ye be stillH5750 stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole headH7218 is sick, and the whole heartH3824 faintH1742. 6From the soleH3709 of the footH7272 even unto the headH7218 there is no soundnessH4974 in it; but woundsH4347, and bruisesH6482, and freshH2961 stripes: they have not been closed, neither boundH2280 up, neither mollified with oilH8081. 7Your country is desolate; your citiesH5892 are burnedH8313 with fireH784; your landH776, strangersH2114 devourH398 it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangersH2114. 8And the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726 is leftH3498 as a boothH5521 in a vineyardH3754, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged cityH5892. 9Except Jehovah of hostsH6635 had leftH3498 unto us a very smallH4592 remnant, we should have beenH1961 as SodomH5467, we should have beenH1961 like unto GomorrahH6017.
10HearH8085 the wordH1697 of Jehovah, ye rulersH7101 of SodomH5467; giveH238 earH238 unto the lawH8451 of our GodH430, ye peopleH5971 of GomorrahH6017. 11What unto me is the multitudeH7230 of your sacrificesH2077? saith Jehovah: I have had enough of the burnt-offerings of ramsH352, and the fatH2459 of fed beasts; and I delightH2654 not in the bloodH1818 of bullocks, or of lambsH3532, or of he-goats. 12When ye comeH935 to appearH7200 before me, who hath requiredH1245 this at your handH3027, to trampleH7429 my courts? 13BringH935 no more vain oblations; incenseH7004 is an abominationH8441 unto me; newH2320 moonH2320 and sabbathH7676, the callingH7121 of assemblies,—I cannot away with iniquity and the solemnH6116 meeting. 14Your newH2320 moonsH2320 and your appointedH4150 feastsH4150 my soulH5315 hateth; they are a trouble unto me; I amH1961 wearyH3811 of bearingH5375 them. 15And when ye spreadH6566 forth your handsH3027, I will hideH5956 mine eyesH5869 from you; yea, when ye makeH8085 manyH7235 prayersH8605, I will not hearH8085: your handsH3027 are fullH4390 of bloodH1818. 16WashH7364 you, make you clean; put awayH5493 the evil of your doings from before mine eyesH5869; ceaseH2308 to do evil; 17learnH3925 to do wellH3190; seekH1875 justiceH4941, relieve the oppressed, judgeH8199 the fatherlessH3490, plead for the widowH490.
18Come now, and let us reason together, saith Jehovah: though your sinsH2399 beH1961 as scarletH8144, they shall beH1961 as whiteH3835 as snowH7950; though they beH1961 redH119 like crimsonH8438, they shall beH1961 as woolH6785. 19If ye be willingH14 and obedient, ye shall eatH398 the goodH2898 of the landH776: 20but if ye refuseH3985 and rebelH4784, ye shall be devouredH398 with the swordH2719; for the mouthH6310 of Jehovah hath spokenH1696 it.
21HowH349 is the faithfulH539 city becomeH1961 a harlot! she that wasH1961 fullH4395 of justiceH4941! righteousnessH6664 lodged in her, but nowH6258 murderersH7523. 22Thy silverH3701 is becomeH1961 dross, thy wine mixed with waterH4325. 23Thy princesH8269 are rebelliousH5637, and companionsH2270 of thievesH1590; every one loveth bribesH7810, and followeth after rewards: they judgeH8199 not the fatherlessH3490, neither doth the causeH7379 of the widowH490 comeH935 unto them.
24ThereforeH3651 saith the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, the MightyH46 OneH46 of IsraelH3478, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avengeH5358 me of mine enemiesH341; 25and I will turnH7725 my handH3027 upon thee, and thoroughly purge awayH5493 thy dross, and will take awayH5493 all thy tinH913; 26and I will restoreH7725 thy judgesH8199 as at the firstH7223, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be calledH7121 The cityH5892 of righteousnessH6664, a faithfulH539 townH7151. 27ZionH6726 shall be redeemedH6299 with justiceH4941, and her converts with righteousnessH6666. 28But the destructionH7667 of transgressorsH6586 and sinnersH2400 shall be togetherH3162, and they that forsakeH5800 Jehovah shall be consumed. 29For they shall be ashamedH954 of the oaksH352 which ye have desiredH2530, and ye shall be confounded for the gardensH1593 that ye have chosenH977. 30For ye shall beH1961 as an oakH424 whose leafH5929 fadeth, and as a gardenH1593 that hath no waterH4325. 31And the strongH2634 shall beH1961 as towH5296, and his workH6467 as a spark; and they shall both burnH1197 togetherH3162, and none shall quenchH3518 them.
