2 Samuel 1

1And it came to pass after the deathH4191 of SaulH7586, when DavidH1732 wasH1961 returnedH7725 from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and DavidH1732 had abode twoH8147 daysH3117 in ZiklagH6860; 2it cameH935 to pass on the thirdH7992 dayH3117, that, behold, a manH376 cameH935 out of the campH4264 from SaulH7586, with his clothesH899 rent, and earthH776 upon his headH7218: and so it wasH1961, when he cameH935 to DavidH1732, that he fellH5307 to the earthH776, and did obeisance. 3And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto him, From whence comest thou? And he saidH559 unto him, Out of the campH4264 of IsraelH3478 am I escapedH4422. 4And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto him, HowH4100 went the matterH1697? I pray thee, tellH5046 me. And he answered, The peopleH5971 are fledH5127 from the battleH4421, and manyH7235 of the peopleH5971 alsoH1571 are fallenH5307 and deadH4191; and SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 are deadH4191 alsoH1571. 5And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto the youngH5288 manH5288 that toldH5046 him, HowH349 knowest thou that SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 are deadH4191? 6And the youngH5288 manH5288 that toldH5046 him saidH559, As I happenedH7122 by chance upon mount GilboaH1533, behold, SaulH7586 was leaningH8172 upon his spearH2595; and, lo, the chariotsH7393 and the horsemenH6571 followed hard after him. 7And when he lookedH7200 behind him, he sawH7200 me, and calledH7121 unto me. And I answered, HereH2005 am I. 8And he saidH559 unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an AmalekiteH6003. 9And he saidH559 unto me, StandH5975, I pray thee, beside me, and slay me; for anguish hath takenH270 holdH270 of me, because my lifeH5315 is yetH5750 whole in me. 10So I stoodH5975 beside him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not liveH2421 after that he was fallenH5307: and I tookH3947 the crownH5145 that was upon his headH7218, and the bracelet that was on his armH2220, and have broughtH935 them hither unto my lordH113.

11Then DavidH1732 tookH2388 holdH2388 on his clothesH899, and rent them; and likewise all the menH376 that were with him: 12and they mournedH5594, and weptH1058, and fastedH6684 until even, for SaulH7586, and for JonathanH3083 his sonH1121, and for the peopleH5971 of Jehovah, and for the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; because they were fallenH5307 by the swordH2719. 13And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto the youngH5288 manH376 that toldH5046 him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the sonH1121 of a sojournerH1616, an AmalekiteH6003. 14And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto him, HowH349 wast thou not afraidH3372 to put forthH7971 thy handH3027 to destroyH7843 Jehovah’s anointedH4899? 15And DavidH1732 calledH7121 oneH259 of the youngH5288 menH5288, and saidH559, Go near, and fallH6293 upon him. And he smote him, so that he diedH4191. 16And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto him, Thy bloodH1818 be upon thy headH7218; for thy mouthH6310 hath testified against thee, sayingH559, I have slain Jehovah’s anointedH4899.

17And DavidH1732 lamented with this lamentationH7015 over SaulH7586 and over JonathanH3083 his sonH1121 18(and he bade them teachH3925 the children of JudahH3063 the song of the bowH7198: behold, it is writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of JasharH3477):

19Thy glory, O IsraelH3478, is slainH2491 upon thy highH1116 placesH1116!HowH349 are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307!20TellH5046 it not in GathH1661,Publish it not in the streetsH2351 of AshkelonH831;LestH6435 the daughtersH1323 of the PhilistinesH6430 rejoiceH8055,LestH6435 the daughtersH1323 of the uncircumcisedH6189 triumph.21Ye mountainsH2022 of GilboaH1533,Let there be no dewH2919 nor rainH4306 upon you, neither fieldsH7704 of offerings:For there the shieldH4043 of the mightyH1368 was vilely cast away,The shieldH4043 of SaulH7586, not anointedH4899 with oilH8081.22From the bloodH1818 of the slainH2491, from the fatH2459 of the mightyH1368,The bowH7198 of JonathanH3083 turnedH7725 not backH7725,And the swordH2719 of SaulH7586 returnedH7725 not emptyH7387.23SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 were lovely and pleasantH5273 in their livesH2416,And in their deathH4194 they were not divided:They were swifter than eaglesH5404,They were strongerH1396 than lionsH738.24Ye daughtersH1323 of IsraelH3478, weepH1058 over SaulH7586,Who clothedH3847 you in scarletH8144 delicately,Who putH3847 ornamentsH5716 of goldH2091 upon your apparel.25HowH349 are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307 in the midstH8432 of the battleH4421!JonathanH3083 is slainH2491 upon thy highH1116 placesH1116.26I am distressed for thee, my brotherH251 JonathanH3083:VeryH3966 pleasantH5276 hast thou been unto me:Thy loveH160 to me was wonderfulH6381,Passing the loveH160 of womenH802.27HowH349 are the mightyH1368 fallenH5307,And the weaponsH3627 of warH4421 perishedH6!
