Matthew 12
American Standard Version
1At that seasonG2540 JesusG2424 wentG4198 on the sabbathG4521 day through the grainfieldsG4702; and his disciplesG3101 were hungryG3983 and beganG757 to pluck ears and to eatG2068. 2But the PhariseesG5330, when they sawG3708 it, saidG3004 unto him, BeholdG2400, thy disciplesG3101 do that which it is not lawfulG1832 to do upon the sabbathG4521. 3But he saidG3004 unto them, Have ye not readG314 what DavidG1138 did, whenG3753 he was hungryG3983, and they that were with him; 4howG4459 he enteredG1525 into the houseG3624 of GodG2316, and ateG2068 the showbread, which it wasG1510 not lawfulG1832 for him to eatG2068, neither for them that wereG1510 with him, but onlyG3441 for the priestsG2409? 5Or have ye not readG314 in the lawG3551, that on the sabbathG4521 day the priestsG2409 in the temple profane the sabbathG4521, and areG1510 guiltless? 6But I sayG3004 unto you, that oneG3588 greaterG3173 than the temple isG1510 hereG5602. 7But if ye had knownG1097 what this meaneth, I desireG2309 mercyG1656, and not sacrificeG2378, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the SonG5207 of manG444 isG1510 lordG2962 of the sabbathG4521.
9And he departedG3327 thence, and went into their synagogueG4864: 10and beholdG2400, a manG444 having a witheredG3584 handG5495. And they askedG1905 him, sayingG3004, Is it lawfulG1832 to healG2323 on the sabbathG4521 day? that they might accuseG2723 him. 11And he saidG3004 unto them, What manG444 shall there beG1510 of you, that shall have oneG1520 sheepG4263, and if this fallG1706 into a pitG999 on the sabbathG4521 day, will he not lay holdG2902 on it, and lift it out? 12HowG4214 muchG4214 thenG3767 is a manG444 of moreG1308 value than a sheepG4263! Wherefore it is lawfulG1832 to do goodG2573 on the sabbathG4521 day. 13Then saith he to the manG444, StretchG1614 forth thy handG5495. And he stretchedG1614 it forth; and it was restored whole, as the otherG243. 14But the PhariseesG5330 wentG1831 out, and tookG2983 counsel against him, howG3704 they might destroyG622 him.
15And JesusG2424 perceivingitwithdrew from thence: and manyG4183 followedG190 him; and he healedG2323 them all, 16and charged them that they should not makeG4160 him known: 17that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396, sayingG3004,
22Then was broughtG4374 unto him oneG3588 possessed with a demon, blindG5185 and dumb: and he healedG2323 him, insomuch that the dumb manG5185 spake and sawG991. 23And all the multitudesG3793 wereG1510 amazed, and saidG3004, Can this beG1510 the sonG5207 of DavidG1138? 24But when the PhariseesG5330 heardG191 it, they saidG3004, This manG3778 doth not castG1544 out demonsG1140, but by Beelzebub the princeG758 of the demonsG1140. 25And knowing their thoughtsG1761 he saidG3004 unto them, Every kingdomG932 divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every cityG4172 or houseG3614 divided against itself shall not standG2476: 26and if SatanG4567 casteth out SatanG4567, he is divided against himself; howG4459 then shall his kingdomG932 standG2476? 27And if I by Beelzebub castG1544 out demonsG1140, by whom do your sonsG5207 castG1544 them out? therefore shall they beG1510 your judgesG2923. 28But if I by the SpiritG4151 of GodG2316 castG1544 out demonsG1140, thenG1161 is the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 comeG5348 upon you. 29Or howG4459 can oneG5100 enterG1525 into the houseG3614 of the strongG2478 man, and spoil his goodsG4632, except he firstG4413 bindG1210 the strongG2478 man? and then he will spoil his houseG3614. 30He that isG1510 not with me isG1510 against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 31Therefore I sayG3004 unto you, Every sinG266 and blasphemyG988 shall be forgivenG863 unto menG444; but the blasphemyG988 against the SpiritG4151 shall not be forgivenG863. 32And whosoever shall speakG3004 a wordG3056 against the SonG5207 of manG444, it shall be forgivenG863 him; but whosoever shall speakG3004 against the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, it shall not be forgivenG863 him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to comeG3195. 33Either makeG4160 the treeG1186 goodG2570, and its fruitG2590 goodG2570; or makeG4160 the treeG1186 corrupt, and its fruitG2590 corrupt: for the treeG1186 is knownG1097 by its fruitG2590. 34Ye offspringG1081 of vipersG2191, howG4459 can ye, beingG1510 evilG4190, speakG2980 goodG18 thingsG18? for out of the abundance of the heartG2588 the mouthG4750 speaketh. 35The goodG18 manG444 out of his goodG18 treasureG2344 bringeth forth goodG18 thingsG18: and the evilG4190 manG444 out of his evilG4190 treasureG2344 bringeth forth evilG4190 thingsG18. 36And I sayG3004 unto you, that every idleG692 wordG3056 that menG444 shall speakG2980, they shall giveG591 accountG3056 thereof in the dayG2250 of judgmentG2920. 37For by thy wordsG3056 thou shalt be justifiedG1344, and by thy wordsG3056 thou shalt be condemned.
38Then certainG5100 of the scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330 answeredG611 him, sayingG3004, TeacherG1320, we would seeG3708 a signG4592 from thee. 39But he answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto them, An evilG4190 and adulterousG3428 generationG1074 seeketh after a signG4592; and there shall no signG4592 be givenG1325 to it but the signG4592 of JonahG2495 the prophetG4396: 40for as JonahG2495 wasG1510 threeG5140 daysG2250 and threeG5140 nightsG3571 in the bellyG2836 of the whale; so shall the SonG5207 of manG444 beG1510 threeG5140 daysG2250 and threeG5140 nightsG3571 in the heartG2588 of the earthG1093. 41The menG435 of Nineveh shall standG450 up in the judgmentG2920 with this generationG1074, and shall condemnG2632 it: for they repentedG3340 at the preachingG2782 of JonahG2495; and beholdG2400, a greaterG4183 than JonahG2495 is hereG5602. 42The queenG938 of the southG3558 shall riseG1453 up in the judgmentG2920 with this generationG1074, and shall condemnG2632 it: for she cameG2064 from the endsG4009 of the earthG1093 to hearG191 the wisdomG4678 of SolomonG4672; and beholdG2400, a greaterG4183 than SolomonG4672 is hereG5602. 43But the uncleanG169 spiritG4151, whenG3752 he is goneG1831 out of the manG444, passeth through waterlessG504 placesG5117, seekingG2212 restG372, and findeth it not. 44Then he saith, I will returnG1994 into my houseG3624 whence I cameG2064 out; and when he is comeG2064, he findeth it empty, sweptG4563, and garnished. 45Then goeth he, and taketh with himself sevenG2033 otherG2087 spiritsG4151 moreG4190 evilG4190 than himself, and they enterG1525 in and dwellG2730 there: and the lastG2078 state of that manG444 becometh worse than the firstG4413. EvenG2532 so shall it beG1510 alsoG2532 unto this evilG4190 generationG1074.
46While he was yet speakingG2980 to the multitudesG3793, beholdG2400, his motherG3384 and his brethren stoodG2476 without, seekingG2212 to speakG2980 to him. 47And oneG5100 saidG3004 unto him, BeholdG2400, thy motherG3384 and thy brethren standG2476 without, seekingG2212 to speakG2980 to thee. 48But he answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto him that toldG3004 him, Who isG1510 my motherG3384? and who areG1510 my brethren? 49And he stretchedG1614 forth his handG5495 towards his disciplesG3101, and saidG3004, BeholdG2400, my motherG3384 and my brethren! 50For whosoever shall do the will of my FatherG3962 who isG1510 in heavenG3772, he isG1510 my brotherG80, and sisterG79, and motherG3384.
