Mary Anoints Jesus

11JesusG2424, thereforeG3767, sixG1803 daysG2250 beforeG4253 2the PassoverG3957, cameG2064 to 3BethanyG963 whereG3699 LazarusG2976 was, whomG3739 JesusG2424 had raisedG1453 from the deadG3498. 2SoG3767 they madeG4160 Him a supperG1173 thereG1563, and 4MarthaG3136 was servingG1247; but LazarusG2976 was oneG1520 of thoseG3588 recliningG345 at the table with Him. 35MaryG3137 thenG3767 tookG2983 a 6poundG3046 of veryG4186 costlyG4186 7perfumeG3464 of pureG4101 nardG3487, and anointedG218 the feetG4228 of JesusG2424 and wipedG1591 His feetG4228 with her hairG2359; and the houseG3614 was filledG4137 with the fragranceG3744 of the perfumeG3464. 4But 8JudasG2455 IscariotG2469, oneG1520 of His disciplesG3101, who was intendingG3195 to 9betrayG3860 Him, saidG3004, 5“WhyG1223G5101 was thisG3778 perfumeG3464 not soldG4097 for 10threeG5145 hundredG5145 denariiG1220 and givenG1325 to poorG4434 people?” 6NowG1161 he saidG3004 thisG3778, not becauseG3754 he was concernedG3199 aboutG4012 the poorG4434, but becauseG3754 he was a thiefG2812, and as he 11hadG2192 the moneyG1101 boxG1101, he used to pilferG941 12what was putG906 into it. 7ThereforeG3767 JesusG2424 saidG3004, “LetG863 her aloneG863, soG2443 that she may keepG5083 13it for 14the dayG2250 of My burialG1780. 815For you alwaysG3842 haveG2192 the poorG4434 with you, but you do not alwaysG3842 haveG2192 Me.”

9The 16largeG4183 crowdG3793 of the JewsG2453 thenG3767 learnedG1097 that He was thereG1563; and they cameG2064, not for Jesus’G2424 sakeG1223 onlyG3440, but that they might alsoG2532 seeG3708 LazarusG2976, 17whomG3739 He raisedG1453 from the deadG3498. 10But the chiefG749 priestsG749 plannedG1011 to putG615 LazarusG2976 to deathG615 alsoG2532; 11becauseG3754 18on accountG1223 of him 19manyG4183 of the JewsG2453 were goingG5217 awayG5217 and were believingG4100 in JesusG2424.

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

12On the nextG1887 dayG1887 20the largeG4183 crowdG3793 who had comeG2064 to 21the feastG1859, when they heardG191 that JesusG2424 was comingG2064 to JerusalemG2414, 13tookG2983 the branchesG902 of the palmG5404 treesG5404 and wentG1831 out to meetG5222 Him, and began to shoutG2905, “22HosannaG5614! BlessedG2127 is He who comesG2064 in the nameG3686 of the LordG2962, evenG2532 the 23KingG935 of IsraelG2474.” 14JesusG2424, findingG2147 a youngG3678 donkeyG3678, satG2523 on it; as it is writtenG1125, 15“24FearG5399 not, daughterG2364 of ZionG4622; beholdG2400, your KingG935 is comingG2064, seatedG2521 on a donkey’sG3688 coltG4454.” 1625TheseG3778 thingsG3778 His disciplesG3101 did not understandG1097 at the firstG4413; but whenG3753 JesusG2424 26was glorifiedG1392, thenG5119 they rememberedG3403 that theseG3778 thingsG3778 were writtenG1125 of Him, and that they had doneG4160 theseG3778 thingsG3778 to Him. 17SoG3767 27the 28peopleG3793, who were with Him whenG3753 He calledG5455 LazarusG2976 out of the tombG3419 and raisedG1453 him from the deadG3498, continuedG3140 to testifyG3140 about Him. 1829For thisG3778 reasonG1223 alsoG2532 the 30peopleG3793 wentG5221 and metG5221 Him, 31becauseG3754 they heardG191 that He had performedG4160 thisG3778 32signG4592. 19SoG3767 the PhariseesG5330 saidG3004 to oneG1438 anotherG1438, “You seeG2334 that you are not doingG5623 anyG3762 goodG5623; lookG2396, the worldG2889 has goneG565 afterG3694 Him.”

Greeks Seek Jesus

20NowG1161 thereG1563 were someG5100 33GreeksG1672 amongG1537 thoseG3588 who were goingG305 up to worshipG4352 at 34the feastG1859; 21theseG3778 thenG3767 cameG4334 to 35PhilipG5376, whoG3588 was from 36BethsaidaG966 of GalileeG1056, and began to askG2065 him, sayingG3004, “SirG2962, we wishG2309 to seeG3708 JesusG2424.” 22PhilipG5376 cameG2064 and toldG3004 37AndrewG406; AndrewG406 and PhilipG5376 cameG2064 and toldG3004 JesusG2424. 23And JesusG2424 answeredG611 them, sayingG3004, “38The hourG5610 has comeG2064 for the SonG5207 of ManG444 to 39be glorifiedG1392. 24TrulyG281, trulyG281, I sayG3004 to you, 40unlessG1437G3361 a grainG2848 of wheatG4621 fallsG4098 into the earthG1093 and diesG599, it remainsG3306 aloneG3441; but ifG1437 it diesG599, it bearsG5342 muchG4183 fruitG2590. 2541He who lovesG5368 his 42lifeG5590 losesG622 it, and he who 43hatesG3404 his 44lifeG5590 in thisG3778 worldG2889 will keepG5442 it to lifeG2222 eternalG166. 26IfG1437 anyoneG5100 45servesG1247 Me, he must followG190 Me; and 46whereG3699 I amG1510, thereG1563 My servantG1249 will be alsoG2532; ifG1437 anyoneG5100 47servesG1247 Me, the FatherG3962 will 48honorG5091 him.

Jesus Foretells His Death

27“49NowG3568 My soulG5590 has become troubledG5015; and whatG5101 shall I sayG3004, ‘50FatherG3962, saveG4982 Me from 51thisG3778 hourG5610’? But for thisG3778 purpose I cameG2064 to thisG3778 hourG5610. 2852FatherG3962, glorifyG1392 Your nameG3686.” ThenG3767 a 53voiceG5456 cameG2064 out of heavenG3772: “I have bothG2532 glorifiedG1392 it, and will glorifyG1392 it againG3825.” 29SoG3767 the crowdG3793 of people who stoodG2476 by and heardG191 it were sayingG3004 that it had thunderedG1027G1096; othersG243 were sayingG3004, “54An angelG32 has spokenG2980 to Him.” 30JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004, “55ThisG3778 voiceG5456 has not comeG1096 for My sakeG1223, but for your sakesG1223. 3156NowG3568 judgmentG2920 is upon thisG3778 worldG2889; nowG3568 57the rulerG758 of thisG3778 worldG2889 will be castG1544 out. 32And I, ifG1437 I 58am liftedG5312 up from the earthG1093, will 59drawG1670 allG3956 menG3956 to MyselfG1683.” 33But He was sayingG3004 thisG3778 60to indicateG4591 the kindG4169 of deathG2288 by whichG4169 He was to dieG599. 34The crowdG3793 thenG3767 answeredG611 Him, “We have heardG191 out of 61the LawG3551 that 6263the ChristG5547 is to remainG3306 foreverG165; and howG4459 can You sayG3004, ‘The 64SonG5207 of ManG444 mustG1163 be 65liftedG5312 up’? WhoG5101 is thisG3778 66SonG5207 of ManG444?” 35SoG3767 JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “67For a littleG3398 whileG5550 longerG2089 68the LightG5457 is amongG1722 you. 69WalkG4043 whileG5613 you haveG2192 the LightG5457, soG2443 that darknessG4653 will not overtakeG2638 you; he who 70walksG4043 in the darknessG4653 does not knowG3609 whereG4226 he goesG5217. 36WhileG5613 you haveG2192 the LightG5457, 71believeG4100 in the LightG5457, soG2443 that you may becomeG1096 72sonsG5207 of LightG5457.”

TheseG3778 thingsG3778 JesusG2424 spokeG2980, and He wentG565 awayG565 and 7374hidG2928 Himself from them. 37But though He had performedG4160 soG5118 manyG5118 75signsG4592 beforeG1715 them, yet they were not believingG4100 in Him. 38This was to fulfillG4137 the wordG3056 of IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396 whichG3739 he spokeG3004: “76LordG2962, whoG5101 has believedG4100 our reportG189? And to whomG5101 has the armG1023 of the LordG2962 been revealedG601?” 39For thisG3778 reasonG1223 they couldG1410 not believeG4100, for IsaiahG2268 saidG3004 againG3825, 40“77He has blindedG5186 their eyesG3788 and He 78hardenedG4456 their heartG2588, soG2443G3361 that they would not seeG3708 with their eyesG3788 and perceiveG3539 with their heartG2588, and 79be convertedG4762 and I healG2390 them.” 41TheseG3778 thingsG3778 IsaiahG2268 saidG3004 becauseG3754 80he sawG3708 His gloryG1391, and 81he spokeG2980 of Him. 42NeverthelessG3676G3305 82manyG4183 evenG2532 of 83the rulersG758 believedG4100 in Him, but 84becauseG1223 of the PhariseesG5330 they were not confessingG3670 Him, for fearG2443G3361 that they would be 8586putG656 out of the synagogueG656; 4387for they lovedG25 the 88approvalG1391 of menG444 ratherG3123 thanG2228 the 89approvalG1391 of GodG2316.

44And JesusG2424 criedG2896 out and saidG3004, “90He who believesG4100 in Me, does not believeG4100 in Me but in Him who sentG3992 Me. 4591He who seesG2334 Me seesG2334 the One who sentG3992 Me. 4692I have comeG2064 as LightG5457 into the worldG2889, soG2443 that everyoneG3956 who believesG4100 in Me will not remainG3306 in darknessG4653. 47IfG1437 anyoneG5100 hearsG191 My sayingsG4487 and does not keepG5442 them, I do not judgeG2919 him; for 93I did not comeG2064 to judgeG2919 the worldG2889, but to saveG4982 the worldG2889. 4894He who rejectsG114 Me and does not receiveG2983 My sayingsG4487, hasG2192 one who judgesG2919 him; 95the wordG3056 I spokeG2980 is whatG1565 will judgeG2919 him at 96the lastG2078 dayG2250. 4997For I did not speakG2980 98on My ownG1683 initiativeG1683, but the FatherG3962 HimselfG846 who sentG3992 Me 99has givenG1325 Me a commandmentG1785 as to whatG5101 to sayG3004 and whatG5101 to speakG2980. 50I knowG3609 that 100His commandmentG1785 is eternalG166 lifeG2222; thereforeG3767 the things I speakG2980, I speakG2980 101justG2531 as the FatherG3962 has toldG3004 Me.”
