For theydo not washνίπτονταιniptontaiG3538their handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495whenὅτανhotanG3752they eatἐσθίωσιν.¶esthiōsinG2068breadἄρτονartonG740.”

3And He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to them,“WhyδιὰdiaG1223do you yourselvesG4771alsoκαὶkaiG2532breakπαραβαίνετεparabaineteG3845the commandmentἐντολὴνentolēnG1785of GodθεοῦtheouG2316for the sakeδιὰdiaG1223of your traditionπαράδοσινparadosinG3862?

4For GodθεὸςtheosG2316saidG3004, ‘HonorτίμαtimaG5091your fatherπατέραpateraG3962and motherμητέρα,mēteraG3384,’ and, ‘The one who speaksG2551evilκακολογῶνkakologōnG2551ofG2551fatherπατέραpateraG3962orἢēG2228motherμητέραmēteraG3384is tobe putτελευτάτω.teleutatōG5053to deathθανάτῳthanatōG2288.’

5But you sayλέγετε·legeteG3004, ‘Whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739 G302saysG3004to hisfatherπατρὶpatriG3962orἢēG2228motherμητρί·mētriG3384, “Whateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739 G1437I haveἐξexG1537that would helpὠφεληθῇς,ōphelēthēasG5623you has beengivenδῶρονdōronG1435to God,”

6he is not tohonorG5091his fatherG3962or mother.’ And by thisyou have invalidatedἠκυρώσατεēkurōsateG208the wordλόγονlogonG3056of GodθεοῦtheouG2316for the sakeδιὰdiaG1223of your traditionπαράδοσινparadosinG3862.

7You hypocritesὙποκριταί,HupokritaiG5273,rightlyκαλῶςkalōsG2573did IsaiahἨσαΐαςĒsaiasG2268prophesyἐπροφήτευσενeprophēteusenG4395aboutπερὶperiG4012you, by saying:

8‘ThisοὗτοςhoutosG3778peopleλαὸςlaosG2992honorsτιμᾷ,timaG5091Me with their lipsχείλεσίνcheilesinG5491,But their heartκαρδίαkardiaG2588is farπόρρωporrōG4206awayἀπέχειapecheiG568from Me.

9And inG3155vainμάτηνmatēnG3155do they worshipσέβονταίsebontaiG4576Me,TeachingδιδάσκοντεςdidaskontesG1321asdoctrinesδιδασκαλίας,didaskaliasG1319the commandmentsἐντάλματαentalmataG1778of menἀνθρώπων.¶anthrōpōnG444.’”

10After Jesus calledπροσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenosG4341the crowdὄχλονochlonG3793to Him, He saidG3004to them,“HearἀκούετεakoueteG191and understandσυνίετε·sunieteG4920!

11It isnot whatG3588entersεἰσερχόμενονeiserchomenonG1525the mouthστόμαstomaG4750thatdefilesκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the personἄνθρωπον,anthrōponG444,but whatG3588comesG1607outG1607of the mouthστόματος,stomatosG4750,thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778defilesκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the personἄνθρωπον.¶anthrōponG444.”

12ThenΤότεToteG5119the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334and saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “Do You knowG3609that the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330wereoffendedἐσκανδαλίσθησαν;¶eskandalisthēsanG4624when they heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191thisG3588statementλόγονlogonG3056?”

13But He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004, “EveryπᾶσαpasaG3956plantφυτείαphuteiaG5451whichἣνhēnG3739My heavenlyοὐράνιοςouraniosG3770FatherπατήρpatērG3962did not plantἐφύτευσενephuteusenG5452will be uprootedἐκριζωθήσεται.ekrizōthēsetaiG1610.

14LeaveἄφετεapheteG863them aloneG863;they are blindG5185guidesὁδηγοίhodēgoiG3595of blindG5185peopleG5185. AndifἐὰνeanG1437a personG5185who is blindG5185guidesὁδηγῇ,hodēgēaG3594anotherwho is blindG5185,bothἀμφότεροιamphoteroiG297will fallπεσοῦνται.pesountaiG4098into a pitβόθυνονbothunonG999.”

The Heart of Mankind

17Do you not understandνοεῖτεnoeiteG3539that everythingπᾶνpanG3956that goesεἰσπορευόμενονeisporeuomenonG1531into the mouthστόμαstomaG4750passesχωρεῖchōreiG5562into the stomachκοιλίανkoilianG2836, and iseliminatedἀφεδρῶνα ἐκβάλλεται;aphedrōna ekballetaiG1519 G856 G1544?

18Butthe things that comeG1607outG1607of the mouthστόματοςstomatosG4750comeἐξέρχεται,exerchetaiG1831from the heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588,and thoseG2548things defileκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the personἄνθρωπον.anthrōponG444.

19For out of the heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588comeἐξέρχονταιexerchontaiG1831evilπονηροί,ponēroiG4190thoughtsδιαλογισμοὶdialogismoiG1261,murdersφόνοι,phonoiG5408, acts ofadulteryμοιχεῖαι,moicheiaiG3430, otherimmoralG4202sexualπορνεῖαι,porneiaiG4202actsG4202,theftsκλοπαί,klopaiG2829,falseψευδομαρτυρίαι,pseudomarturiaiG5577testimoniesG5577, andslanderousG988statementsG988.

20TheseταῦτάtautaG3778are the things that defileκοινοῦνταkoinountaG2840the personἄνθρωπον·anthrōponG444;but to eatG2068with unwashedἀνίπτοιςaniptoisG449handsχερσὶνchersinG5495does not defileκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the personἄνθρωπον.¶anthrōponG444.”

The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

21JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentG1831awayG1831fromG1564thereG1564,and withdrewἀνεχώρησενanechōrēsenG402into the regionμέρηmerēG3313ofTyreΤύρουTurouG5184andSidonΣιδῶνος.SidōnosG4605.

22And a CanaaniteΧαναναίαChananaiaG5478womanγυνὴgunēG1135from that regionὁρίωνhoriōnG3725cameG1831outG1831and beganto cryἔκραζενekrazenG2896outG2896,sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “HaveG1653mercyἐλέησόνeleēsonG1653on me, LordκύριεkurieG2962,SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of DavidG1160;my daughterθυγάτηρthugatērG2364is severelyκακῶςkakōsG2560demon-possessedδαιμονίζεται.¶daimonizetaiG1139.”

23But He did not answerἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611her with evena wordλόγον.logonG3056.And His disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334upG4334and urgedἠρώτουνērōtounG2065Him, sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “SendG630her awayG630,becauseὅτιhotiG3754she keeps shoutingκράζειkrazeiG2896at us!”

24But He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004,“I was sentἀπεστάληνapestalēnG649onlyοὐκ εἰ μὴouk ei mēG3756 G1487 G3361tothe lostἀπολωλόταapolōlotaG622sheepπρόβαταprobataG4263of the houseοἴκουoikouG3624of IsraelἸσραήλ.¶IsraēlG2474.”

25But she cameἐλθοῦσαelthousaG2064and beganto bowG4352downG4352beforeG4352Him, sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “Lordκύριε,kurieG2962,helpβοήθειboētheiG997me!”

26Yet He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004, “It is notgoodκαλὸνkalonG2570to takeλαβεῖνlabeinG2983the children’sτέκνωνteknōnG5043breadἄρτονartonG740and throwβαλεῖνbaleinG906it to the dogsκυναρίοις.¶kunarioisG2952.”

27And she saidG3004, “YesναὶnaiG3483,Lordκύριε·kurieG2962; but please help,for evenκαὶkaiG2532the dogsκυνάριαkunariaG2952feedἐσθίειesthieiG2068on the crumbsψιχίωνpsichiōnG5589that fallπιπτόντωνpiptontōnG4098from their masters’κυρίωνkuriōnG2962tableτραπέζηςtrapezēsG5132.”

28ThenΤότεToteG5119JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to her,“OὦōG5599womanγύναι,gunaiG1135,your faithπίστις·pistisG4102is greatμεγάληmegalēG3173;it shall be doneγενηθήτωgenēthētōG1096for you as you desireθέλεις.theleisG2309.”And her daughterθυγάτηρthugatērG2364was healedἰάθηiathēG2390at onceὥρας ἐκείνης.¶hōras ekeinēsG1565 G5610.

Healing Crowds

29DepartingμεταβὰςmetabasG3327fromG1564thereG1564,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentἦλθενēlthenG2064alongπαρὰparaG3844the SeaθάλασσανthalassanG2281of GalileeΓαλιλαίας,GalilaiasG1056,and after goingG305upG305on the mountainὄροςorosG3735,He was sittingἐκάθητοekathētoG2521thereἐκεῖ.ekeiG1563.

30AndlargeπολλοὶpolloiG4183crowdsὄχλοιochloiG3793cameπροσῆλθονprosēlthonG4334to Him bringingἔχοντεςechontesG2192with them those who werelimpingχωλούς,chōlousG5560,hadG2948impairedG2948limbsG2948, wereblindτυφλούς,tuphlousG5185, or wereunableG2974toG2974speakG2974,and manyπολλοὺςpollousG4183othersἑτέρουςheterousG2087,and they laidG4496them downG4496at His feetπόδαςpodasG4228; andHe healedἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenG2323them.

31SoὥστεhōsteG5620the crowdὄχλονochlonG3793wasG2296astonishedG2296as they sawβλέπονταςblepontasG991those who were unableG2974toG2974speakG2974talkingλαλοῦντας,lalountasG2980,those with impairedG2948limbsG2948restoredὑγιεῖς,hugieisG5199,those who were limpingχωλοὺςchōlousG5560walkingπεριπατοῦντας,peripatountasG4043aroundG4043,and those who were blindτυφλοὺςtuphlousG5185seeingβλέποντας.blepontasG991; and theyglorifiedἐδόξασανedoxasanG1392the GodθεὸνtheonG2316of IsraelἸσραήλ.¶IsraēlG2474.

Four Thousand Men Fed

32NowδὲdeG1161JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424calledπροσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenosG4341His disciplesμαθητὰςmathētasG3101to Him and saidG3004, “I feelG4697compassionσπλαγχνίζομαιsplagchnizomaiG4697for thepeopleὄχλονochlonG3793,becauseὅτιhotiG3754theyhave remainedπροσμένουσίνprosmenousinG4357with Me nowἤδηēdēG2235for threeτρεῖςtreisG5140daysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250and haveἔχουσινechousinG2192nothingG3756 G5100to eatG2068;and I do not wantθέλωthelōG2309to sendἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630them awayG630hungryνήστειςnēsteisG3523,for they might faintἐκλυθῶσινekluthōsinG1590on the wayὁδῷ.hodōG3598.”

33The disciplesμαθηταίmathētaiG3101saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “WhereπόθενpothenG4159would we get soG5118manyG5118loavesἄρτοιartoiG740in thisdesolateG2047placeἐρημίᾳerēmiaG2047to satisfyχορτάσαιchortasaiG5526suchG5118aG5118largeG5118crowdὄχλονochlonG3793?”

34And JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them,“HowπόσουςposousG4214manyG4214loavesἄρτουςartousG740do you haveἔχετε;echeteG2192?”And they saidG3004, “SevenἑπτὰheptaG2033,and a fewὀλίγαoligaG3641smallἰχθύδια.ichthudiaG2485fishG2485.”

35And He directedπαραγγείλαςparangeilasG3853thepeopleὄχλῳochlōG3793tositG377downG377on the groundγῆνgēnG1093;

36and He tookἔλαβενelabenG2983the sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033loavesἄρτουςartousG740and the fishἰχθύας,ichthuasG2486; and aftergivingG2168thanksεὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasG2168,He brokeἔκλασενeklasenG2806them and started givingἐδίδουedidouG1325them to the disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101,and the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101gave themto the crowdsὄχλοις.ochloisG3793.

37And they allπάντεςpantesG3956ateG2068and were satisfiedἐχορτάσθησαν,echortasthēsanG5526,and they pickedG142upG142whatG3588was leftG4052overG4052of the brokenG2801piecesG2801,sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033largeG4711basketsσπυρίδαςspuridasG4711fullπλήρεις.plēreisG4134.

38And thoseοἱhoiG3588who ateἐσθίοντεςesthiontesG2068were fourG5070thousandτετρακισχίλιοιtetrakischilioiG5070menἄνδρεςandresG435,besidesχωρὶςchōrisG5565womenγυναικῶνgunaikōnG1135and childrenπαιδίων.¶paidiōnG3813.

39And sendingG630awayG630the crowdsὄχλουςochlousG3793,Jesus gotἐνέβηenebēG1684intothe boatπλοῖονploionG4143and cameἦλθενēlthenG2064to the regionὅριαhoriaG3725ofMagadanΜαγαδάν.MagadanG3093.
