2The nameוְשֵׁ֣םve.ShemH8034of the manהָאִ֣ישׁha.'IshH376wasElimelechאֱֽלִימֶ֡לֶךְ'eli.Me.lekhH458,and the nameוְשֵׁם֩ve.ShemH8034of his wifeאִשְׁתּ֨וֹ'ish.ToH802,Naomiנָעֳמִ֜יno.'o.MiH5281;and the namesוְשֵׁ֥םve.ShemH8034of his twoשְׁנֵֽי־she.nei-H8147sonsבָנָ֣יו׀va.NavH1121wereMahlonמַחְל֤וֹןmach.LonH4248and Chilionוְכִלְיוֹן֙ve.khil.yOnH3630,Ephrathitesאֶפְרָתִ֔ים'ef.ra.TimH673of BethlehemH1035in Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063. So theyenteredוַיָּבֹ֥אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935the landשְׂדֵי־se.dei-H7704of Moabמוֹאָ֖בmo.'AvH4124and remainedוַיִּֽהְיוּ־vai.yih.yu-H1961thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.

3Then Elimelechאֱלִימֶ֖לֶךְ'e.li.Me.lekhH458,Naomi’sנָעֳמִ֑יno.'o.MiH5281husbandאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376,diedוַיָּ֥מָתvai.Ya.motH4191;and she was leftוַתִּשָּׁאֵ֥רva.ti.sha.'ErH7604with her twoוּשְׁנֵ֥יu.she.NeiH8147sonsבָנֶֽיהָ׃va.Nei.haH1121.

4And they tookוַיִּשְׂא֣וּvai.yis.'UH5375for themselvesH1992Moabiteמֹֽאֲבִיּ֔וֹתmo.'a.vi.YotH4125women aswivesנָשִׁים֙na.ShimH802;the nameשֵׁ֤םshemH8034of the oneהָֽאַחַת֙ha.'a.ChatH259was Orpahעָרְפָּ֔ה'a.re.PahH6204,and the nameוְשֵׁ֥םve.ShemH8034of the otherהַשֵּׁנִ֖יתha.she.NitH8145,Ruthר֑וּתRutH7327.And they livedוַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּvai.Ye.she.vuH3427thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033about tenכְּעֶ֥שֶׂרke.'E.serH6235yearsשָׁנִֽים׃sha.NimH8141.

5Thenbothשְׁנֵיהֶ֖םshe.nei.HemH8147Mahlonמַחְל֣וֹןmach.LonH4248and Chilionוְכִלְי֑וֹןve.khil.YonH3630alsoגַם־gam-H1571diedוַיָּמ֥וּתוּvai.ya.Mu.tuH4191,and the womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802was leftH7604withoutH7604her twoמִשְּׁנֵ֥יmi.she.NeiH8147sonsיְלָדֶ֖יהָye.la.Dei.haH3206and her husbandוּמֵאִישָֽׁהּ׃u.me.'i.ShahH376.

6Then she aroseוַתָּ֤קָםva.Ta.komH6965with her daughters-in-lawוְכַלֹּתֶ֔יהָve.kha.lo.Tei.haH3618to returnוַתָּ֖שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725from the landמִשְּׂדֵ֣יmi.se.DeiH7704of Moabמוֹאָ֑בmo.'AvH4124,becauseH3588she had heardשָֽׁמְעָה֙sha.me.'AhH8085in the landבִּשְׂדֵ֣הbis.DehH7704of Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124that the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068hadvisitedפָקַ֤דfa.KadH6485His peopleעַמּ֔וֹa.MoH5971bygivingלָתֵ֥תla.TetH5414them foodלָֽחֶם׃La.chemH3899.

7So she departedוַתֵּצֵ֗אva.te.Tze'H3318from the placeהַמָּקוֹם֙ha.ma.kOmH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁ֔מָּה'a.Sher Sha.mahH834 H8033she was, and her twoוּשְׁתֵּ֥יu.she.TeiH8147daughters-in-lawכַלֹּתֶ֖יהָkha.lo.Tei.haH3618with her; and they wentוַתֵּלַ֣כְנָהva.te.Lakh.nahH1980on the wayבַדֶּ֔רֶךְva.De.rekhH1870to returnלָשׁ֖וּבla.ShuvH7725to the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063.

8But Naomiנָעֳמִי֙no.'o.MiH5281saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to her twoלִשְׁתֵּ֣יlish.TeiH8147daughters-in-lawכַלֹּתֶ֔יהָkha.lo.Tei.haH3618, “Goלֵ֣כְנָהLe.khe.nahH1980,returnשֹּׁ֔בְנָהShoe.nahH7725eachאִשָּׁ֖ה'i.ShahH802of you toyour mother’sאִמָּ֑הּ'i.MahH517houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004.May the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068dealיַ֣עַשׂya.'a.sehH6213kindlyחֶ֔סֶדChe.sedH2617with you as you have dealtעֲשִׂיתֶ֛ם'a.si.TemH6213with the deadהַמֵּתִ֖יםha.me.TimH4191and with me.

9May the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068grantיִתֵּ֤ןyi.TenH5414that you may findוּמְצֶ֣אןָu.me.Tze.naH4672a placeH4496ofH4496restמְנוּחָ֔הme.nu.ChahH4496,eachH802oneH802in the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of her husbandאִישָׁ֑הּ'i.ShahH376.”Then she kissedוַתִּשַּׁ֣קva.ti.ShakH5401them, and they raisedוַתִּשֶּׂ֥אנָהva.ti.Se.nahH5375their voicesקוֹלָ֖ןko.LanH6963and weptוַתִּבְכֶּֽינָה׃va.tiv.Kei.nahH1058.

10However, they saidוַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה־va.to.Mar.nah-H559to her, “No,but we will returnנָשׁ֖וּבna.ShuvH7725with you to your peopleלְעַמֵּֽךְ׃le.'a.MekhH5971.”

11But Naomiנָעֳמִי֙no.'o.MiH5281saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Returnשֹׁ֣בְנָהShoe.nahH7725,my daughtersבְנֹתַ֔יve.no.TaiH1323.Whyלָ֥מָּהLa.mahH4100should you goתֵלַ֖כְנָהte.Lakh.nahH1980with me? Do I stillהַֽעֽוֹד־ha.'od-H5750have sonsבָנִים֙va.NimH1121in my wombבְּֽמֵעַ֔יbe.me.'AiH4578, thatthey may be your husbandsH376?

14And they raisedוַתִּשֶּׂ֣נָהva.ti.Se.nahH5375their voicesקוֹלָ֔ןko.LanH6963and weptוַתִּבְכֶּ֖ינָהva.tiv.Kei.nahH1058againע֑וֹדodH5750;and Orpahעָרְפָּה֙'a.re.PahH6204kissedוַתִּשַּׁ֤קva.ti.ShakH5401her mother-in-lawלַחֲמוֹתָ֔הּla.cha.mo.TahH2545,but Ruthוְר֖וּתve.RutH7327clungדָּ֥בְקָהDa.ve.kahH1692to her.

15Then she saidוַתֹּ֗אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּה֙hi.NehH2009,your sister-in-lawיְבִמְתֵּ֔ךְye.vim.TekhH2994has goneH7725backH7725to her peopleעַמָּ֖הּ'a.MahH5971and hergodsאֱלֹהֶ֑יהָ'e.lo.Hei.haH430;returnH7725afterאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310your sister-in-lawיְבִמְתֵּֽךְ׃ye.vim.TekhH2994.”

16But Ruthרוּת֙rutH7327saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Do not pleadתִּפְגְּעִי־tif.ge.'i-H6293with me to leaveלְעָזְבֵ֖ךְle.'a.ze.VekhH5800you orto turnלָשׁ֣וּבla.ShuvH7725backH7725from followingמֵאַחֲרָ֑יִךְme.'a.cha.Ra.yikhH310you; for whereאֶל־ אֲשֶׁ֨ר'el- 'a.SherH413 H834you goתֵּלְכִ֜יte.le.KhiH1980,I will goאֵלֵ֗ךְ'e.LekhH1980,and whereוּבַאֲשֶׁ֤רu.va.'a.SherH834you sleepתָּלִ֙ינִי֙ta.Li.niH3885,I will sleepאָלִ֔ין'a.LinH3885.Your peopleעַמֵּ֣ךְ'a.MekhH5971shall bemy peopleעַמִּ֔י'a.MiH5971,and your Godוֵאלֹהַ֖יִךְve.lo.Ha.yikhH430,my Godאֱלֹהָֽי׃'e.lo.HaiH430.

17Whereבַּאֲשֶׁ֤רba.'a.SherH834you dieתָּמ֙וּתִי֙ta.Mu.tiH4191,I will dieאָמ֔וּת'a.MutH4191,and thereוְשָׁ֖םve.ShamH8033I will be buriedאֶקָּבֵ֑ר'e.ka.VerH6912. Maythe Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068doיַעֲשֶׂ֨הya.'a.SehH6213so to me, and worseיֹסִ֔יףyo.SifH3541 H3254,ifכִּ֣יkiH3588anything butdeathהַמָּ֔וֶתha.Ma.vetH4194separatesיַפְרִ֖ידyaf.RidH6504me from you.”

18Whenshe sawוַתֵּ֕רֶאva.Te.re'H7200that she wasH553determinedH553to goלָלֶ֣כֶתla.Le.khetH1980with her, she stoppedוַתֶּחְדַּ֖לva.tech.DalH2308speakingלְדַבֵּ֥רle.da.BerH1696to her about it.

19So they bothשְׁתֵּיהֶ֔םshe.tei.HemH8147wentוַתֵּלַ֣כְנָהva.te.Lakh.nahH1980on untilעַד־'ad-H5704they cameבֹּאָ֖נָהbo.'A.nahH935to BethlehemH1035.And when they had comeכְּבֹאָ֙נָה֙ke.vo.'A.nahH935to BethlehemH1035,allכָּל־kol-H3605the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892was stirredוַתֵּהֹ֤םva.te.HomH1949becauseעֲלֵיהֶ֔ן'a.lei.HenH5921of them, andthe women saidוַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָהva.to.Mar.nahH559, “Is thisH2088Naomiנָעֳמִֽי׃no.'o.MiH5281?”

20But she saidוַתֹּ֣אמֶרva.To.merH559to them, “Do not callתִּקְרֶ֥אנָהtik.Re.nahH7121meNaomiנָעֳמִ֑יno.'o.MiH5281;callקְרֶ֤אןָke.Re.naH7121meMaraמָרָ֔אma.Ra'H4755, forthe Almightyשַׁדַּ֛יsha.DaiH7706has dealtH4843veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966bitterlyH4843with me.

21I wentהָלַ֔כְתִּיha.Lakh.tiH1980awayfullמְלֵאָ֣הme.le.'AhH4392, butthe Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068has broughtH7725me backהֱשִׁיבַ֣נִיhe.shi.Va.niH7725emptyוְרֵיקָ֖םve.rei.KamH7387.Whyלָ֣מָּהLa.mahH4100do you callתִקְרֶ֤אנָהtik.Re.nahH7121me Naomiנָעֳמִ֔יno.'o.MiH5281,since the Lordוַֽיהוָה֙va.Yah.wehH3068has testifiedעָ֣נָה'A.nahH6030against me andthe Almightyוְשַׁדַּ֖יve.sha.DaiH7706has afflictedהֵ֥רַֽעHe.ra'H7489me?”

22So Naomiנָעֳמִ֗יno.'o.MiH5281returnedוַתָּ֣שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725,and with her Ruthוְר֨וּתve.RutH7327the Moabitessהַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֤הha.mo.'a.vi.YahH4125,her daughter-in-lawכַלָּתָהּ֙kha.la.TahH3618,who returnedהַשָּׁ֖בָהha.Sha.vahH7725from the landמִשְּׂדֵ֣יmi.se.DeiH7704of Moabמוֹאָ֑בmo.'AvH4124.And they cameבָּ֚אוּBa.'uH935to BethlehemH1035atthe beginningבִּתְחִלַּ֖תbit.chi.LatH8462of barleyשְׂעֹרִֽים׃se.'o.RimH8184harvestקְצִ֥ירke.TzirH7105.
