For theydo not washνίπτονταιniptontaiG3538their handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495whenὅτανhotanG3752they eatἐσθίωσιν.¶esthiōsinG2068breadἄρτονartonG740.”

3And He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to them,“WhyδιὰdiaG1223do you yourselvesG4771transgressπαραβαίνετεparabaineteG3845the commandmentἐντολὴνentolēnG1785of GodθεοῦtheouG2316for the sakeδιὰdiaG1223of your traditionπαράδοσινparadosinG3862?

4For GodθεὸςtheosG2316saidG3004, ‘HonorτίμαtimaG5091your fatherπατέραpateraG3962and motherμητέρα,mēteraG3384,’ and, ‘He who speaksG2551evilκακολογῶνkakologōnG2551of fatherπατέραpateraG3962orἢēG2228motherμητέραmēteraG3384is tobe putτελευτάτω.teleutatōG5053to deathθανάτῳthanatōG2288.’

5But you sayλέγετε·legeteG3004, ‘Whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739 G302saysG3004to hisfatherπατρὶpatriG3962orἢēG2228motherμητρί·mētriG3384, “Whateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739 G1437I haveἐμοῦemouG1473that would helpὠφεληθῇς,ōphelēthēasG5623you has beengivenδῶρονdōronG1435to God,”

6he is not to honorG5091his fatherG3962orG2228his motherG3384.’ And by thisyou invalidatedἠκυρώσατεēkurōsateG208the wordλόγονlogonG3056of GodθεοῦtheouG2316for the sakeδιὰdiaG1223of your traditionπαράδοσινparadosinG3862.

7You hypocritesὙποκριταί,HupokritaiG5273,rightlyκαλῶςkalōsG2573did IsaiahἨσαΐαςĒsaiasG2268prophesyἐπροφήτευσενeprophēteusenG4395of you:

8‘ThisοὗτοςhoutosG3778peopleλαὸςlaosG2992honorsτιμᾷ,timaG5091Me with their lipsχείλεσίνcheilesinG5491,But their heartκαρδίαkardiaG2588is farπόρρωporrōG4206awayἀπέχειapecheiG568from Me.

9But in vainμάτηνmatēnG3155do they worshipσέβονταίsebontaiG4576Me,TeachingδιδάσκοντεςdidaskontesG1321asdoctrinesδιδασκαλίας,didaskaliasG1319the preceptsἐντάλματαentalmataG1778of menἀνθρώπων.¶anthrōpōnG444.’”

10After Jesus calledπροσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenosG4341the crowdὄχλονochlonG3793to Him, He saidG3004to them,“HearἀκούετεakoueteG191and understandσυνίετε·sunieteG4920.

11It isnot whatG3588entersεἰσερχόμενονeiserchomenonG1525into the mouthστόμαstomaG4750thatdefilesκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the manἄνθρωπον,anthrōponG444,but whatG3588proceedsἐκπορευόμενονekporeuomenonG1607out of the mouthστόματος,stomatosG4750,thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778defilesκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the manἄνθρωπον.¶anthrōponG444.”

12ThenΤότεToteG5119the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334and saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “Do You knowG3609that the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330wereoffendedἐσκανδαλίσθησαν;¶eskandalisthēsanG4624when they heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191thisG3588statementλόγονlogonG3056?”

13But He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004, “EveryπᾶσαpasaG3956plantφυτείαphuteiaG5451whichἣνhēnG3739My heavenlyοὐράνιοςouraniosG3770FatherπατήρpatērG3962did not plantἐφύτευσενephuteusenG5452shall be uprootedἐκριζωθήσεται.ekrizōthēsetaiG1610.

14LetG863them aloneG863;they are blindG5185guidesὁδηγοίhodēgoiG3595of the blindG5185. AndifἐὰνeanG1437a blindG5185manG5185guidesὁδηγῇ,hodēgēaG3594a blindG5185manG5185,bothἀμφότεροιamphoteroiG297will fallπεσοῦνται.pesountaiG4098into a pitβόθυνονbothunonG999.”

The Heart of Man

16Jesus saidG3004,“Are you stillἀκμὴνakmēnG188lackingG801in understandingἀσύνετοίasunetoiG801alsoκαὶkaiG2532?

17Do you not understandνοεῖτεnoeiteG3539that everythingπᾶνpanG3956that goesεἰσπορευόμενονeisporeuomenonG1531into the mouthστόμαstomaG4750passesχωρεῖchōreiG5562into the stomachκοιλίανkoilianG2836, and iseliminatedἀφεδρῶνα ἐκβάλλεται;aphedrōna ekballetaiG1519 G856 G1544?

18Butthe things that proceedἐκπορευόμεναekporeuomenaG1607out of the mouthστόματοςstomatosG4750comeἐξέρχεται,exerchetaiG1831from the heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588,and thoseG2548defileκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the manἄνθρωπον.anthrōponG444.

19For out of the heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588comeἐξέρχονταιexerchontaiG1831evilπονηροί,ponēroiG4190thoughtsδιαλογισμοὶdialogismoiG1261,murdersφόνοι,phonoiG5408,adulteriesμοιχεῖαι,moicheiaiG3430,fornicationsπορνεῖαι,porneiaiG4202,theftsκλοπαί,klopaiG2829,falseψευδομαρτυρίαι,pseudomarturiaiG5577witnessG5577,slandersβλασφημίαι.blasphēmiaiG988.

20TheseταῦτάtautaG3778are the things which defileκοινοῦνταkoinountaG2840the manἄνθρωπον·anthrōponG444;but to eatG2068with unwashedἀνίπτοιςaniptoisG449handsχερσὶνchersinG5495does not defileκοινοῖkoinoiG2840the manἄνθρωπον.¶anthrōponG444.”

The Syrophoenician Woman

21JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentG1831awayG1831from thereἐκεῖθενekeithenG1564,and withdrewἀνεχώρησενanechōrēsenG402into the districtμέρηmerēG3313ofTyreΤύρουTurouG5184andSidonΣιδῶνος.SidōnosG4605.

22And a CanaaniteΧαναναίαChananaiaG5478womanγυνὴgunēG1135from that regionὁρίωνhoriōnG3725cameἐξελθοῦσαexelthousaG1831out and beganto cryἔκραζενekrazenG2896out, sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “HaveG1653mercyἐλέησόνeleēsonG1653on me, LordκύριεkurieG2962,SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of DavidG1160;my daughterθυγάτηρthugatērG2364is cruellyκακῶςkakōsG2560demon-possessedδαιμονίζεται.¶daimonizetaiG1139.”

23But He did not answerἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611her a wordλόγον.logonG3056.And His disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334and imploredἠρώτουνērōtounG2065Him, sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “SendG630her awayG630,becauseὅτιhotiG3754she keeps shoutingκράζειkrazeiG2896at us.”

24But He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004,“I was sentἀπεστάληνapestalēnG649onlyοὐκ εἰ μὴouk ei mēG3756 G1487 G3361tothe lostἀπολωλόταapolōlotaG622sheepπρόβαταprobataG4263of the houseοἴκουoikouG3624of IsraelἸσραήλ.¶IsraēlG2474.”

25But she cameἐλθοῦσαelthousaG2064and beganto bowG4352downG4352beforeG4352Him, sayingλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “Lordκύριε,kurieG2962,helpβοήθειboētheiG997me!”

26And He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004, “It is notgoodκαλὸνkalonG2570to takeλαβεῖνlabeinG2983the children’sτέκνωνteknōnG5043breadἄρτονartonG740and throwβαλεῖνbaleinG906it to the dogsκυναρίοις.¶kunarioisG2952.”

27But she saidG3004, “YesναὶnaiG3483,Lordκύριε·kurieG2962;but evenκαὶkaiG2532the dogsκυνάριαkunariaG2952feedἐσθίειesthieiG2068on the crumbsψιχίωνpsichiōnG5589which fallπιπτόντωνpiptontōnG4098from their masters’κυρίωνkuriōnG2962tableτραπέζηςtrapezēsG5132.”

28ThenΤότεToteG5119JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to her,“OὦōG5599womanγύναι,gunaiG1135,your faithπίστις·pistisG4102is greatμεγάληmegalēG3173;it shall be doneγενηθήτωgenēthētōG1096for you as you wishθέλεις.theleisG2309.”And her daughterθυγάτηρthugatērG2364was healedἰάθηiathēG2390at onceὥρας ἐκείνης.¶hōras ekeinēsG1565 G5610.

Healing Crowds

29DepartingμεταβὰςmetabasG3327from thereἐκεῖθενekeithenG1564,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentἦλθενēlthenG2064alongπαρὰparaG3844bythe SeaθάλασσανthalassanG2281of GalileeΓαλιλαίας,GalilaiasG1056,and having goneἀναβὰςanabasG305up on the mountainὄροςorosG3735,He was sittingἐκάθητοekathētoG2521thereἐκεῖ.ekeiG1563.

30AndlargeπολλοὶpolloiG4183crowdsὄχλοιochloiG3793cameπροσῆλθονprosēlthonG4334to Him, bringingἔχοντεςechontesG2192with them those who werelameχωλούς,chōlousG5560,crippledκυλλούς,kullousG2948,blindτυφλούς,tuphlousG5185,muteκωφούς,kōphousG2974,and manyπολλοὺςpollousG4183othersἑτέρουςheterousG2087,and they laidG4496them downG4496at His feetπόδαςpodasG4228; andHe healedἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenG2323them.

31SoὥστεhōsteG5620the crowdὄχλονochlonG3793marveledθαυμάσαιthaumasaiG2296as they sawβλέπονταςblepontasG991the muteκωφοὺςkōphousG2974speakingλαλοῦντας,lalountasG2980,the crippledκυλλοὺςkullousG2948restoredὑγιεῖς,hugieisG5199,and the lameχωλοὺςchōlousG5560walkingπεριπατοῦντας,peripatountasG4043,and the blindτυφλοὺςtuphlousG5185seeingβλέποντας.blepontasG991; and theyglorifiedἐδόξασανedoxasanG1392the GodθεὸνtheonG2316of IsraelἸσραήλ.¶IsraēlG2474.

Four Thousand Fed

32And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424calledπροσκαλεσάμενοςproskalesamenosG4341His disciplesμαθητὰςmathētasG3101to Him, and saidG3004, “I feelG4697compassionσπλαγχνίζομαιsplagchnizomaiG4697for thepeopleὄχλονochlonG3793,becauseὅτιhotiG3754theyhave remainedπροσμένουσίνprosmenousinG4357with Me nowἤδηēdēG2235threeτρεῖςtreisG5140daysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250and haveἔχουσινechousinG2192nothingG3756 G5100to eatG2068;and I do not wantθέλωthelōG2309to sendἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630them awayG630hungryνήστειςnēsteisG3523,for they might faintἐκλυθῶσινekluthōsinG1590on the wayὁδῷ.hodōG3598.”

33The disciplesμαθηταίmathētaiG3101saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “WhereπόθενpothenG4159would we get soG5118manyG5118loavesἄρτοιartoiG740in thisdesolateG2047placeἐρημίᾳerēmiaG2047to satisfyχορτάσαιchortasaiG5526suchG5118a largeG4183crowdὄχλονochlonG3793?”

34And JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them,“HowπόσουςposousG4214manyG4214loavesἄρτουςartousG740do you haveἔχετε;echeteG2192?”And they saidG3004, “SevenἑπτὰheptaG2033,and a fewὀλίγαoligaG3641smallἰχθύδια.ichthudiaG2485fishG2485.”

35And He directedπαραγγείλαςparangeilasG3853thepeopleὄχλῳochlōG3793tositG377downG377on the groundγῆνgēnG1093;

36and He tookἔλαβενelabenG2983the sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033loavesἄρτουςartousG740and the fishἰχθύας,ichthuasG2486; andgivingG2168thanksεὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasG2168,He brokeἔκλασενeklasenG2806them and started givingἐδίδουedidouG1325them to the disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101,and the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101gave themto the peopleὄχλοις.ochloisG3793.

37And they allπάντεςpantesG3956ateG2068and were satisfiedἐχορτάσθησαν,echortasthēsanG5526,and they pickedἦραν,ēranG142up whatG3588was leftG4052overG4052of the brokenG2801piecesG2801,sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033largeG4711basketsσπυρίδαςspuridasG4711fullπλήρεις.plēreisG4134.

38And thoseοἱhoiG3588who ateἐσθίοντεςesthiontesG2068were fourG5070thousandτετρακισχίλιοιtetrakischilioiG5070menἄνδρεςandresG435,besidesχωρὶςchōrisG5565womenγυναικῶνgunaikōnG1135and childrenπαιδίων.¶paidiōnG3813.

39And sendingG630awayG630the crowdsὄχλουςochlousG3793,Jesus gotἐνέβηenebēG1684intothe boatπλοῖονploionG4143and cameἦλθενēlthenG2064to the regionὅριαhoriaG3725ofMagadanΜαγαδάν.MagadanG3093.
