God’s Love for Jacob

2“I havelovedאָהַ֤בְתִּי'a.Hav.tiH157you,” saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068.But you sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖םva.'a.mar.TemH559, “Howבַּמָּ֣הba.MahH4100have You lovedאֲהַבְתָּ֑נוּ'a.hav.Ta.nuH157us?” “WasEsauעֵשָׂ֤ו'e.SavH6215not Jacob’sלְיַֽעֲקֹב֙le.ya.'a.KoH3290brotherאָ֨ח'achH251?”declaresנְאֻם־ne.'um-H5002the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068. “Yet Ihave lovedוָאֹהַ֖בva.'o.HavH157Jacobיַעֲקֹֽב׃ya.'a.KoH3290;

3but I have hatedשָׂנֵ֑אתִיsa.Ne.tiH8130Esauעֵשָׂ֖ו'e.SavH6215, and I havemadeוָאָשִׂ֤יםva.'a.SimH7760his mountainsהָרָיו֙ha.RavH2022a desolationשְׁמָמָ֔הshe.ma.MahH8077and givenhis inheritanceנַחֲלָת֖וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159to the jackalsH8565of the wildernessמִדְבָּֽר׃mid.BarH4057.”

4Thoughכִּֽי־ki-H3588EdomH112saysתֹאמַ֨רto.MarH559, “We have beenbeatenH7567downH7567, but we willreturnוְנָשׁוּב֙ve.na.ShuvH7725and buildH1129upH1129the ruinsחֳרָב֔וֹתcho.ra.VotH2723”;thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: “They maybuildH1129,but I will tearאֶהֱר֑וֹס'e.he.RosH2040downH2040; and peoplewill callוְקָרְא֤וּve.ka.re.'UH7121them theterritoryגְּב֣וּלge.VulH1366of wickednessH7562,and the peopleוְהָעָ֛םve.ha.'AmH5971with whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068isH2194indignantזָעַ֥םza.'AmH2194foreverעַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769.”

5And your eyesוְעֵינֵיכֶ֖םve.'ei.nei.KhemH5869will seeתִּרְאֶ֑ינָהtir.'Ei.nahH7200this,and you will sayתֹּֽאמְרוּ֙to.me.RuH559, “The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068be exaltedיִגְדַּ֣לyig.DalH1431beyondמֵעַ֖לme.'AlH4480 H5921theborderלִגְב֥וּלlig.VulH1366of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478!”

6“‘A sonבֵּ֛ןbenH1121honorsיְכַבֵּ֥דye.kha.BedH3513hisfatherאָ֖ב'avH1,and a servantוְעֶ֣בֶדve.'E.vedH5650his masterאֲדֹנָ֑יו'a.do.NavH113.Then ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518I am afatherאָ֣ב'avH1,whereאַיֵּ֣ה'ai.YehH346is My honorכְבוֹדִ֡יkhe.vo.DiH3519?And ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518I am a masterאֲדוֹנִ֣ים'a.do.NimH113,whereאַיֵּ֨ה'ai.YehH346is Myrespectמוֹרָאִ֜יmo.ra.'IH4172?’saysאָמַ֣ר׀'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֗וֹתtze.va.'otH6635to you, thepriestsהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ha.ko.ha.NimH3548who despiseבּוֹזֵ֣יbo.ZeiH959My nameשְׁמִ֔יshe.MiH8034!But you sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕םva.'a.mar.TemH559, ‘Howבַּמֶּ֥הba.MehH4100have we despisedבָזִ֖ינוּva.Zi.nuH959Your nameשְׁמֶֽךָ׃she.Me.khaH8034?’

7You arepresentingמַגִּישִׁ֤יםma.gi.ShimH5066defiledמְגֹאָ֔לme.go.'AlH1351foodלֶ֣חֶםLe.chemH3899upon My altarמִזְבְּחִי֙miz.be.ChiH4196.But you sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖םva.'a.mar.TemH559, ‘Howבַּמֶּ֣הba.MehH4100have we defiledגֵֽאַלְנ֑וּךָge.'al.Nu.khaH1351You?’ In that you sayבֶּאֱמָרְכֶ֕םbe.'e.ma.re.KhemH559, ‘Thetableשֻׁלְחַ֥ןshul.ChanH7979of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068is to beH959despisedH959.’

8And whenוְכִֽי־ve.khi-H3588you presentתַגִּשׁ֨וּןta.gi.ShunH5066ablindעִוֵּ֤ר'i.VerH5787animalfor sacrificeלִזְבֹּ֙חַ֙liz.Bo.achH2076,is it not evilרָ֔עRa'H7451?Or whenוְכִ֥יve.KhiH3588you presentתַגִּ֛ישׁוּta.Gi.shuH5066a lameפִּסֵּ֥חַpi.Se.achH6455or sickוְחֹלֶ֖הve.cho.LehH2470animal,is it not evilרָ֑עRa'H7451?Soנָ֜אna'H4994offerהַקְרִיבֵ֨הוּhak.ri.Ve.huH7126it to yourgovernorלְפֶחָתֶ֗ךָle.fe.cha.Te.khaH6346!Would he be pleasedהֲיִרְצְךָ֙ha.yir.tze.KhaH7521with you, orא֚וֹ'oH176would he receiveהֲיִשָּׂ֣אha.yi.Sa'H5375 H6440you kindlyH6440?”saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָאֽוֹת׃tze.va.'otH6635.

9“But nowוְעַתָּ֛הve.'a.TahH6258,do indeedנָ֥אna'H4994pleadH2470forH2470God’sאֵ֖ל'elH410favorH6440,so that He will beH2603graciousH2603to us.With suchH2088an offering on your partמִיֶּדְכֶם֙mi.yed.KhemH3027, will Hereceiveהֲיִשָּׂ֤אha.yi.Sa'H5375 H6440anyH4480of you kindlyH6440?”saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָאֽוֹת׃tze.va.'otH6635.

10“IfH4310 H1571onlyH4310 H1571there were one among you who wouldshutוְיִסְגֹּ֣רve.yis.GorH5462thegatesדְּלָתַ֔יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817,so that you would not kindleתָאִ֥ירוּta.'I.ruH215fire onMy altarמִזְבְּחִ֖יmiz.be.ChiH4196forH2600nothingH2600!I am not pleasedחֵ֜פֶץChe.fetzH2656with you,” saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635, “norH3808will I acceptאֶרְצֶ֥ה'er.TzehH7521an offeringוּמִנְחָ֖הu.min.ChahH4503from your hand.

11For from therisingמִמִּזְרַח־mi.miz.rach-H4217of the sunשֶׁ֜מֶשׁShe.meshH8121even to its settingמְבוֹא֗וֹme.vo.'OH3996,My nameשְׁמִי֙she.MiH8034shall begreatגָּד֤וֹלga.DolH1419among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֔םba.go.YimH1471,and in everyוּבְכָל־u.ve.Khol-H3605placeמָק֗וֹםma.KomH4725frankincenseH4729is going to be offeredמֻקְטָ֥ר מֻגָּ֛שׁmuk.Tar mu.GashH5066 H6999to My nameלִשְׁמִ֖יlish.MiH8034,and a grain offeringוּמִנְחָ֣הu.min.ChahH4503that ispureטְהוֹרָ֑הte.ho.RahH2889;for My nameשְׁמִי֙she.MiH8034shall begreatגָד֤וֹלga.DolH1419among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֔םba.go.YimH1471,”saysאָמַ֖ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָאֽוֹת׃tze.va.'otH6635.

12“But you areprofaningמְחַלְּלִ֣יםme.cha.le.LimH2490it by your sayingבֶּאֱמָרְכֶ֗םbe.'e.ma.re.KhemH559, ‘The tableשֻׁלְחַ֤ןshul.ChanH7979of the Lordאֲדֹנָי֙'a.do.NaiH136is defiledמְגֹאָ֣לme.go.'AlH1351,and as for its fruitH5204,its foodאָכְלֽוֹ׃'a.khe.LoH400is to beH959despisedH959.’

13You also sayוַאֲמַרְתֶּם֩va.'a.mar.TemH559, ‘Seeהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,howמַתְּלָאָ֜הma.te.la.'AhH4100tiresomeמַתְּלָאָ֜הma.te.la.'AhH8513it is!’ And you viewH5301it asH5301trivialH5301,”saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635, “and you bringוַהֲבֵאתֶ֣םva.ha.ve.TemH935what was takenH1497byH1497robberyH1497and what islameהַפִּסֵּ֙חַ֙ha.pi.Se.achH6455or sickהַ֣חוֹלֶ֔הha.cho.LehH2470;so you bringוַהֲבֵאתֶ֖םva.ha.ve.TemH935the offeringהַמִּנְחָ֑הha.min.ChahH4503! Should Iacceptהַאֶרְצֶ֥הha.'er.TzehH7521it from your handמִיֶּדְכֶ֖םmi.yed.KhemH3027?”saysאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.

14“But cursedוְאָר֣וּרve.'a.RurH779be theswindlerנוֹכֵ֗לno.KhelH5230who hasוְיֵ֤שׁve.YeshH3426a maleזָכָ֔רza.KharH2145in his flockבְּעֶדְרוֹ֙be.'ed.RoH5739and vowsוְנֹדֵ֛רve.no.DerH5087it,but sacrificesוְזֹבֵ֥חַve.zo.Ve.achH2076ablemishedמָשְׁחָ֖תma.she.ChatH7843animalto the Lordלַֽאדֹנָ֑יla.do.NaiH136,for I am a greatגָּד֜וֹלga.DolH1419Kingמֶ֨לֶךְMe.lekhH4428,”saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635, “and My nameוּשְׁמִ֖יu.she.MiH8034isfearedנוֹרָ֥אno.Ra'H3372among thenationsבַגּוֹיִֽם׃va.go.YimH1471.”
