8But Danielדָּנִיֵּאל֙da.ni.yeLH1840madeH7760upH7760his mindלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820that he would notdefileיִתְגָּאַ֛לyit.ga.'AlH1351himself with theking’sהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428choiceH6598foodH6598or with thewineוּבְיֵ֣יןu.ve.YeinH3196which he drankמִשְׁתָּ֑יוmish.TavH4960;so he soughtוַיְבַקֵּשׁ֙vay.va.KeshH1245permissionfrom the commanderמִשַּׂ֣רmi.SarH8269of the officialsהַסָּרִיסִ֔יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631that he might not defileיִתְגָּאָֽל׃yit.ga.'AlH1351himself.

9Now Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430grantedוַיִּתֵּ֤ןvai.yi.TenH5414Danielדָּ֣נִיֵּ֔אלda.ni.YelH1840favorלְחֶ֖סֶדle.Che.sedH2617and compassionוּֽלְרַחֲמִ֑יםu.le.ra.cha.MimH7356in the sightלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440of the commanderשַׂ֥רsarH8269of the officialsהַסָּרִיסִֽים׃ha.sa.ri.SimH5631.

10The commanderשַׂ֤רsarH8269of the officialsהַסָּרִיסִים֙ha.sa.ri.SimH5631saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Danielלְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אלle.Da.ni.YelH1840, “I am afraidH3372of my lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,whoH834has allottedמִנָּ֔הmi.NahH4487your foodמַאֲכַלְכֶ֖םma.'a.khal.KhemH3978and your drinkמִשְׁתֵּיכֶ֑םmish.tei.KhemH4960;for whyלָמָּה֩la.MahH4100should he seeיִרְאֶ֨הyir.'EhH7200your facesפְּנֵיכֶ֜םpe.nei.KhemH6440lookingזֹֽעֲפִ֗יםzo.'a.FimH2196gauntH2196inH4480comparisonH4480toH4480the youthsהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206whoH834are your own ageכְּגִֽילְכֶ֔םke.gi.le.KhemH1524? 11But Danielדָּנִיֵּ֖אלda.ni.YelH1840saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the overseerהַמֶּלְצַ֑רha.mel.TzarH4453whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834the commanderשַׂ֣רsarH8269of the officialsהַסָּֽרִיסִ֔יםha.sa.ri.SimH5631had appointedמִנָּה֙mi.NahH4487overעַל־'al-H5921Danielדָּנִיֵּ֣אלda.ni.YelH1840,Hananiahחֲנַנְיָ֔הcha.nan.YahH2608,Mishaelמִֽישָׁאֵ֖לmi.sha.'ElH4332,and Azariahוַעֲזַרְיָֽה׃va.'a.zar.YahH5838,

12“Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994putנַס־nas-H5254your servantsעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650toH5254theH5254testH5254for tenעֲשָׂרָ֑ה'a.sa.RahH6235daysיָמִ֣יםya.MimH3117, and let us begivenוְיִתְּנוּ־ve.yi.te.nu-H5414someמִן־min-H4480vegetablesהַזֵּרֹעִ֛יםha.ze.ro.'ImH2235to eatוְנֹאכְלָ֖הve.no.khe.LahH398and waterוּמַ֥יִםu.Ma.yimH4325to drinkוְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃ve.nish.TehH8354.

13Then let our appearanceמַרְאֵ֔ינוּmar.'Ei.nuH4758beexaminedוְיֵרָא֤וּve.ye.ra.'UH7200in your presenceלְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙le.fa.Nei.khaH6440and the appearanceוּמַרְאֵה֙u.mar.'EhH4758of the youthsהַיְלָדִ֔יםhay.la.DimH3206whoוְכַאֲשֶׁ֣רve.kha.'a.SherH834are eatingהָאֹ֣כְלִ֔יםha.'O.khe.LimH398the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428choiceH6598foodH6598;and dealעֲשֵׂ֖ה'a.SehH6213with your servantsעֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃'a.va.Dei.khaH5650according to whatH3512you seeתִּרְאֵ֔הtir.'EhH7200.”

14So he listenedוַיִּשְׁמַ֥עvai.yish.Ma'H8085to them in thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088matterלַדָּבָ֣רla.da.VarH1697,and putוַיְנַסֵּ֖םvay.na.SemH5254them toH5254theH5254testH5254for tenעֲשָׂרָֽה׃'a.sa.RahH6235daysיָמִ֥יםya.MimH3117.
