45ThenΤότεToteG5119He cameἔρχεταιerchetaiG2064to the disciplesμαθητὰςmathētasG3101and saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them, “Are you stillG3062sleepingκαθεύδετεkatheudeteG2518and restingἀναπαύεσθε·anapauestheG373?BeholdἰδοὺidouG2400,the hourὥρα,hōraG5610isG1448atG1448handG1448and the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of ManἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444is being betrayedπαραδίδοταιparadidotaiG3860into the handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495of sinnersἁμαρτωλῶν.hamartōlōnG268.

46GetG1453upG1453,let’s goἄγωμεν·agōmenG71;beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,the one who is betrayingπαραδιδούςparadidousG3860Me is nearἤγγικενēngikenG1448!”

47And while He was stillἔτιetiG2089speakingλαλοῦντοςlalountosG2980,beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,JudasἸούδαςIoudasG2455,oneεἷςheisG1520of the twelveδώδεκαdōdekaG1427,cameἦλθεν,ēlthenG2064accompaniedG3326 G846by a largeπολὺςpolusG4183crowdὄχλοςochlosG3793with swordsμαχαιρῶνmachairōnG3162and clubsξύλωνxulōnG3586, who camefrom the chiefἀρχιερέωνarchiereōnG749priestsG749and eldersπρεσβυτέρωνpresbuterōnG4245of the peopleλαοῦ.laouG2992.

48NowδὲdeG1161he who was betrayingπαραδιδοὺςparadidousG3860Him gaveἔδωκενedōkenG1325them a signσημεῖονsēmeionG4592previously,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “Whomeverὃν ἂνhon anG3739 G302I kissφιλήσω,philēsōG5368, He is the one;arrestκρατήσατεkratēsateG2902Him.”

49And immediatelyεὐθέωςeutheōsG2112JudaswentG4334upG4334toG4334JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424and saidG3004, “GreetingsχαῖρεchaireG5463,Rabbiῥαββί,rhabbiG4461!”and kissedκατεφίλησενkatephilēsenG2705Him.

50But JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to him, “Friendἑταῖρε,hetaireG2083, dowhatὃhoG3739you haveG3918comeπάρει.pareiG3918for.”ThenτότεtoteG5119they cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334and laidἐπέβαλονepebalonG1911handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495on JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424and arrestedἐκράτησανekratēsanG2902Him.

51And beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,oneεἷςheisG1520of thoseG3588whoG3588were with JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424reachedἐκτείναςekteinasG1614and drewἀπέσπασενapespasenG645hisswordμάχαιρανmachairanG3162,and struckπατάξαςpataxasG3960theslaveδοῦλονdoulonG1401of the highἀρχιερέωςarchiereōsG749priestG749andcutἀφεῖλενapheilenG851offG851his earὠτίον.¶ōtionG5621.

52ThenΤότεToteG5119JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him,“PutG654your swordμάχαιράνmachairanG3162backG654into its placeτόπονtoponG5117; forallπάντεςpantesG3956thoseG3588who takeλαβόντεςlabontesG2983up the swordμάχαιρανmachairanG3162will perishἀπολοῦνται.apolountaiG622by the swordμαχαίρῃmachairēG3162.

53OrἢēG2228do you thinkδοκεῖςdokeisG1380that I cannotοὐ δύναμαιou dunamaiG1410 G3756appealπαρακαλέσαιparakalesaiG3870to My FatherπατέραpateraG3962,and He will at onceἄρτιartiG737putG3936atG3936My disposalG3936moreπλείωpleiōG4183than twelveδώδεκαdōdekaG1427legionsλεγιῶναςlegiōnasG3003ofangelsἀγγέλων;angelōnG32?

54HowπῶςpōsG4459thenοὖνounG3767wouldthe ScripturesγραφαὶgraphaiG1124be fulfilledπληρωθῶσινplērōthōsinG4137, which saythat it mustδεῖdeiG1163happenγενέσθαι;¶genesthaiG1096thisG3779wayG3779?”

55At that timeὥρᾳhōraG5610JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to the crowdsὄχλοις·ochloisG3793,“Have you comeἐξήλθατεexēlthateG1831outG1831with swordsμαχαιρῶνmachairōnG3162and clubsξύλωνxulōnG3586to arrestσυλλαβεῖνsullabeinG4815Me as you wouldagainstἐπὶepiG1909a manG3027incitingG3027aG3027revoltG3027?Everyκαθ᾽kath᾽G2596dayἡμέρανhēmeranG2250I used to sitἐκαθεζόμηνekathezomēnG2516within the templeG2413groundsteachingδιδάσκων,didaskōnG1321,and you did not arrestἐκρατήσατέekratēsateG2902Me.

57ThoseG3588who had arrestedκρατήσαντεςkratēsantesG2902JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424ledG520Him awayἀπήγαγονapēgagonG520toCaiaphasΚαϊάφανKaiaphanG2533,the highἀρχιερέαarchiereaG749priestG749,whereὅπουhopouG3699the scribesγραμματεῖςgrammateisG1122and the eldersπρεσβύτεροιpresbuteroiG4245were gatheredG4863togetherG4863.

58ButPeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074was followingἠκολούθειēkoloutheiG190Him at a distanceμακρόθενmakrothenG3113,asG2193farG2193asG2193thecourtyardαὐλῆςaulēsG833of the highἀρχιερέως,archiereōsG749priestG749,and he cameεἰσελθὼνeiselthōnG1525insideἔσωesōG2080and satG2521downG2521with theofficersὑπηρετῶνhupēretōnG5257to seeG3708the outcomeτέλος.¶telosG5056.

60They did not findεὗρονheuronG2147any,even though manyπολλῶνpollōnG4183falseG5577witnessesG5577cameπροσελθόντωνproselthontōnG4334forwardπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334.But laterG5305ontwoδύοduoG1417cameG4334forwardG4334,

61and saidG3004, “ThisG3778manοὗτοςhoutosG3778statedἔφη·ephēG5346, ‘I amG1410ableδύναμαιdunamaiG1410to destroyκαταλῦσαιkatalusaiG2647thetempleναὸνnaonG3485of GodθεοῦtheouG2316and to rebuildοἰκοδομῆσαιoikodomēsaiG3618itin threeτριῶνtriōnG5140daysἡμερῶνhēmerōnG2250.’”

62The highἀρχιερεὺςarchiereusG749priestG749stoodG450upG450and saidG3004to Him, “Do You offerG611noοὐδὲνoudenG3762answerἀποκρίνῃ;apokrinēG611for whatτίtiG5101theseG3778menG3778are testifyingG2649againstG2649You?”

63ButJesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424keptG4623silentἐσιώπα.esiōpaG4623.And the highἀρχιερεὺςarchiereusG749priestG749saidG3004to Him, “IplaceG1844You underG1844oathG1844bythe livingζῶντοςzōntosG2198GodθεοῦtheouG2316,to tellG3004us whetherεἰeiG1487You are theChristχριστὸςchristosG5547,the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of Godθεοῦ.theouG2316.”

64JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him, “You have saidλέγωlegōG3004ityourself. ButπλὴνplēnG4133I tellG3004you, from nowἄρτιartiG737onyou will seeG3708the SonυἱὸνhuionG5207of ManἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444sittingκαθήμενονkathēmenonG2521at the rightδεξιῶνdexiōnG1188handG1188of powerδυνάμεωςdunameōsG1411, andcomingἐρχόμενονerchomenonG2064on the cloudsνεφελῶνnephelōnG3507of heavenοὐρανοῦ.¶ouranouG3772.”

66whatτίtiG5101do you thinkδοκεῖ;dokeiG1380?”They answeredἀποκριθέντεςapokrithentesG611, “He deservesἔνοχοςenochosG1777deathθανάτουthanatouG2288!”

67ThenΤότεToteG5119theyspitἐνέπτυσανeneptusanG1716in His faceπρόσωπονprosōponG4383and beatG2852Him withG2852their fistsG2852;and othersG3588slappedἐράπισανerapisanG4474Him,

68and saidλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “ProphesyπροφήτευσονprophēteusonG4395to us, YouChristχριστέ,christeG5547;whoτίςtisG5101is the one who hitπαίσαςpaisasG3817You?”

69NowδὲdeG1161PeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074was sittingἐκάθητοekathētoG2521outsideἔξωexōG1854in thecourtyardαὐλῇ.aulēaG833,and a slaveG3814womanG3814cameπροσῆλθενprosēlthenG4334to him and saidλέγουσα·legousaG3004, “You tooG2532were with JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424the GalileanΓαλιλαίου.GalilaiouG1057.”

70But he deniedἠρνήσατοērnēsatoG720itbeforeἔμπροσθενemprosthenG1715them allπάντωνpantōnG3956,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “I do not knowG3609whatτίtiG5101you are talkingλέγεις.legeisG3004about.”

71When he had goneG1831outG1831to the gatewayπυλῶναpulōnaG4440,anotherἄλληallēG243slave womansawG3708him and saidλέγειlegeiG3004to thoseG3588whoG3588were thereἐκεῖ·ekeiG1563, “ThisG3778manοὗτοςhoutosG3778was with JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424of NazarethΝαζωραίου.NazōraiouG3480.”

72And againπάλινpalinG3825he deniedἠρνήσατοērnēsatoG720it,with an oathὅρκουhorkouG3727: “I do not knowG3609the manἄνθρωπον.anthrōponG444.”

73A littleμικρὸνmikronG3398laterμετὰmetaG3326the bystandersἑστῶτεςhestōtesG2476cameπροσελθόντεςproselthontesG4334upG4334and saidG3004to PeterΠέτρῳ·PetrōG4074, “You reallyἀληθῶςalēthōsG230are oneof them asG2532wellG2532,sinceγὰρgarG1063evenG2532the wayG2981you talkG2981givesG4160you awayδῆλόνdēlonG1212 G4160.”

74ThenτότεtoteG5119he beganἤρξατοērxatoG757to curseG2617and swearὀμνύεινomnueinG3660, “I do not knowG3609the Manἄνθρωπον.anthrōponG444!”And immediatelyG2117a roosterἀλέκτωρalektōrG220crowedἐφώνησεν.ephōnēsenG5455.
