John 11
1NowG1161 a certainG5100 man wasG1510 sickG770, LazarusG2976 of BethanyG963, of the villageG2968 of MaryG3137 and her sisterG79 MarthaG3136. 2And it wasG1510 that MaryG3137 who anointedG218 the LordG2962 with ointment, and wiped his feetG4228 with her hairG2359, whose brotherG80 LazarusG2976 wasG1510 sickG770. 3The sistersG79 thereforeG3767 sentG649 unto him, sayingG3004, LordG2962, beholdG2396, he whom thou lovest is sickG770. 4But when JesusG2424 heardG191 it, he saidG3004, This sicknessG769 isG1510 not unto deathG2288, but for the gloryG1391 of GodG2316, that the SonG5207 of GodG2316 may beG1510 glorifiedG1392 thereby. 5NowG1161 JesusG2424 lovedG25 MarthaG3136, and her sisterG79, and LazarusG2976. 6WhenG5613 thereforeG3767 he heardG191 that he wasG1510 sickG770, he abode at that time twoG1417 daysG2250 in the placeG5117 where he wasG1510. 7ThenG1899 after this he saith to the disciplesG3101, Let us goG71 into Judæa againG3825. 8The disciplesG3101 sayG3004 unto him, RabbiG4461, the JewsG2453 were but nowG3568 seekingG2212 to stoneG3034 thee; and goest thou thither againG3825? 9JesusG2424 answeredG611, AreG1510 there not twelveG1427 hoursG5610 in the dayG2250? If a manG3778 walkG4043 in the dayG2250, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the lightG5457 of this worldG2889. 10But if a man walkG4043 in the nightG3571, he stumbleth, because the lightG5457 isG1510 not in him. 11These thingsG3778 spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friendG5384 LazarusG2976 is fallen asleepG2837; but I goG4198, that I may awake him out of sleepG2837. 12The disciplesG3101 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 unto him, LordG2962, if he is fallen asleepG2837, he will recover. 13NowG1161 JesusG2424 had spoken of his deathG2288: but they thoughtG1380 that he spake of taking rest in sleepG5258. 14ThenG5119 JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 unto them plainlyG3954, LazarusG2976 is deadG599. 15And I amG1510 gladG5463 for your sakesG1223 that I wasG1510 not there, to the intent ye may believeG4100; nevertheless let us goG71 unto him. 16ThomasG2381 thereforeG3767, who is called DidymusG1324, saidG3004 unto his fellow-disciples, Let us alsoG2532 goG71, that we may dieG599 with him.
17So when JesusG2424 cameG2064, he foundG2147 that he had been in the tombG3419 fourG5064 daysG2250 alreadyG2235. 18NowG1161 BethanyG963 wasG1510 nigh unto JerusalemG2414, about fifteenG1178 furlongs off; 19and manyG4183 of the JewsG2453 had comeG2064 to MarthaG3136 and MaryG3137, to console them concerningG4012 their brotherG80. 20MarthaG3136 thereforeG3767, whenG5613 she heardG191 that JesusG2424 was comingG2064, went and met him: but MaryG3137 still sat in the houseG3624. 21MarthaG3136 thereforeG3767 saidG3004 unto JesusG2424, LordG2962, if thou hadst beenG1510 hereG5602, my brotherG80 had not diedG599. 22And evenG2532 nowG3568 I know that, whatsoever thou shalt askG154 of GodG2316, GodG2316 will giveG1325 thee. 23JesusG2424 saith unto her, Thy brotherG80 shall riseG450 againG450. 24MarthaG3136 saith unto him, I know that he shall riseG450 againG450 in the resurrectionG386 at the lastG2078 dayG2250. 25JesusG2424 saidG3004 unto her, I amG1510 the resurrectionG386, and the lifeG2222: he that believeth on me, though he dieG599, yet shall he liveG2198; 26and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never dieG599. Believest thou this? 27She saith unto him, Yea, LordG2962: I have believedG4100 that thou art the ChristG5547, the SonG5207 of GodG2316, even he that cometh into the worldG2889. 28And when she had saidG3004 this, she wentG565 awayG565, and called MaryG3137 her sisterG79 secretlyG2977, sayingG3004, The TeacherG1320 is here, and calleth thee. 29And she, whenG5613 she heardG191 it, arose quicklyG5035, and went unto him. 30(NowG1161 JesusG2424 wasG1510 not yet comeG2064 into the villageG2968, but wasG1510 stillG2089 in the placeG5117 whereG3699 MarthaG3136 met him.) 31The JewsG2453 then who wereG1510 with her in the houseG3614, and wereG1510 consoling her, when they sawG3708 MaryG3137, that she roseG450 up quickly and wentG1831 out, followedG190 her, supposing that she wasG1510 goingG5217 unto the tombG3419 to weepG2799 there. 32MaryG3137 thereforeG3767, whenG5613 she cameG2064 whereG3699 JesusG2424 wasG1510, and sawG3708 him, fellG4098 downG4098 at his feetG4228, sayingG3004 unto him, LordG2962, if thou hadst beenG1510 hereG5602, my brotherG80 had not diedG599. 33WhenG5613 JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 sawG3708 her weepingG2799, and the JewsG2453 alsoG2532 weepingG2799 who cameG4905 with her, he groaned in the spiritG4151, and was troubledG5015, 34and saidG3004, WhereG4226 have ye laidG5087 him? They sayG3004 unto him, LordG2962, comeG2064 and seeG3708. 35JesusG2424 wept. 36The JewsG2453 thereforeG3767 saidG3004, BeholdG2396 howG4459 he lovedG5368 him! 37But some of them saidG3004, Could not this manG3778, who openedG455 the eyesG3788 of him that was blindG5185, have caused that this manG3778 alsoG2532 should not dieG599? 38JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 againG3825 groaning in himself cometh to the tombG3419. NowG1161 it wasG1510 a cave, and a stoneG3037 lay against it. 39JesusG2424 saith, TakeG142 ye awayG142 the stoneG3037. MarthaG3136, the sisterG79 of him that wasG1510 dead, saith unto him, LordG2962, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath beenG1510 dead four days. 40JesusG2424 saith unto her, SaidG3004 I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest seeG3708 the gloryG1391 of GodG2316? 41So they tookG142 awayG142 the stoneG3037. And JesusG2424 liftedG142 up his eyesG3788, and saidG3004, FatherG3962, I thankG2168 thee that thou heardest me. 42And I knew that thou hearest me alwaysG3842: but because of the multitudeG3793 that standeth around I saidG3004 it, that they may believeG4100 that thou didst sendG649 me. 43And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, LazarusG2976, comeG1204 forth. 44He that was dead cameG1831 forthG1831, boundG1210 handG5495 and footG4228 with grave-clothes; and his faceG3799 was boundG1210 about with a napkin. JesusG2424 saith unto them, LooseG3089 him, and let him goG5217.
45ManyG4183 thereforeG3767 of the JewsG2453, who cameG2064 to MaryG3137 and beheld that which he did, believedG4100 on him. 46But some of them wentG565 awayG565 to the PhariseesG5330, and toldG3004 them the thingsG3739 which JesusG2424 had done.
47The chiefG749 priestsG749 thereforeG3767 and the PhariseesG5330 gatheredG4863 a councilG4892, and saidG3004, What do we? for this manG444 doeth manyG4183 signsG4592. 48If we let him thusG3779 aloneG863, all men will believeG4100 on him: and the RomansG4514 will comeG2064 and takeG142 awayG142 both our placeG5117 and our nationG1484. 49But a certainG5100 oneG1520 of them, CaiaphasG2533, beingG1510 highG749 priestG749 that yearG1763, saidG3004 unto them, Ye know nothing at all, 50nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that oneG1520 manG444 should dieG599 for the peopleG2992, and that the wholeG3650 nationG1484 perishG622 not. 51NowG1161 this he saidG3004 not of himself: but beingG1510 highG749 priestG749 that yearG1763, he prophesiedG4395 that JesusG2424 should dieG599 for the nationG1484; 52and not for the nationG1484 onlyG3440, but that he might alsoG2532 gatherG4863 togetherG4863 into oneG1520 the childrenG5043 of GodG2316 that are scatteredG1287 abroad. 53SoG2443 from that dayG2250 forth they took counsel that they might putG615 him to deathG615.
54JesusG2424 thereforeG3767 walkedG4043 no more openlyG3954 among the JewsG2453, but departedG565 thence into the countryG5561 near to the wildernessG2048, into a cityG4172 called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciplesG3101. 55NowG1161 the passoverG3957 of the JewsG2453 wasG1510 at hand: and manyG4183 wentG305 up to JerusalemG2414 out of the countryG5561 before the passoverG3957, to purifyG48 themselves. 56They soughtG2212 thereforeG3767 for JesusG2424, and spake oneG240 with another, as they stoodG2476 in the temple, What thinkG1380 ye? That he will not comeG2064 to the feastG1859? 57NowG1161 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the PhariseesG5330 had givenG1325 commandmentG1785, that, if any man knewG1097 whereG4226 he wasG1510, he should show it, that they might take him.
