Parable of the Marriage Feast

1JesusG2424 spokeG3004 to them againG3825 in parablesG3850, sayingG3004, 2“1The kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 2may be comparedG3666 to 3a kingG444G935 whoG3748 4gaveG4160 a 5weddingG1062 feastG1062 for his sonG5207. 3And he 6sentG649 out his slavesG1401 to callG2564 thoseG3588 who had been invitedG2564 to the weddingG1062 feastG1062, and they were unwillingG3756G2309 to comeG2064. 4AgainG3825 he 7sentG649 out otherG243 slavesG1401 sayingG3004, ‘TellG3004 thoseG3588 who have been invitedG2564, “BeholdG2400, I have preparedG2090 my dinnerG712; my oxenG5022 and my fattenedG4619 livestockG4619 are all butcheredG2380 and everythingG3956 is readyG2092; comeG1205 to the weddingG1062 feastG1062.”’ 5But they paidG272 noG272 attentionG272 and wentG565 their wayG565, oneG3739 to his ownG2398 8farmG68, anotherG3739G1161 to his businessG1171, 6and the restG3062 seizedG2902 his slavesG1401 and mistreatedG5195 them and killedG615 them. 7But the kingG935 was enragedG3710, and he sentG3992 his armiesG4753 and destroyedG622 thoseG1565 murderersG5406 and setG1705 their cityG4172 on fireG1705. 8ThenG5119 he saidG3004 to his slavesG1401, ‘The weddingG1062 is readyG2092, but thoseG3588 who were invitedG2564 were not worthyG514. 9GoG4198 thereforeG3767 to 9the mainG1327 highwaysG3598, and as manyG3745 as you findG2147 there, inviteG2564 to the weddingG1062 feastG1062.’ 10ThoseG1565 slavesG1401 wentG1831 out into the streetsG3598 and gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 allG3956 they foundG2147, bothG5037 evilG4190 and goodG18; and the weddingG3567 hallG3567 was filledG4092 with 10dinnerG345 guestsG345.

11“But when the kingG935 cameG1525 in to lookG2300 overG2300 the dinnerG345 guestsG345, he sawG3708 11a manG444 thereG1563 who was not dressedG1746 in weddingG1062 clothesG1742, 12and he saidG3004 to him, ‘12FriendG2083, howG4459 did you comeG1525 in hereG5602 withoutG3361G2192 weddingG1062 clothesG1742?’ And the man was speechlessG5392. 13ThenG5119 the kingG935 saidG3004 to the servantsG1249, ‘BindG1210 him handG5495 and footG4228, and throwG1544 him into 13the outerG1857 darknessG4655; in that placeG1563 thereG1563 will be weepingG2805 and gnashingG1030 of teethG3599.’ 14For manyG4183 are 1415calledG2822, but fewG3641 are 16chosenG1588.”

Tribute to Caesar

1517ThenG5119 the PhariseesG5330 wentG4198 and 18plottedG4824 togetherG4824 howG3704 they might trapG3802 Him 19in what He saidG3056. 16And they sentG649 their disciplesG3101 to Him, along with the 20HerodiansG2265, sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, we knowG3609 that You are truthfulG227 and teachG1321 the wayG3598 of GodG2316 in truthG225, and 21deferG3199 to noG3762 oneG3762; for You are not partialG991G4383 to anyG3762. 17TellG3004 us thenG3767, whatG5101 do You thinkG1380? Is it 22lawfulG1832 to giveG1325 a 23poll-taxG2778 to 24CaesarG2541, orG2228 not?” 18But JesusG2424 perceivedG1097 their 25maliceG4189, and saidG3004, “WhyG5101 are you testingG3985 Me, you hypocritesG5273? 19ShowG1925 Me the 26coinG3546 used for the poll-taxG2778.” And they broughtG4374 Him a 27denariusG1220. 20And He saidG3004 to them, “WhoseG5101 likenessG1504 and inscriptionG1923 is thisG3778?” 21They saidG3004 to Him, “Caesar’sG2541.” ThenG5119 He saidG3004 to them, “28ThenG3767 renderG591 to CaesarG2541 the things that are Caesar’sG2541; and to GodG2316 the things that are God’sG2316.” 22And hearingG191 this, they were amazedG2296, and 29leavingG863 Him, they wentG565 awayG565.

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

2330On that dayG2250 some 31SadduceesG4523 (who sayG3004 32there is noG3361 resurrectionG386) cameG4334 to Jesus and questionedG1905 Him, 24askingG3004, “TeacherG1320, MosesG3475 saidG3004, ‘33IfG1437 a manG5100 diesG599 havingG2192 noG3361 childrenG5043, his brotherG80 as next of kin shall marryG1918 his wifeG1135, and raiseG450 up childrenG5043 for his brotherG80.’ 25NowG1161 there were sevenG2033 brothersG80 with us; and the firstG4413 marriedG1060 and diedG5053, and havingG2192 noG3361 childrenG4690 leftG863 his wifeG1135 to his brotherG80; 26soG3668 alsoG2532 the secondG1208, and the thirdG5154, downG2193 to the seventhG2033. 27LastG5305 of allG3956, the womanG1135 diedG599. 28In the resurrectionG386, thereforeG3767, whoseG5101 wifeG1135 of the sevenG2033 will she be? For they allG3956 hadG2192 married her.”

29But JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to them, “You are mistakenG4105, 34not 35understandingG3609 the ScripturesG1124 norG3366 the powerG1411 of GodG2316. 30For in the resurrectionG386 they neitherG3777 36marryG1060 norG3777 are givenG1061 in marriageG1061, but are likeG5613 angelsG32 in heavenG3772. 31But regardingG4012 the resurrectionG386 of the deadG3498, have you not readG314 whatG3588 was spokenG3004 to you by GodG2316: 32‘37I amG1510 the GodG2316 of AbrahamG11, and the GodG2316 of IsaacG2464, and the GodG2316 of JacobG2384’? He is not the GodG2316 of the deadG3498 but of the livingG2198.” 33When the crowdsG3793 heardG191 this, 38they were astonishedG1605 at His teachingG1322.

3439But when the PhariseesG5330 heardG191 that Jesus had silencedG5392 40the SadduceesG4523, they gatheredG4863 themselves togetherG1909G3588G846. 35OneG1520 of them, 4142a lawyerG3544, askedG1905 Him a question, testingG3985 Him, 36“TeacherG1320, whichG4169 is the greatG3173 commandmentG1785 in the LawG3551?” 37And He saidG5346 to him, “‘43You shall loveG25 the LordG2962 your GodG2316 with allG3650 your heartG2588, and with allG3650 your soulG5590, and with allG3650 your mindG1271.’ 38ThisG3778 is the greatG3173 and 44foremostG4413 commandmentG1785. 39The secondG1208 is likeG3664 it, ‘45You shall loveG25 your neighborG4139 as yourselfG4572.’ 4046On theseG3778 twoG1417 commandmentsG1785 dependG2910 the wholeG3650 LawG3551 and the ProphetsG4396.”

4147NowG1161 while the PhariseesG5330 were gatheredG4863 togetherG4863, JesusG2424 askedG1905 them a questionG1905: 42“WhatG5101 do you thinkG1380 aboutG4012 48the ChristG5547, whoseG5101 sonG5207 is He?” They saidG3004 to Him, “49The son of DavidG1160.” 43He saidG3004 to them, “ThenG3767 howG4459 does DavidG1160 5051in the SpiritG4151 callG2564 Him ‘LordG2962,’ sayingG3004,44‘52The LordG2962 saidG3004 to my LordG2962, “SitG2521 at My rightG1188 handG1188, UntilG2193 I putG5087 Your enemiesG2190 beneathG5270 Your feetG4228”’? 45IfG1487 DavidG1160 thenG3767 callsG2564 Him ‘LordG2962,’ howG4459 is He his sonG5207?” 4653NoG3762 oneG3762 was ableG1410 to answerG611 Him a wordG3056, norG3761 did anyoneG5100 dareG5111 from that dayG2250 on to askG1905 Him 54anotherG3765 questionG1905.
